16th Century Jacobean Manor in the beautiful Howardian Hills of North Yorkshire

Bedrooms 10
Space 9,000 sq. ft.
Property type chateau / country house
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

One of North Yorkshire's finest Country Houses, dating back to 1620

An original Tudor manor built in 1690 with stone mullion windows, thick oak beams and yorkstone flags. Lovingly restored into a family home, where tradition meets mod cons, from Chalon Kitchen to Linn room-to-room surround sound. Sitting in 17 acres. A perfect retreat, Crayke Manor is regarded by many locals as the most beautiful home in the County. Not only the cosiness and solidness of the Manor itself but the way it proudly sits in its 17 acre surroundings. Near enough to the nearby village to stroll to the pub and far away enough to have ones own privacy and tranquility. Guests can have access to the 1 acre garden, 16 acres of grounds, the stables and (for an extra amount) either the self-contained cottage, which sleeps 2 more or the 3-bed cottage next door (which sleeps 6-8 more). Whilst the Manor contains 9 x bedrooms), it can feel just as cosy and welcoming when only a few of the bedrooms (say on 1st floor only) are occupied. There will be a housekeeper on-call who lives in a nearby cottage, who is able to provide any assistance on arrival and during the stay.

Location: On the outskirts of the picturesque village of Crayke with its award winning The Durham Ox pub. Plentiful walks and historical sites, like Ampleforth Abbey, Rievaulx Abbey. Nearby towns like Helmsley and Easingwold. The historic city of York is only 10 miles south of the Manor.

Getting around: Parking for 6+ x cars on-site. Public transport from both Crayke Village and Easingwold town. Trains from London to York - less than 2 x hours, running every 30-minutes approx. We welcome special events, including wedding receptions. Please enquire for more details on bespoke bookings.

Fantastic venue for surprise 50th Birthday celebration!

  • 5 of 5

Came to Crayke Manor for a surprise birthday celebration for my wife and from the second we turned into the drive we were wowwed by the house and grounds.

She loved being “Lady of the Manor” for the weekend, sharing it with our many friends and family who in some cases had come a long way to be with us. It was well worth their trip!

The house was grand and beautifully furnished, whilst also having a wonderful homely feel, especially once the fires were lit.

The house was perfect for our big dinner party on the first night, and then the party that followed on the second - with ample comfort, space and all the facilities you’d ever need.

Was just what I was looking for when arranging the surprise weekend away - definitely hoping to return at some point in the future.

Fantastic long weekend

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend staying in Crayke Manor. The property was exactly what we needed to enjoy the long weekend. Justin was extremely helpful throughout and it was fantastic having someone there to meet the Tesco delivery man before we got there.

About Justin Kent

Justin and Paula lived at the Manor for 17 most memorable years, bringing up their 5 x children in the most amazing home and beautiful surroundings. Now the children are town-bound, J&P have reluctantly moved to York but still wish to share Crayke with those who will undoubtedly love the place as much as they do

Justin Kent purchased this chateau / country house in 1997

Why Justin Kent chose York

It is, quite simply, a very special, unique and beautiful part of the World. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty sums up the surroundings pretty well. And to be able to stay in the most amazing property surrounded by this beauty just completes the picture.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

From the grand arrival, as you drive up the sweeping drive-way, to the sense of cosseted splendour as you discover the nooks and crannies of the Manor; from the sense of history and tradition steeped in the stone walls and oak beams to the luxury and indulgence of the elegant and refined interior spaces and original art.
