About Dan Barker
Hello, from Jack & Beth! We're both from the midwest USA and currently reside in central Ohio. We're recently retired and we spend all the time we can in Costa Rica.
Dan Barker purchased this House in 2005
Why Dan Barker chose Hermosa Bungalows
We've been drawn to the ocean as long as we can remember...I think most people are. Our attraction to the sea began when we purchased and kept a 40 foot cabin cruiser in Fort Myers Beach, Florida back in the early to late 90's, and we've dreamt of retiring on the ocean ever since. Well, we finally got to retire, but our retirement cruiser, the 'Dolphin', met an untimely death in the Atlantic gulfstream, so we decided to look for something built on dirt (or sand), instead. Fewer water leaks. We ended up travelling a bit further south than Florida to find something warmer year-round on the ocean, and thankfully landed in Costa Rica, the 'Little Switzerland', on the central Pacific Ocean in a beachhouse that we love. We know you will, too, and we'd like to share it with everyone. Our goal is for all of our guests to have a great vacation, and we'll certainly do our best to ensure that happens! Give us a call, and Pura Vida (roughly translated as 'Life is Good', from Jack & Beth.

A Little Bit of Paradise
My 3 girlfriends and myself spent 10 days at Casa Barracuda and loved every minute.
Started our mornings on the upper deck watching the ocean and the surfers while drinking our coffees. Everyone from the gardener to Victor, who came by with fresh fish to sell, was
very helpful and pleasant. The location is perfect for many activities and the home is great for relaxing. I would love to go again. Also, want to mention that the owners were extremely helpful before our visit and made us feel very welcome.
Thanks so much for the kind review, Vicki. I really enjoy visiting with my girlfriends, too. Thanks for choosing Casa Barracuda! Beth.
We very much enjoyed our stay in this charming house. It was very clean, had a wonderful pool and the location, just across from the beach, was amazing. I would definitely recommend this house to others visiting the area.
Beautiful outdoor area off the beaten path.
We stayed in Casa Barracuda for a week. We had 4 adults and 2 children. The outdoor area was stunning. The pool was truly the highlight for us as we were able to cool off multiple times a day and my kids basically lived in it when we were home. We could sit on the upper deck and see Macaws landing on the trees across the street, which was such a treat! Iguanas hung out with each day and sunbathed while we swam. The quick walk across the street to check out the waves, sunsets and surfers was perfect. My husband is a surfer and loved being able to run across with his board and catch a few waves in the AM before an excursion and during sunset. Playa Hermosa beach is not a beach that you want your kids to swim in or even adults if you are not a skilled swimmer as the waves can get huge and they are thick and heavy. We mostly walked the beach or watch my husband surf as the sun set (while drinking wine of course). The house itself could use a little work. The stove was very confusing to use as the numbers had been rubbed off and there were no instructions for use. We had to have a technician come help us which meant we could not use the oven for cooking, which was unfortunate as that is why we rent house, so we can cook food that we buy from the store. The BBQ was very rusty and the propane tank looked like it was from WWII (seriously). I made a call and within two days we had a brand new BBQ (one that my dad loved and wanted to get for his home in MT), however they left the old WWII propane tank. It worked so I guess that was good. The cabinets appear like they could fall off the wall so it would be great if that was fixed. The other frustrating part was that the house has NOTHING in it. No laundry soap, no dishwashing detergent, no dish soap, no spices, nothing. I am use to there being a few necessities when I rent from VRBO. The dishes and glasses were all mismatched, which really didn't bother me and there was enough for everyone. The cutlery (knives ) could be replaced as they were not sharp and looked like they were very old. I bet if the owner put a few thousand dollars into those items, the house would be absolutely perfect. Our neighbors were robbed on their first day there, but they had not locked their front door while they were in the back enjoying the pool. We made sure to always lock the front door, especially if we were in the back. The backyard is exposed to the street, so locals could tip each other off.
Perfect for you surfers out there!
This property was perfect! All the space you need, a great pool, and 20 feet from one of the most popular surf spots in Playa Hermosa. We wanted to buy the house before we left! We were there for 7 days but wish we could have stayed for a month! The owners were great to work with! We had people come by and help plan excursions for us (waterfall hikes, in house massages, etc.) and all were wonderful! WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND paying a visit to Casa Barracuda :)
Very good experience
This house is down a remote road on Playa Hermosa, but surrounded by other homes so that it feels secure. The house has everything you need. It could use a good upgrade on the bedding, but not enough of a downside to complain much. We really enjoyed the stay. The best part was Antonio. He helped set up tours, fishing, etc ...
Zip-lining through the forest canopy, horseback riding, atv touring, river rafting, waterfalls, monkeys & crocodile tours
