Overview

About the property

Lovely Cottage Surrounded by Beautiful Countryside.near Shropshire Union Canal

The conversion of an 1830's derelict blacksmith's cottage into "Anvil Cottage" was only completed in June 2015.Many of the original features have been retained including the main "A" frame of the structure. What has been a labour of love to restore the old derelict building, has produced a very cosy yet practical space. There is everything that 2 people could want for a holiday in the north Shropshire countryside.

There is a lovely, comfortable double bedroom with hanging wardrobe and a chest of drawers.

There is a shower/wc just off the main living space.

The good sized kitchen/living area has solid oak patio doors leading out onto a seating area. The doors allow plenty of natural light into the cottage as a whole.

Outside, there is quite a large gravelled area with space for 2 cars and a small lawn. The garden looks out over a meadow that is home to plenty of wildlife for all you nature lovers.

About 200 yards away is the Shropshire Union canal which is great for walking and cycling along, a further 200 yards takes you into Wales.

Lower Blackoe farm, where the owners of Anvil Cottage live, is just up the lane in case you ever need any help.We have a 5 caravan cl Caravan Club site on the opposite side of he road, which is useful if you want to share a holiday with caravanning friends or relatives. We also have a vintage caravan called Roberta for rental on the adjoining meadow that provides additional accommodation for 2 people.

The cottage is in a farming community so there is always things to see depending on the seasons.

About a 10 mins drive from the cottage is the Fenns and Whixall mosses that is a National Nature Reserve.About 10 mins drive away in the opposite direction is Brown Moss nature reserve that is very popular with bird watchers.

All in all if you're looking for a taste of the countryside you can't go far wrong in booking a holiday or short break to Anvil Cottage or Roberta for that retro get away!

There is WIFI at the cottage and in Roberta.

THE WASHING MACHINE/ TUMBLE DRYER,SHOULD YOU WISH TO USE THESE FACILITIES,ARE LOCATED IN AN OUT BUILDING AND NOT IN THE COTTAGE.

Lovely country cottage.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage and location were just perfect for two weary aussies in much need of peace and quiet plus a good rest in a beautiful part of the world. Hosts Celia and Dave had the place ready for us after a 24 hour journey. Great views of the countryside, close to the canal and some good pubs nearby. Thank you so much.

Pleasant rural retreat

  • 4 of 5

We spent a very pleasant week in this well designed and comfortable cottage. It is a wonderful place to stay if you need to get away from it all and reconnect with nature! The local walks are delightful (look out for the Whixall walks pamphlet from the local museum in Whitchurch) and Whitchurch is a quirky town with everything you might need.

We would definitely go back!
