Michigan holds a special place in the hearts of my family. My great-grandmother grew up in Michigan and we've spent many summers camping throughout the state. We came across this area in 2006 and knew immediately this was where our cottage should be. We're delighted to be able to share it with others who know how special western Michigan really is.
Once we decided to buy in this area, we looked at dozens of properties. But when I looked down the sandy lane that leads to the Owls' Nest, I knew this was our cottage. More than anything, this wooded setting so near Lake Michigan, was the deciding factor!
Such a wonderful long weekend. The weather was great. The fireplace was so welcoming at night.
Families are held together by special memories - the "Owls' Nest" will always be one of our families treasured memories.
Skipping stones on the beach, studying the moon through our sons telescope, hard fought games of beanbags in the driveway, my first bike ride in 20 years, countless card games on the magical porch.
Thank you for all of these -
PS the WiFi enabled our son who is studying for the US Medical Licensing Exam to join us! Thank you so much!!
We stayed the first week in June (right before the busy summer season) with our two kids (who are both under two ) plus our dog. The house met all of our needs for a 4 night stay in Michigan. We spent a couple days at Oval Beach which is only a 10-15 min drive.
Pros: Very clean, all necessities provided to cook/grill/head to the beach, serene setting in the woods, great screened in porch, close to park/playground, accepts well behaved pets.
Cons: Beach within walking distance is clean but rocky, nice for a walk but not conducive for a full day with kids; restaraunts/shopping is not within walking distance (10 min drive).
Overall, we were happy with our stay and would recommend the Owls Nest if you are looking for a quiet, off the path place to rest and relax.
We had a very relaxing and enjoyable vacation at the Owl's Nest in October. The home is very clean and well-appointed. Located away from the hectic activity of nearby towns but close enough to enjoy shopping, restaurants, and the lake. Our dog enjoyed the walks in the woods and loved seeing all the squirrels. We even saw some deer the night before we left. Hope to return next year.
We love the days we spend at the Owl's Nest. It is quiet and relaxing. We take long walks on the beach every day which is a good thing since we seem to end up having cherry pie at Crane's every evening. The owner is the best! Thanks for another great getaway.
Very homey, we felt comfortable. Spent a long weekend with my adult daughter, the men in our lives and two (2) well trained and well behaved dogs.
We all enjoyed the screened in porch. You are surrounded by the woods. It was quiet and peaceful.
We breakfasted at Ida Reds and had dinner at Salt of the Earth. Visited Holland's Farmer's Market.
Visited a number of wineries. It was a picture perfect fall weekend.
The cottage has everything that you need - we made breakfasts and dinners there.
I would recommend staying there. The location was wonderful.
This is a wonderful place to stay while visiting Saugatuck & Douglas! It is quiet & peaceful & close to the beach and just a short drive to both towns. We have visited this area many times over 20 years & this is the best place we have stayed & will return!!!!
The furniture is COMFORTABLE!!! The kitchens a good size with a gas stove & a dishwasher. The cottage is well equipped and Clean!
We travel with a dog, a well mannered Rhodesian Ridgeback, it was a nice space for him too!
Our favorite restaurant is Salt of the Earth in Fennville. We love Kubiak & Petter Galleries in Douglas and Good Goods in Saugatuck.
It was our first time at The Owls' Nest and we couldn't have had a better time. We wanted a place "away from it all". The house is tucked away from the road such that you are surround by nature. Our favorite spot in the house was the screened-in porch.
The lake is just across the street in the neighborhood park. Great family spot.
The reservation process was very quick. The owner responded to my questions I would recommend this vacation spot for a relaxing get-away.
Location just off I-196 & M-89 means the Owls' Nest is only a two-hour drive from Chicago.
More to do than a week allows! Needless to say, the beach and Lake Michigan are the big draws but there's so much more! Orchards, boutique shops, fine dining, hiking, canoeing, fishing, live performances...and then there's the peace and quiet of the woods. Check our reviews and you'll find that everyone gravitates to the screened porch. It's a great place for coffee in the morning, a book (read 'nap') in the afternoon or a glass of wine at dusk. You'll find really great restaurants that focus on fresh, local produce supplied by many of the area's organic farmers/producers. Vineyards and fruit plantations provide the opportunity to pick your own or purchase a peck! Not fancy or showy, but homey & cozy. The Owls' Nest is truly our home away from home and we hope you're as comfortable there as we are - enjoy!
