Beautiful peaceful setting.
The 3-bedroom property was ideal for our family group; consisting of two double rooms and a bedroom with 2 sets of bunk beds for the children. The villa was furnished to a comfortable homely standard with enough seats and dining chairs for our group. The kitchen area is small but functionally good for two persons who are used to working together. The outside area has a patio with chairs and a table and the owners showed us how to use the canopy for extra shade when needed. There is also a lawned area.
The site itself is peaceful and feels secure with the gated access. Although the site is rural, pretty towns and villages are within easy reach by car where one can find plenty of shops and restaurants. The town of Beziers is full of atmosphere with its bull-ring and many restaurants around the busy square. For lovers of art in all its forms a visit to Pezenas is a must; its cobble streets are alive with shops and boutiques selling beautiful ceramics, paintings, clothes and textiles.
A beautiful and comfortable stay in a pretty area
We arrived at the villa in the early hours of the morning; a lot later than expected. But Cath and Mat were not phased by this and helped us to gain access to the gated residence.
The villa was clean and well kept. There was all the mod cons you'd want to have on holiday and the Wii was definitely a hit with our children. The air con and fans were definitely needed as the weather was really hot when we were there.
The complex itself was very clean and it felt very safe. Our children played with other children in and around the villas. We spent a few days at the pool. The pool area was very clean and you were always able to get beds. No one rushed down to 'claim' a bed- a refreshing change! As well as this, there was a large mix of nationalities staying on the complex so it didn't feel like your usual hotel in the sun.
It is a really peaceful location- and we loved it for this. We often spent nights sat outside on the patio. It wouldn't suit people who wanted a livelier holiday. You would also need transport as the complex is a few minutes drive away from local villages and towns.
It was a really good base for exploring the surrounding areas. Cath and Mat recommended a lot of these places for us to visit and supplied the villa with lots of information booklets. We particularly loved Pezenas for its winding streets and gifts shops. Also Cabanes de Fleury was a hit with a beautiful harbour, a gorgeous beach (a mat went down the sand so you didn't burn your feet and the lifeguards were very proactive) and my husband assures me he had the best seafood in one of the restaurants (I think there were only three). The only negative was the mosquitos in Fleury as they were out in force there! We also enjoyed shopping and eating in Beziers and visited Pont du Diable- worth visiting for the beautiful inland beach (though you will need surf shoes / flip flops for the stones). One of the highlights of our holiday was visiting Montpelier Zoo. The actual zoo is free and we spent a full day roaming around the long walks, looking at the animals. As it was free to enter, we didn't object to paying the 19 Euros for a family of four to enter the Amazonian part- well worth it!
Thank you Cath and Mat, it really did feel like a home for the two weeks we spent there. We can understand why you love it so much.
The Languedoc is one of the most fascinating areas of Europe, it has a wonderful climate, rich wildlife, a spectacular coast, chic resorts, beautiful scenery and astonishing history. It is a perfect French holiday destination, with long sunny days, Mediterranean beaches, wonderful food and wine, mountains and national parks, ancient towns and villages, Greek and Roman architecture, and thousands of miles of walks and bike rides.
The Villa is situated just 15 minutes from the Mediterranean coastline. Languedoc Rousillon has some of the best beaches in the South of France, many of which have been awarded the Blue Flag for cleanliness.
Espiguette stretches for km after km of fine sandy dunes and is mostly deserted with endless horizons.
Cap D Agde has six beaches ranging from small coves (Plage de la Conque and La Plagette) through to long stretches of sand 14 kms (Plage de Richelieu and Plage de Rochelongue). Plage de Roquille is covered with sea shells while Plage du Mole is very safe for small children, having a wide flat area of shallow water. There are magnificent views to Sete in one direction and the Pyrenees in the other.
Serignan is popular and more remote and wild than others with a grassy sand bank.
Vias is situated in between Cap d Agde and Valras Plage, Vias Plage beach, South France, has some of the warmest water in the Languedoc. This popular Languedoc beach is sheltered, with golden sands.
Valras Plage is ideal for families and has plenty of acitivities with lots of restaurants, boutiques and ice cream stalls. During the summer there is also a childrens adventure park and fairground rides just by the harbour.
History & Culture
With festivals and markets throughout the year, Languedoc is a lively and colourful place to holiday. The beautiful town of Pezenas is 15 minutes from the villa with its winding medieval streets. The region has many castles, abbeys and historic villages to explore not forgetting Carcassonne.
Set high up on a hill, Carcassonne's ancient walled city is Disneyworld-perfect. This fairytale collection of drawbridges, towers and atmospheric cobbled streets was reputedly the inspiration for Walt Disney's The Sleeping Beauty. Its medieval core, the cité, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1997.
The Canul du Midi has kilometres of cycling and walking tracks and 30 minutes inland is the stunning scenery of the Haut-Langudedoc park with its fabulous Gorges d heric. The national park is a must and provides activities such as inland swimming, cannoing and hiking.
The Cathar castles, Nimes, Avignon, Barcelona are all within reach for a day trip.
This vast wine-producing area, which stretches from Nîmes to the Pyrénées, has an ideal climate for growing grape vines and has stunningly diverse wines: fruity or strong reds, crisp or more complex whites, magnificent natural sweet wines, well-known sparkling wines and intense rosés.
Le Rose de Bessan is situated in the local village. In addition to Wine they produce olive oil, olive tapanade, honey and shortbread. Visitors are welcome to taste the the produce before they buy. Wine can be purchased for around 1 Euro a litre.
