Lovely property, nicely presented in pretty gardens Very much a summer hols as was freezing cold.

  • 3 of 5

The property is as photographed, very quirky and unique with lots of lovely touches. The gardens are very nice with birds and peacocks and plenty of wildlife and lovely garden decorative pieces. Well worth a wander about and very idyllic. The property has limited heating and not suitable for leaving on overnight so we woke up freezing every day. The bed is not kingsized as advertised and also there is absolutely no internet, not as advertised. The welcome pack encourages you to do without and that is fine unless you have read the description on here and planned streaming/Skype etc. The shower overflowed after a minute's use and whilst the owner was helpful and available you go away to places like this to avoid pouring drain cleaner down plugholes repeatedly and reporting back to owners and having your short break interrupted by domestic plumbing issues. This is why we didn't go back with the news there is no plate in the strange oven so we couldn't cook our meal as planned and just had sandwiches instead. In the summer, this is probably a perfect stay - lovely gardens, wildlife and waking up cosy, but for a New Year's break we couldn't recommend it. The electric blankets are a great idea (and much needed) and there has been considerable thought and attention in making it very picturesque and interesting, but ultimately, we couldn't wait to get home to warm up.

Owner's Response: 10 points for 5 stars: 1) Property is as presented. 2) Property is unique. 3) Property has lovely touches. 4) Garden very much appreciated 5) The heating if used properly will keep you very warm there are heaters in every room which can be turned up and down and can be left on all night, halogen heaters for a little extra warmth. IGNORANCE 6) Internet can be obtained nearer to the house. Why the need for computers while on holiday? ADVICE STAY AT HOME ITS CHEAPER) 7) Shower has not been a problem until this visit, did clean and left spray which had not been used again .APOLOGIES 8) Did not respond back to owner who checked a couple of times and was told everything was fine. 9) The microwave oven does have a plate yet the convector oven does not as it does not need a plate. IGNORANCE 10) We always say on arrival if not to your liking please speak to us!

Lovely Middle Earth

  • 5 of 5

The Middle Earth cabin is situated in a beautiful setting in the Somerset countryside with wildlife all around including Peacocks, doves, owls, just in the garden alone. John is a very welcoming friendly owner with great knowledge of the area and makes you feel instantly at home.

I have already booked a further stay for my son and his wife for May next year with us looking to return later on in 2017. A+ Highly recommended option for a long or short break.

Quiet, quirky getaway

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed staying in this whimsical cottage in a private area of a large garden. It was a quiet and peaceful homebase for exploring the Somerset area. The setup was fine for self catering. Lovely with quirky, unique architecture. Definitely a holiday spot we will remember and visit again! (Could pose some challenges for people with accessibility or mobility issues.)

A secret garden with added bonus of peacocks chickens and white doves around and of course the very friendly ginger cat. All very relaxing.
