About Alison Morel
I have lived in Selcuk for many years 30 years, in fact. Originally I came backpacking and stayed. How lucky I am to live in such a beautiful part of the world. Selcuk appealed to me very much due to the wonderful history and culture, the beautiful scenery, the friendly people. The town is small enough to be very comfortable and large enough to provide all that is needed for a good life.
Alison Morel purchased this House in 2015
Why Alison Morel chose Selçuk
Sunset House is spacious and light and airy, the wonderful terrace makes this property fantastic in summer and winter, being fully air conditioned makes it even more comfortable.
What makes this House unique
The views from the spacious terrace of the Byzantine castle, over town and as far as the sea makes this property stand out from many others.

Very quiet, clean and confortable apartment
We had a really wonderfull stay in Selcuk in Sunset House. This apartment is clean, confortable and well furnished. We didn't had any car and it was really convenient to walk downtown or take the train or dolmus to visit around. Moreover, we really enjoyed the terrace with a wonderfull view on St John's basilique. Alison has been very helpfull during our stay and gave us good advices. So, to summarize, we had wonderfull vacations :-)
Thank you so much for taking the trouble to write a fantastic review for Sunset House, I'm so glad you enjoyed the house and Selcuk.
Was a pleasure to have you all to stay and hope you may make it back some day, All the best, Alison
A wonderful place to choose for your holiday
This is a beautifully furnished property - every little detail has been carefully thought through. The villa was very clean and well-maintained - the owner obviously takes pride in looking after it. A big plus is the balcony with amazing views over Selcuk and out towards Ephesus and the Mediterranean.
Alison provides a great personal service, offering advice on the best places to see and eat at, and arranging trips if needed.
Thank you for your kind and amazing review. I am so happy that you enjoyed your stay at Sunset House and that you were comfortable and happy.
Hope very much you will come back soon to visit the wonderful sites that you missed this time.
Thank you again, Alison
Sunset in Selcuk
Sunset in Selcuk
Selcuk a short hop on the train from Izmir, a traditional Turkish farming town with friendly people, plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants, the town has bags of history and character, old stone houses, a Roman aqueduct with resident Storks nesting on the columns, a 14th Century Mosque and Byzantine Church, the surrounding rolling hills are dotted with ruins and the beach is only eight kilometers away and all that is only the warm up act for the main attraction of Ephesus, as of my visit granted World Heritage Status.
Sunset house is the perfect place to stay-with so many things to keep you busy during the day what better than to come home-and it really does feel like home and sit out on the larger terrace, pour a drink and watch the sun set behind the fortress, BBQ or dinner with a cool summer breeze and spectacular view, a peaceful neighborhood with swallows darting about the rooftops, local shops selling all you need from fresh bread to beer, the house has everything you will need including the little details that make a difference such as coffee machine and good selection of glasses.
Alison the host will charm you as much as Selcuk, warm and friendly and attentive, she knows the area well and understand her guests and how to look after them.
You may only come to visit Ephesus but Selcuk will charm you and you will want to stay much longer.
Thank you so much John for your amazing and informative review, very much appreciated.
I hope that sometime soon you will be able to make it back to Selcuk to enjoy Sunset House again and also the wonderful sites in the area that you did not have the chance to see this time.
All the best and thank you again,
Coast/Beach from Sunset House
The nearest beach is Pamucak, very quiet and 14km of beautiful golden sand, by private car 10 mins from Selcuk, by local mini bus the same. Further beaches can be reached in Kusadasi and many bays can be reached within 20-30 mins drive.
Special interest holidays
Many opportunities for anyone particularly interested in archaeology, painting and magnificent hiking.
How to get there
Izmir, Adnan Menderes international airport is approx 50 mins by car. Transfers can be arranged at an additional charge, Ferries to Samos, Greek island, leave daily from Kusadasi. A good day trip to be able to enjoy the different cultures of 2 close neighbours. Car hire not essential, but useful for at least some of time if planning to visit some of other locations around selcuk. This can be arranged locally at very reasonable rates, enquire when booking.
Selcuk centre is only 5 mins walk into town along the old roman aqueduct. The pretty Greek village Sirince is about 8km from Selcuk. Most of the attractions in Selcuk can be reached on foot or by local buses.
Selcuk has all the necessary shopping facilities, banks, restaurants etc, and there are some very good restaurants in town and some of the surrounding villages. Every Saturday there is a beautiful local market selling fresh produce and anything that you could need during your stay.
Guests will be met by Alison, the property manager, who is fluent in both English and Turkish, she will be available throughout your stay to help with any queries, provide information and if needed to make travel/trip arrangements. The main attractions are the historical sites locally at Ephesus, St John's basilica, Virgin Mary's House, Seven sleepers and Selcuk museum all only a few minutes drive away. It is also an excellent base to visit some of the other major attractions in this part of Turkey including Aphrodisias, Miletus, Metropolis, Priene and Didyma. All within 1-2 hours drive. Further afield, to Pamukkale and Heirapolis are well worth visiting, or boat trips from Fetiye or Marmaris can be arranged.
