I live in the Portland area & love heading to the coast for a weekend to relax. This home provides a quiet peaceful setting to do just that.
Char purchased this house in 2006
I absolutely LOVE this area- Astoria is amazing & definitely speaks to my soul.
This home provides a lovely setting, warm furnishings & a peaceful energy.
By the way we have decided not to give you your house back, just kidding, we're in love with Astoria and your cute home. We are just going to have to book another week. We went to Seaside and played on the beach today. It was wonderful. Love Fred Meyer, we don't have those in California. Thanks for the great vacation!
This is a nice house in a quiet interesting neighborhood in eastern part of Astoriia. It is exactly as described. The furniture is comfortable, the beds were fine, it was clean and the kitchen large and well equipped. The stairs were not a problem for me (75 years old) or my grand daughter (3 years old). The best feature of the house is that it is just off the Columbia riverfront trail. The trail is a former rail line along the Columbia River. From the house it is a walk of about two miles around the beautiful Alderbrook lagoon, about 1.3 miles to the Rogue brew pub on a pier in the river or about 2.5 miles to the must see Columbia River Museum and the many fine restaurants of Astoria. Char, the owner is responsive and pleasant to deal with. We had a very good three days and would return.
The house is conveniently located, and has all of the amenities needed. The floors were not clean, there were spider webs that we had to clean off of the back porch, and the sheets were very rough. The bathrooms were filled with old bottles of shampoo and soap, even a used razor in the tub. Lots of leftover bottles of food in the refrigerator. Needs a good cleaning and some new sheets!
We are from Louisiana and our son is working in the area and had to have shoulder surgery. We booked this home because we thought it would be comfortable him. It was recommended that he sleep the first two days in a comfortable chair. He was very comfortable. The home is dated but was clean and charming. We cozied up at night in the upstairs sitting room to watch Netflix on my laptop. It was our nightly ritual and I will miss it. We were able to visit Astoria and eat in many of the restaurants. Make sure to try Bowpickers and Bouy's (you can see sea lions through the floor). I recommend the rock fish and the blue and black beer. We also found a seafood market behind the Astoria Riverwalk Inn that had a great lobster melt. Tough I don't think it was actually lobster. We also ate a great burger at Portway where people were Shanghaied back in the day. We had great pizza delivered from Fultano’s. Had a hanger steak at Fort George Pub and stopped in one afternoon in the upstairs restaurant for a beer and breadsticks. We wanted to try Rogue’s but didn’t have time. We really enjoyed the Sunday market and riding the trolley we learned a lot about the history of the city. It is very rich in history. There are two places to shop for groceries a Safeway is very close, ask for a club card to get the best prices. We also drove a few miles to Fred Myers who has everything you could possibly need. There is a great shopping area in Seaside. We also visited Shallon winery a one man operation.
We loved the area this home was in. It was quiet and well equipped (tons of body wash). House was clean, living room was comfy. We would stay here again. We were sad we were only there for one night. We liked how it was tucked into the trees and with the bamboo in the back.
If stairs are difficult for you, this may not be a good place for you as all bedrooms are upstairs. A handrail that goes all the way to the top of the stairs inside the house would make the stairs more safe for everyone, especially with such narrow treads.
Also, can be a little difficult to have all towels washed and in dryer before you leave. It would be nice if the request to just have them put in the washer and run it. :D
But we were extremely happy with our stay.
House was clean and had everything we needed for our stay. We would stay again next year.
Roomy and very nicely decorated with a lot of artistic attention to detail. The living room has comfy sofas with natural light from the windows. We enjoyed putting together a jigsaw puzzle in the evenings; a lot of games, puzzles, books, movies, etc. are available to choose from. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood with just a short drive to downtown Astoria and many nearby attractions. We enjoyed our short stay.
