Bridge Street Cottage Grade II listed in centre of Bideford

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Two bedrooms with small private courtyard. Lots of original features.

Bridge Street Cottage is a quaint 300 year old cottage, in the heart of Bideford. It has a quirky lounge/dining room which leads into the well stocked kitchen with microwave, fridge and gas cooker. Check out Facebook page on Bridge Street Cottage.

There is a door leading into a small private courtyard. Perfect for your morning cuppa or coffee. In the evening you could enjoy a glass of wine.

Upstairs is reached by the spiral staircase where you will find large high ceilings in the hallway which houses a large double wardrobe. High ceilings and lathe walls are also a feature in both of the two main bedrooms, one with main double bedroom and the smaller bunk bedroom with double wardrobe.

Parking is free from 6pm until 8am in the conveniently located car park across the road. Bideford main High Street, shops and banks can be reached in just a few short minutes. Also close by are many bus routes to take you to Torrington, Barnstaple, Braunton, Saunton, Woolacombe. There is also a regular service to Westward Ho! if you didn't feel like driving.

There are numerous cafes, pubs and eateries, again within walking distance. Victoria Park is close by with lovely grounds and playground for young children. This is where you will find the Burton Art Gallery and also the Cafe du Parc which serves delicious coffee and cakes.

Hockings ice cream van is at the entrance to the park from March till end of October. Not to be missed the best ice cream anywhere. They have been making ice cream since the 1930's in Appledore village, another place you might like to visit.

Close by in Northam there is a swimming pool, useful for wet days with the children. There is a gym and sauna in the leisure centre, it can be used on a daily basis on a pay as you go basis.

About Mrs McIndoe

I have been visiting North Devon and specifically Bideford and Appledore for thirty years and have finally been able to move here permanently. I love this area because of all the facilities it has to offer. Especially the beaches and water activities. Contact me directly on

Mrs McIndoe purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Mrs McIndoe chose North Devon

Bridge Cottage has a certain charm about it and most people fall under its spell as soon as they walk in. We have listened to our guests and fitted a new carpet throughout, which was on the agenda. Also a mirror downstairs, as suggested by one of our guests. It has many original features and this makes it unique. It is also in an easily accessible area near to the library, church, shops and local transport.

What makes this cottage unique

Original beams, very high ceilings, quirky spiral staircase and central location opposite car park. You can buy a Tourist Parking Permit from Burton Art Gallery for £20.00 and that will allow you access to many of the Torridge District Council's car parks. Including Westward Ho! and Appledore. This is what I would suggest as it is a very convenient car park.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Compact, comfortable, and a good location.

A great little cottage in the centre of Bideford. Four of us stayed for a weekend break and really enjoyed it. It's not big but it has everything you need. All of the beds were clean and comfortable.

The spiral staircase is pretty tight, so if you turn up with big cases (we didn't) you'll probably have trouble getting them up the stairs. We would happily stay again.

Cozy characterful cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is lovely, and it was a nice touch to have milk and tea bags already stocked in the kitchen for the first post-travel cuppa 😄. The rooms are small but the beds are comfy, the bath is nice and deep, and the stairs are quite a novelty! Only downside to our stay was a rather noisy neighbour - but I suppose that can happen wherever you go!

Fantastic location. Place has everything a young couple wanted for a break. As mentioned before by a few others stairs can be difficult however we found them fine. Enjoyed our stay and definitely plan to return

What a wonderfully quaint cottage. The location is also fantastic to visit Bideford town centre and surrounding areas.

Upon arrival we walked in to Christmas decorations and a bottle of mulled wine amongst some other treats.

The cottage itself is pretty, warm and comfortable.

To anyone that hasn't written a truly positive review here, all I can say to you is Bah Humbug.

Quaint little cottage, ideal location for the town

  • 4 of 5

Were looking to buy a house in the area so stayed here - parking in the whole of Bideford is a major issue although all okay once used to the timings etc - in truth we stayed during a protracted cold snap which tested the heating in the house - however this did not detract from a very comfortable stay
