Our village Pouançay

Just a quick walk from La Bellevue is the reputed restaurant Trésor Belge open for lunch, dinner and ‘happy hour’ between 5pm & 7pm (closed Mon & Tue). A scenic walk of 9km & 12km is mapped and starts in front of the Mairie passing by vines and troglodyte caves, while a leisurely potter to the Table d’Orientation, particularly spectacular at sun-set, gives an impressive 360° view of the surrounding region, highlighting châteaux and points of interest.

St Leger de Montbrillais

(2kms) neighbouring Pouançay is a great little village for pick-up’s, St Leger has a post office, hairdresser, boulangerie (closed Wed), and a highly reputed boucher much favored by ourselves, we highly recommend trying the rillettes d’oie, and be prepared to queue on a Sunday morning!

Montreuil-Bellay

(8kms) boasts a magnificent château whose impressive walls circle the town. Host to a weekly market and monthly Brocante (flea-market) there are a variety of brasseries and restaurants to choose from. Hire a kayak/canoe and spend time on the river, Le Thouet. About Sarah-Jane Beaumont

A visit in 2006 didn't see me return. Now, Mme Beaumont, wife to Gérald, a bilingual French wine professional and Mum to our two gorgeous children, Augustin (10yrs) and Constance (8yrs). Making our family '5' is Biscotte, our friendly rescue cat who you'll find sleeping amongst the flower beds.

We warmly welcome you to our family home where we hope you will enjoy the peace of our village setting, the regions rich history and attractions, local cuisine and diverse wines.

In July 2011, we opened our bar à vin/bistrot, Bistrot Les Tontons, in the heart of Saumur. Five wonderful years past before pastures new beckoned. Today Gérald is Director d’Exploitation for two wineries; Château de Beauregard in Le Puy Notre-Dame and Château des Noyers, close to Martigné-Briand.

Guestbook comments from the manager

From the photos and description, we thought that this cottage would be good. But, it was great ! ! The location is a little out of the way, but the positives from that are that it is central to numerous other towns and attractions, it is quiet, and the village is charming. Sarah and Gerald were perfect hosts, offering anything if needed. Try to visit the hosts' business in Samur if possible, to see Gerald in his element. We enjoyed our stay so much; it was worth more than a 5 ! !

POUANCAY : Within our pretty village, and a convenient moments walk from La Bellevue, is the reputed seafood restaurant, the Trésor Belge. The village has a post office, baker (closed Wednesday and ask for the baguette named 'la tradition'). A highly reputed butcher much favoured by ourselves (try the rillettes d’oie and be prepared to queue on a Sunday morning!), alongside a little tabac (bar).

An abundance of flower blooms throughout spring to the early months of winter, Montreuil-Bellay is a pretty town to discover. Host to a weekly market and a monthly Brocante (flea-market) there are a number of interesting restaurants to discover, the Château to visit and a lovely picnic area, shaded by trees, set along the edge of the river Thouet which flows through the town… while eating your baguettes the ducks will pay you a visit hoping for some crumbs!

Charming

  • 5 of 5

We keep going back to this beautiful gité. It is extremely well maintained and scrupulously clean. It's a very good gité if you are self catering as the kitchen is very well equipped. The owners are an Anglo/French family with two children and a cat on site. Sarah-Jane is very knowledgeable about the local area and beyond and is very friendly and helpful. The gité is situated in a peaceful village surrounded by vineyards. It's a great place for walking, cycling and exploring the beautiful Loire Valley. Highly recommended.

Fantastic gite in the beautiful Loire valley

  • 5 of 5

We had a very memorable stay in Annies. The gite is perfect and has everything you might need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is well kitted out and the rest of the gite is very comfortable. It is a very charming place and is just lovely to return to in the afternoon to catch the last of the sunshine in the beautiful courtyard. Sarah-Jane and Gerald were wonderful hosts and are a wealth of information on the local area, which they clearly love. There is so much to do and see in the area, it really is a special place. We hope to return soon!

Wonderful accommodation in delightful spot

  • 5 of 5

This is our third stay at this delightful gite and we are already looking forward to our next visit, hopefully next year.

The gite itself is immaculate and very well equipped with a charming French atmosphere. There is a private outdoor area with beautiful flowers. It is situated in a small hamlet surrounded by fields and has vineyards very close by. Sarah-Jane and Gerald are extremely helpful and friendly and not in any way intrusive.

The gite is close to the main road which takes you to the nearest town with great ease. It really is a wonderful experience to spend the week here.

A hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Annie's House and it did not disappoint. Once again we were made very welcome by Sarah-Jane and indeed the whole family. The house and gardens are immaculate and testimony to Sarah-Jane's attention to detail. We had a wonderful bottle of red wine, chosen for us by Gerald, and a very tasty platter of charcuterie and cheeses on our first evening, a great indulgent way to start our holiday. This was supposed to be followed by Tarte au Citron, but we were too full and so postponed the enjoyment of this to the next day. Once again these did not disappoint.

We enjoyed time relaxing in the garden making use of the outdoor furniture and the peace of the pretty quintessentially French village. We also set off exploring the environs on foot and made use of the small rural unmade roads, visiting Berrie and the disused windmill which is a view point. This holiday saw visits to the chateau at Breze, an amazing partly subterranean world, the tapestry of the apocalypse at Angers, which is breath taking for anyone who sews, and the gardens at Villandry. I would strongly recommend all of these.

We once again visited the Bistrot les Tontons, run by Gerald, and had a lovely meal in an intimate environment with locally sourced high quality food. You need to arrive feeling hungry and will leave feeling soporific and replete.

We will certainly be visiting for a third time and hopefully many more. This is really our home from home in France.

Thank you.

Delightful stay in Annie's House, excellent accommodation and wonderful owners.ab

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to explore some of the Loire area and were attracted by the photos and information to book a week at Annie's House. The response and information from Sarah- Jane Beaumont was excellent with information about the cottage and the surrounding area, clear directions as how to find the accommodation and a willingness to answer any questions that we might want to ask about our booking. We were warmly welcomed by Sarah- Jane who spent time showing us around the property and explaining all the details of the contents. The cottage is beautifully decorated and organised and had everything that we needed for a comfortable stay, including very good equipment for cooking our own meals. The whole place was immaculate, clean and tidy. There is a pleasant sitting room with comfy sofa and chair and enough DVDs to last more than a week, a well organised kitchen and dining area and an excellent bathroom, all on the ground floor. The WiFi was good too with a strong signal. Upstairs there is a spacious bedroom. Outside there is a lovely, sunny area for sitting which is separated from the owners' garden. In this way, we had the best of two worlds with access to the owner, should we need help, but privacy for all the time we needed.

The location was good too. Set in the country the village has no shop but it is only a few minutes drive to the next village where, on a Sunday, we found a good bakers and butchers open. Not far away is Montreuil-Bellay, an attractive town where there is a super- market, a good food market on a Tuesday, interesting chateau and a few restaurants. From the cottage we were able to visit some of the interesting places in the Loire. One high-light was a visit to Saumur which is a pleasant town with an excellent market on a Saturday. The chateau there is being renovated so that, unfortunately, was closed. A high-light of the whole time, however, was lunch at the Bistrot, Les Tonton, owned by Sarah-Jane and her husband, Gerald. In true bistrot style, the food was fresh, well cooked and beautifully presented. We were so well looked after by Gerald and his team.

I was sad to leave as we had enjoyed our stay and our meeting with the whole family.

Peaceful and relaxing time

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in this lovely gite before it remains on our list of favourite places to stay in the Loire. The gite is very well equipped, clean and tidy and in a lovely peaceful location surrounded by fields and vines, but not too far from anything that the Loire has to offer in terms of attractions. The owners Sara-Jane and Gerald are wonderful hosts and they can be relied on to point you in the right direction if you are not familiar with the area and need some ideas on what do or where to eat. Highly recommended.
