Space 2,152 sq. ft.

Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

1 double and 2 twin bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, 1 shower room. Sleeps max 6

Monte das Pedras is a privately owned house situated in one acre of south facing hillside with panoramic views of the valley and village of Gorjöes beyond. The tranquil natural rock garden setting makes for an ideal 'get away from it all' holiday. Whilst secluded, it is ideally situated between the towns of São Bras de Alportel (a typical Algarvian town) and the well-known market town of Loulé. Good shopping and restaurants are all within 6 kilometres.

Extensive terracotta terraces surround the house and 9X6.5m private pool (which can be heated) with sun-loungers, furniture and barbecue for al fresco dining. A roof terrace is ideal for sun-tanning or a cool evening place to view the Mediterranean sunsets and night sky. Shade is provided by covered terraces.

The house is furnished in local pine with comfortable settees, an open fire for cooler evenings and air conditioning for when hot. French windows open onto the breakfast terrace with extensive views south across the olive groves.

Wifi is available and there is TV., but main English channels are no longer available. There is Sky News and CNN and some Film channels.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A little piece of paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Monte Das Pedras between 23rd August and 3rd September 2017 - 2 adults and 2 children (aged 9 and 11) as we know the family who own it. This place is truly stunning - peaceful, incredible vistas from numerous terraces including the terrace around the really good sized swimming pool which we made A LOT of use of in tempertures of 30+ degrees!. It was lovely having such a lovely facility all to ourselves - the new poolside loungers also had a lot of use! There was an abundance of wildlife from the little (bug eating!) lizards to swallows that swooped down over our head in the pool - this caused much hilarity and fascination!

The villa is well equipped, is a real home from home. There were lots of helpful hints in the visitor information in the villa about places to eat, shop and visit as well as information about the villa itself. The agent on the ground was really helpful. We had a small problem with one of the toilets so we phoned him and it was fixed within a few hours - you can't ask for more than that really.

Whilst it is peaceful and 'away from it all', shops and markets are not far away. The new Continente Supermaket in Loule is easily accessible and has more than everything you could ever need! We would recommend a Portuguese phrase book/phone app - almost everyone we met spoke some English but learning how to say thank you in Portuguese is much appreciated!

Faro airport is approx. 30 minutes drive away. Car hire from the airport is essential but Air Autos at Faro airport were fantastic! The villa is accessed in part, by an unmade road and a steep drive. But don't let that put you off - after driving it a few times we soon got used to it and enjoyed the adventure!

We really felt we could relaxed here and enjoy this part of Portugal. We can't wait to return. Thank you Angela and the family for sharing you home with us!

Beautiful villa with fantastic pool for a fully self contained getaway

  • 5 of 5

Most villas we’ve been fortunate enough to spend time at have usually been sterile affairs that detract rather than add to the holiday experience. Not here. This is more like a home swap (fortunately the owners don’t have to put up with ours!) with all the domestic appliances , mismatched furniture and drawers full of odds and ends that you’d find in any normal home.

Whilst the villa is beautiful, the pool was the main attraction for our family. The kids spent hours in there playing on the inflatables (loads in the store) while offering the grown ups cool down time after lazing on the sun beds.

We had a few minor niggles during our stay (light fittings etc) but these were sorted very quickly by John and Zandi which was reassuring.

It should be noted that there are no bars or markets within realistic walking distance, so everything is a 10 minute car journey and the driveway is interesting to say the least!

We loved it here and will likely return which is the biggest compliment anyone can make, but next time we’ll ensure that we have two drivers for the hire car to share the load.

Thank you for letting us share your villa - we enjoyed every minute and are very envious!

Owner's Response: Delighted you enjoyed what is our home in the Algarve as this is the feel we strive to maintain. Like most homes there are always minor repairs/ maintenance to be done but John and Zandy do us proud. Sometimes guests don't always let them know if things aren't as they should be which inconveniences the next guests. Not quite sure what you mean about mismatched furniture as apart from bookcase and settees it was all made locally in matching pine ? Hope you have returned home refreshed and would be happy to have you back again Angela

Lovely villa with a gorgeous pool in the middle of the Portuguese countryside.

  • 4 of 5

We had a fabulous time at the villa. Our children were barely out of the pool the whole time! In the middle of the countryside down a dirt track. Angela's directions to villa were spot on and although we had never driven abroad before we didn't get lost (sat nav tried taking us to a different route). Had a wonderful relaxing week and weather was beautiful for early April.

Wonderful relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had the most relaxing holiday at Monte Das Pedras. The villa is in a beautiful setting on a hillside. It was very clean and tidy, the maid comes twice a week. The pool is fabulous and a lovely size 9x5 approx, the shallow end is 1.25m which was perfect for me as someone who likes to be able to touch the bottom. The deep end was 2.25m which was great for my husband who is a confident swimmer. There are numerous terraces to sit on, including a nice size roof terrace for star gazing.

The views from the front terrace are stunning and the garden surrounding the villa is very well laid out.

We wanted a relaxing holiday and thats exactly what we got.

The driveway is quite steep but its fine in 1st gear. It only took about 30 minutes from Faro Airport.

The villa is a nice size and well equiped, there are shutters on the doors and windows and a security alarm which makes you feel safe and secure.

We went to the municipal market in Loulé one Saturday morning and loved it. If you like fresh fish this is the place to go and it was very reasonably priced. They also had meat, honey, fruit and veg, wine and a couple of small pottery/gift shops inside and around the outside.

Google maps took us to the Gypsy market by mistake, which we didn't like at all. It was stalls put up on a disused building site, fake handbags and purses everywhere. Although there were a couple of nice linen stalls.

We drove in to Tavira one morning which was lovely, there are loads of restaurants and a small ruined castle (just some of the outer walls are left) but the view is wonderful and it is free.

The villa is only about a 12 minute drive from the large Continente Supermarket on the outskirts of Loulé. We also went to the smaller Intermarche supermarket in Sao Bras de Alportel but preferred the Continente.

Angela the owner was very quick responding to any questions I had. There was a small welcome pack which was much appreciated at 11.15pm!

We would definitely recommend this villa to friends and family, however if you have any trouble walking or climbing a few steps it is probably not suitable. Thank you Angela for allowing us to stay in your wonderful villa.

Gorgeous setting and villa

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed in the algarve many times over the years, and this villa for the price is amazing, it is not your typical modern villa however it's very comfortable. The outside is by far the best, the pool is lovely and the breakfast terrace with the views is the best I have seen out of all the villas I've stayed in. Quiet and peaceful and tranquil.. Thankyou Angela will be back for sure

Amazing villa Monte das Pedras

  • 5 of 5

The villa is very well equipped and there is a really nice pool area as well as a large breakfast/dining terrace. In Loulé and Sao Bras (ca. 5-6 km) you can find both the supermarkets as well as good reastaurants. In the surrounding of the villa we could listen and recognize plenty of summer birds and the swallows were showing their flying skills in nice sun shine in April 2016.

Thank you Angela for all, we are pleased to recommend this villa to our friends!

Monte das Pedras is situated down a quiet non-tarmaced lane in beautiful countryside 20 minutes drive from Faro Airport, mid-way between Loulé and São Bras de Alportel. Set in one acre of hillside it has no neighbouring properties within view. Depending on the season it offers wonderful spring flowers, spectacular sunsets and good walking and birdwatching, certainly a place to unwind. North lie the mountains and conservation areas of cork oak and eucalyptus forests and the Alentejo, whilst the Spanish border is only 45 minutes east.

It is 25 minutes from beaches and top class golf facilities at Val do Lobo and Quinta do Lago.

There are a number of small food shops and bars in nearby Gorjoes and Agostos, with a good European restaurant less that 2km away, and good supermarkets and restaurants in Loulé and São Bras de Alportel, none more than 6km away.
