About the property

5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 15, outdoor shower

Enjoy Nantucket the way it used to be in charming Wauwinet.

This bright and cheery beach house is just steps from the Atlantic ocean and the best Bass fishing beach on the East Coast.

It's also a short bike ride to the famed Nantucket Moors and a hundred miles of secluded mountain bike trails.

It is truly Summer living at its best with 4 plus bedrooms in a light and bright well maintained house.

The interior is summer fresh with breathtaking views from every window.

Outside two lovely decks open to a private stretch of what many say is the prettiest beach on Nantucket.

The ideal location provides an unmatched vantage point from which to explore Nantucket's summer fun while also being able to retreat to the 'quiet and serene' side of the island.

Perfect for a family or just a summer getaway.

Also available: cute two bedroom cottage on nearby property

Fishing: Just steps from the deck is one of the most active fishing grounds in the world. In fact, the Wauwinet village was historically a favorite of the island's Native Americans and has been considered a local surfcaster's paradise for decades.

All Summer and Fall, Striped Bass make their way back and forth in the teeming Atlantic tides that run just off shore. They are well within surfcasting distance and there is no place more reliable than Wauwinet.

In addition, the Wauwinet waters teem with schools of fluke and bluefish, the bluefish offering one of the best fights a fisherman could ever hope for, thrilling both locals and visitors alike.

Bluefish always

Mountain Bike Riding: Just a short distance from the front door is one of the most well maintained bike path roots in the East. Go to town or visit the Quaint village of Siasconsett---all on protected and safe paved bike paths.

Or go off roading in the Moors. Just up the Wauwinet road is the famed Nantucket Moors, one of Nantuckets hidden treasures. There are hidden lakes and breathtaking landscapes that have drawn the eyes of artists from around the world.

Winding through these dramatic and picturesque landscapes are hundreds of miles of bike paths. One minute you're darting through the woods in speedy and turning paths. The next you're on top of a knoll with views of the entire island and a sunset that makes a heart ache.

The Wauwinet Inn: The Wauwinet Inn is located just steps away and offers 5 star lunches and dinners all within walking distance

The internationally acclaimed restaurant, TOPPER'S. celebrates Nantucket's bountiful harvests from the sea and shore and features the distinct, natural flavors of seasonal foods.

It has an atmosphere both sophisticated and relaxed, and boasts an award-winning wine cellar that is a long-time recipient of the coveted Wine Spectator's Grand Award.

Barefoot Bliss!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely amazing beach cottage, with every comfort needed! We would gladly return to this little gem again and again!

This house is exactly what Nantucket, and especially Squam/Wauwinet means to us: sand, surf and serenity. The spotless and comfortable house is literally on the beach, tucked behind a lovely dune. The view from the kitchen window is breathtaking - it made me almost long to rinse the dishes and load the very new-looking dishwasher! The beach path is short and easy to navigate. Thirty seconds to the rolling surf and broad beach, where two lounge chairs and one all weather Adirondack chair were waiting to be enjoyed. Beach toys were available: surfboards, kayaks, and more. But we were so thrilled to relax - on the teak chairs and benches on either of the two decks or inside on the cozy couches on those "grey lady" days - that we didn't find the time to use all those wonderful grown up toys.

The beds were copious and comfortable. Our two college-age children slept well to the sounds of the ocean, as did we in the master king bed. There were plenty of bath and beach towels, as well as extra blankets and space heaters for cooler nights in early June.

The kitchen was perfect. It is open plan, with a Five Star gas range, dishwasher (clean and new), full size fridge/freezer, and microwave (also looked new). The wine fridge in the dining area was a bonus! There are loads of dishes, glassware, serving pieces, baking tins/sheets, and small appliances, including two blenders (!) for morning smoothies.

But I wasn't stuck in the kitchen the whole time ;) as my husband actually enjoyed grilling on the BRAND NEW gas grill on one of the decks, with a dune and ocean view. Even the grilling tools were new or almost new!

We didn't use the charming top floor bedroom with lovely beach views, filled with additional beds, or the fourth bedroom on the main floor, but all looked comfortable and well-outfitted.

There is plenty of parking along a shell-lined driveway/parking area, and the front yard is quite large, with a bike rack and room for throwing a football or Frisbee, or for kicking a soccer ball.

Bathrooms are better than expected for a beach cottage, with very good shower pressure, and updated vanities. There were even complimentary Hermes toiletries in each.

Douglas was a wonderful host, attentive and communicative. Thank you for the perfect Nantucket beach holiday!

True Island Living

  • 5 of 5

When we visit Nantucket, we usually stay fairly close to town so that we are within walking distance to dining, shopping, etc. This vacation, we were looking to get away from it all and spend a week ON a beach. We were also looking for a pet friendly home so that we could bring the dogs. This house did not disappoint! It is literally steps from a beautiful, quiet, private beach. It was nice to be able to have the dogs hang on the beach with us, as the other public beaches on the island do not allow this in the summer months.

The house had everything you could think you'd need, as well as things you didn't realize you'd need/want! - beach chairs, umbrella, outdoor shower, grill, washer/dryer, ocean kayaks, surfboards, boogie boards, canoe...

As soon as I stepped into the house, I felt relaxed and at home. It brought me back to when I was younger and used to spend parts of my summers down the Cape at my friend's parent's cottage. Don't expect to walk in here to see high-end appliances, stiff and uncomfortable furniture and fancy decor. You will be disappointed. This charming house truly exemplifies Cape and island living "the way it used to be": true island living. The bedrooms were clean and decorated simply in true cottage style. The kitchen had everything you need to cook/bake/grill (and a huge lobster pot!). The home itself is open and airy with large windows looking out on the beautiful dune grasses.

We had some friends stay with us the first few nights and the house was great for entertaining a small crowd (8 of us). We grilled some steaks, dined on the patio, and had a fire on the beach complete with s'mores.

So long as you have food in the fridge, there's practically no need to leave the house for the week (although there is so much beauty to explore on the island)! We loved the location of the house too. The neighborhood is quiet and tucked away from the main roads. It's a drive to get pretty much everywhere (except Topper's), but we enjoyed that distance from the late summer crowds.

Thanks, Douglas for sharing your piece of heaven with us and being so communicative and helpful during and after our stay.

We are still talking about our beach vacation on Wauwinet and I've already started checking availability for next year. :)

Perfect beach vacation

  • 5 of 5

The house is in a spectacular location and is perfect. The patio has an amazing ocean view. Living area with windows looking over the ocean. There is lots of room - it is child friendly (although I think no pack and play for little, little ones). Kitchen is well equipped (lots of dishes, lobster tools, dishwasher and even a ninja blender). We loved every second of our vacation.

Lovely House

Stayed with friends and had a great time. As we all had kids it was nice to be steps away from the beach. Outdoor patio area was perfect for dinner. Highly recommend and hope to find myself back there in a few years (for two weeks :)
