a little trivia....: Before European settlers arrived the Brookfield area was home to the Lassawa and Nipmuc Indian Tribes, situated in the Quaboag Plantation (deeded in 1660). Quaboag is a Nipmuc Indian name meaning 'before the pond'. It can be assumed that one of the 'ponds' was indeed Furnace Pond, a pond man made by an Iron Works Company around 1850. Between 1880 and 1890 the pond was enlarged by the Stevens Textile Mill and renamed Lake Lashaway.
The shores of this beautiful lake grace both North Brookfield and East Brookfield. It's an excellent lake for all water sports including swimming, and touts fishing year round. Its waters are fed by the Five Mile River and trophy-size Northern Pike have been caught and recorded.
Lake Lashaway and the surrounding towns offer a deverse historical and cultural richness, yet the area still maintains a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere to please the most ardent nature-lover.

Father's Day Weekend 2016
This was the 2nd time we have rented this "ADORABLE" cottage. 2 yrs ago we brought our teenage kids with us and they had a blast jet skiing and tubing on the lake. This year we brought my parents for Father's Day weekend and they just absolutely LOVED it!! The sleeping quarters are perfect for 4. The futon on the porch is very comfortable and you get to see the sun rise in the morning. This rental is just perfect. It has everything that you could possibly need but if you do need anything the owners are right next door. She even offered to take a pic of us on the water when we were heading out on the kayaks together, GREAT MEMORIES! The landscaping is so well taken care of and the location is so peaceful. This place has so much more to offer than a hotel, including a washer/dryer. I strongly suggest it! If you don't feel like cooking the 308 Lakeside restaurant is right across the way which offers a good menu with lakeside eating but we chose to cook ourselves (gas grill provided) and enjoy the same view as the restaurant because we never wanted to leave. We even have a campfire at night! No bugs either, I was surprised. :) We can't thank you enough for sharing your wonderful cottage, we can't wait to return!
Thanks for the great review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Please come back anytime.
Outstanding in Every Way!
I just returned from spending 6 nights at this charming cottage on Lashaway Lake. The owners have thought of everything! The cottage was super clean and nicely decorated, and the bathroom had a washer/dryer and included small amenities like toiletries. The kitchen was large and didn't lack for a thing. I loved that there were plenty of sitting options lakeside from lounges, to chairs, to a picnic table. I went out almost every morning with coffee and worked at the table. And the gardens! Flowers everywhere!!! A friend slept on the futon and said it was very comfortable, so no worries there. It was also easy to get around to other areas of the state from this location. By far one of the best places I've ever rented. I'll be back!
clean, comfortable, cute, impeccably maintained cottage
Our family of four (including two small boys) just stayed for a week at this wonderful cottage and would recommend it highly. It is obvious that the owners have put a lot of TLC into decorating and renovating this cute cottage, which is exactly as described, and actually looks even better in person. We enjoyed our week here immensely: the views, the peace and quiet, coming home to this delightful sanctuary -- it was great. Having a beach within walking distance was wonderful, as was the immaculately-maintained yard. The only improvement could be the wifi -- it might have been my computer, but I was barely able to get online at all. We were so busy that it didn't matter that much. Highly recommended.
Thank you for the nice review. It was a pleasure meeting you and your family, and we are glad you and the boys had a good time. We will certainly look into the Wi-Fi issue. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
Wonderfully cozy cottage on the water
Very much appreciated all the amenities the owners provided for my stay - in-unit washer/dryer was a nice bonus. Great fishing and very relaxed atmosphere when in town for a family wedding in Princeton, MA.
Excellent location near Worcester, Quabbin Reservoir / Amherst, and lots of charming bits of history to learn about Colonial New England when exploring the nearby towns and Sturbridge Village.
Loved the lush garden, including the gorgeous Sunrises and Sunsets, chipmunks, rabbits and water craft passing by.
If in the area, I'd absolutely stay there again. Thanks to the O'Neils for a wonderful vacation hideaway.
First of all the cottage is clean and has every little thing you could possibly need. My husband and I came for a little get away and to do some fishing. The fishing was exceptional and the grounds were very relaxing. Our hosts were two of the nicest people you could meet and were avilable if we needed anything. We will make arrangements to go back next summer for a longer stay and would go sooner if there were days available.
Thank you, Linda, for your thoughtful review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay, and would love to have you back anytime.

It is so cute!
We stayed here for 3 nights, our main reason for our trip was to go to Brimfield Antique Show. It was so nice to come back to a cozy cottage after walking around and shopping all day. The cottage has all the comforts of home and my husband kept saying, "This place is so cute!" - this is from a guy who doesn't normally say things like this. It is nice because it is quiet, but is centrally located from many attractions. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!
We are located on Lake Lashaway in East Brookfield, Massachusetts. The area is friendly and safe for walking, biking, water skiing, swimming, boating, and fishing. Picturesque Lake Lashaway is 1 1/2 miles long and 1/2 mile wide, and was rated by the Boston Herald to be one of the top bass fishing lakes in Central Massachustts. Other Activities: Boating
