This family holiday home is a 3 bedroom 2-storey Provençal villa located at the entrance to the beautiful Medieval village of Grimaud, with private terrace and close proximity to the swimming pool. This is an ideal setting for anyone who loves the tranquil countryside of the Var region but wants to be within easy reach of the sea and coastal resorts, as well as within walking distance of some excellent bars and restaurants and most amenities.

The landscaped gardens include a generously sized pool, and the views of the surrounding countryside, from both the pool and the villa, are stunning.

Grimaud is situated on a hill overlooking the gulf of St Tropez and the Maures mountains. It lies very close to the sea and only 15 minutes from St Tropez. Surrounded by rolling mountains and gorgeous pine forests on one side, and the sea on the other, Grimaud is located on the “Route des Vins”. It is a popular location due not only to its surroundings and proximity to famous coastal resorts such as St Tropez, St. Maxime, Nice and Cannes, but also to the 11th Century castle and surrounding bougainvillea hung cobble streets.

Within a 15 minutes drive there are some of the best beaches on the coast and the Beauvallon golf course is only 15 minutes away. There are plenty of family activities in the area, e.g. horse riding, cycling , walking, playground, tennis & basketball court, and a water park located 2 km outside the village nestles in the surrounding hills and pine forest.

In the village of Grimaud there are several local restaurants, a hairdresser, excellent boulangerie and equally good patisserie, children’s playground, tennis court, football pitch and post office. The nearest supermarket is located just down the road on the way to Cogolin.

Grimaud – the village

Lots of local information is available in the house and also at the tourist office just a walk away.

La Tarte Tropezienne – local village baker in the centre of Grimaud open from 7am till 8pm for fresh bread, baguettes and delicious patisserie and savouries.

La Fournee Grimaudoise - another local boulangerie open Tuesday to Saturday.

Supermarkets - Intermarche on the main 558 road between Grimaud and Cogolin. Otherwise the larger Geant between Port Grimaud and St Tropez, or Leclerc in Cogolin. Grand Frais also sell excellent fresh fruit and vegetables.

Restaurants - There are so many good restaurants in Grimaud, all within walking distance, that you’ll be spoilt for choice! The new favourite is Le St Joseph, run by two young Italians. Bar Clem does good value Brasserie food, or there’s Fleur du Sel - a tiny restaurant serving excellent food outdoors. Just up the road is Les Santons - more pricey but high quality rich French food. La Cantina is 5 minutes walk away and you can eat in-house or or choose one of their many delicious takeaway pizzas, pasta etc.

There are several walks you can take from the village, for example Le Pierredon - trough a charming valley bordered by olive trees, or The Footpath of the Fairy Bridge on which you can see turtles and maybe even the Diane, a protected butterfly.

There are also plenty of local water sports, from the electric boats you can hire to travel round the canals of Port Grimaud, to Kayaks, yachting and speed boats.

Places to Visit

Grimaud market is every Thursday morning.

St Tropez market in the main square every Saturday and Tuesday morning - worth going to see. Great shopping, harbour etc. about 10 -15 mins drive from Grimaud. Book in advance at Le Club 55 and you can enjoy a superb meal while you do some celebrity spotting!

Gassin - old historic medieval hill-top town; great restaurants and spectacular views from the village.

Ramateulle - nice old town further along the same road as Gassin

Bormes le Mimmosa - beautiful town about 30mins away. Well signposted - take the N98 in the direction of Toulon. Take right hand turn at top of mountain and follow signs. Very picturesque drive over hills. Lots of shops, bars and restaurants.

Cogolin – Great market town with plenty of restaurants. Possibly the most accessible for supermarket shopping at Leclerc, on the main road (N98) as you drive past Cogolin along the by-pass.

Port Grimaud - very pretty marina, reminiscent of Venice, with shops & restaurants. There’s a ferry from here to St Tropez - worth doing to avoid the traffic.

Vineyards

We really enjoy visiting the local vineyards in the region and some of the local wines are excellent. The area mainly produces Rose, but there are also some really excellent reds and whites.

In particular the area around l’Estagnol beach and travelling along the coast road from Bormes to Le Lavandou is really stunning countryside. Visit Château Bregancon. Château Louebe and Château Ott. Also Château Minuty on the road to Ramatuelle has really excellent local wines as does St Maur, and Domaine Siouvette. There is also a restaurant in Château Minuty.

Restaurants in nearby La Mole

“Auberge de La Mole” – A famous and excellent restaurant!

“Realis d’Alsace” - on the main street in La Mole Run by Corine & Michael. Always welcome families and children! Very good homely food.

About Zoe Egerton

I am an interior designer based in Brighton with my two teenage children. I grew up in north London (when it was a little less crowded!) but love living on the South Coast, where there is plenty to see and do for all of us.

Why Zoe Egerton chose St Tropez region

I and the children have come to Grimaud and the local area many times over the years and love the scenery, warm temperatures, the smell of the pines and the local food and wines (well, at least I enjoy the latter!). Positioned up on the hill, Grimaud benefits from the most fabulous views, as well as many hours of sunshine each day. Out of all the paces we've visited, I knew Grimaud was the only place I wanted to look for a property.

What makes this villa unique

This villa is ideal for us. It's set within beautifully maintained gardens, away from the street, so it's quiet, and we have parking (a bit of a luxury in Grimaud). We can nip round to the swimming pool at any time or simply relax on the terrace and enjoy the view until well into the evening, while the local patisseries for fresh baguettes and croissants are just around the corner. There is even a lift up to the top level of the village!

Nice villa with fantastic terrace views

  • 4 of 5

The villa is in a small complex at the bottom of Grimaud village with shared pool. Fantastic views over the valley and only 5-10min drive to Port Grimaud beach with massive public car park and reasonable parking rates (about £10 for whole day) given the location.

Lots of nice restaurants in the village within walking distance and great cycling in the hills around (if you're into that sort of thing!).

Many great Rose vinyards within easy reach to visit and more nice restaurants down in Port Grimaud.

Very convenient spot and nice, well kept villa, with added bonus of table tennis table, which our boys played every day.

A lovely villa in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of four and the villa was perfect, it felt lovely and spacious and we are planning to return next year with family friends. The villa was very comfortable, tastefully decorated and nice and clean! The facilities were good, it provided everything we needed for our stay. It was wonderful to have breakfast out on the terrace and have a glass of wine in the evening after a day out - the views are absolutely beautiful and really made you feel like you were away from it all. The communal pool was a big bonus too - the children loved having the freedom to have a swim whenever they wanted!

We also loved exploring the area, St Tropez had some great local markets and Port Grimaud had a lovely sandy beach with clear water. The kids loved the water activities there (peddlos and boat trips). The town has some lovely stalls, shops and restaurants. All in all we loved our stay, a real pleasure to find such a great villa.

Stunning views over vineyards to the mountains

  • 5 of 5

Well laid out property with designer touches to it. Very comfortable beds - which was a big plus. The south facing terrace has superb views over the valley and vineyards to the mountains beyond.

Couple of lovely patisseries nearby for lovely pain au chocolat on the terrace.

Only 10 minutes to Port Grimaud and only a few minutes more for a designer shop fix in San Tropez. Oh the temptation - but window shopping only!

A beautiful house set in the most amazing location

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful house, tastefully decorated, clean and in the most enchanting of locations. The old medieval village of Grimaud is one of the prettiest in Provence with a wide selection of restaurants and bars, although you probably will be happy sitting on the stunning terrace or sunning yourself by the large pool. Beaches are close and St Ttropez a short drive away.We shall want to visit again and again.

Grimaud, itself, is a beautiful medieval village with several excellent restaurants and bars for you to enjoy, all only a walk away along Bourgainvillea festooned cobbled streets.

At the top of the hill is the famous castle dating back to before the 11th Century. There is also a folk museum, St Michael's Church and three chapels for you to visit. A choice of 3 footpaths lead out from the village, as well as the Valley of the Fairy Bridge.

The Petit Train is also a delightful way to view the village - very popular with children!

Just down the road you have the picturesque Venetian style Port Grimaud, with lovely sandy beaches, restaurants and the St Tropez ferry.

Within a 15 minute drive are some of the best beaches on the coast, as well as plenty of family activities for you to enjoy: Horse riding, cycling, playground, tennis and basketball court and a water park nestling in the surrounding hills and pine forest. There is also yachting, kayaking and paddle boating if you prefer a more aquatic pastime.

Markets:

There are several local markets - St Tropez has one every Saturday morning. In the many tiny streets leading up to this, you'll also find many tempting designer boutiques, cafes and restaurants.

Places to Visit:

Gassin - old historic medieval hill-top town with great restaurants and spectacular views.

Bormes - le Mimmosa - beautiful town about 30 mins away by car with a very scenic drive over hills, offering many shops, bars and restaurants.

Vineyards:

Visiting these is a lovely way to pass the time as there are some excellent local vineyards. The area mainly produces Rose but there are inevitably some superb reds and whites as well. You could try Chateau Bregancon, Louebe and Ott, all situated in the area around l'Estagnol beach along the coast road. Otherwise there is Chateau Minuty, on the road to Ramatuelle, or St Maur and Domaine Siouvette.

Within the property you'll find lots more information about sites to see and activities to take part in.
