I have lived in this beautiful part of mid Wales all my life and I farm our family hill farm. We look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful part of the country.
John Gittins purchased this cottage in 2010
Had an absolutely amazing trip in Wales and Rhos Y Gallt provided an amazing base for our adventures. The weather was fantastic and the cottage was perfectly fitted out. Truly enjoyed our walks to the river and getting to see all of the scenery and landscape. Perfectly situated between Welshpool and Newtown, it gives you two decent sized cities for doing your grocery shopping and meals. Would definitely recommend this house to everyone. Thank you, John for the wonderful stay.
The cottage was very well equipped and big enough to accommodate our party of five adults and two dogs. The cake on arrival was a pleasant surprise and went down very well with a cup of tea after a long journey.
Large inclosed garden which was fantastic for our two Springer Spaniels who also enjoyed our daily trip across the meadow to the very shallow river.
There is a lovely walk down the lane, across meadows, over a wooden rickety bridge which leads you to a dog friendly pub serving great food.
Defiantly recommend for anyone looking for a quiet relaxing holiday.l
We loved our stay at the well equipped cottage with our two springer spaniels. Perfect location for a get away from it all break and activities only a short journey away should you want to seek them out. The cottage is set in lovely grounds perfect for our dogs, the short walk through the field to the river was a favourite for them every day! We found the footpath from the cottage to the local pub, only about 20 min walk and great food at the end of it. Recommend a visit to Lake Vyrnwy, Barmouth Beach, the Rainbow trails and take a trip on the steam train to Welshpool....all dog friendly! Weather was great so made use of the local butchers and the BBQ in the massive garden also! Thanks John, we had a great time!
Had a relaxing 11 days at this cottage, thanks to John for making us welcome, fruit cake was brilliant, lovely trout river 5 mins walk, caught around 10 brown trout and returned them all. Nearest town is Welshpool which had all we needed, also a train station with direct link to Birmingham.
We would certainly consider returning.

Had a fabulous stay at the Cottage all so clean and everything you need, the weather was not too kind to us but did not spoil a thing, our dog Sally had a ball the garden is like a field, so plenty of space for a dog that likes chasing balls, we met Mr Gittins a couple of times he was very helpful and friendly, would definitely recommend to friends, and hope to stay again in the future.
Beautiful cottage with fabulous surroundings. John and his wife made us feel very welcome, her homemade Bara brith cake was delicious. The little tipple and the Welsh teabags were also a very kind gesture. Stayed for a week and found everything we needed at the cottage. The large fridge and freezer was ideal as we bought everything with us for a weeks worth of cooking. Our two springer spaniels were in their element exploring all of John's fields and loved cooling off in the river. Just a note to dog owners if you need an enclosed garden for your dogs, then this may not be for you as my springers could get under the gates and thought the bushes. We drove to Newtown and Welshpool, both lovely towns with friendly people. All in all a lovely cottage and we will definately be returning to Rhos y Gallt again.
Rhos y gallt is situated in a beautiful part of Mid Wales where you can enjoy a peaceful retreat or participate in the many activities available in the area.
The cottage is set down a quiet country lane, has a large garden and it's own private river at the bottom of the field with fishing rights. Kayaks and canoes are occasionally seen on the river especially after rainfall. There is an abundance of walks and bike rides from the doorstep.
Take a walk for approximately a mile on footpaths through fields and over a footbridge arriving in the village of Llangadfan where there is a pub called The Cann Office and a vintage tea shop and café called Cwpan Pinc. Both serve wonderful home made meals to eat in or take away. Nearby village of Llanerfyl has a petrol station and the village of Llanfair Caereinon (5 miles) has several pubs, café, wine bistro, Health centre, dental surgery, butchers and grocery shops.
This area is a paradise for walkers with local walks starting from the doorstep. Nearby is the scenic Glyndwr's way, Rainbow trails in Dyfnant forest and Lake Vyrnwy. Both Dyfnant forest and Lake Vyrnwy have different trails for different abilities and both share spectacular views. Cycle hire is also available at Lake Vyrnwy, as well as bird watching and water sports.
Other local attractions include Llanfair & Welshpool light railway, Powis Castle, Montgomery canal, Glansevern Hall gardens and the center for alternative technology in Machynlleth.
There are also golf courses, pony trekking, quad biking, white water rafting, canoeing and ropes course within a short drive.
