About Susie Ellis
We have lived in France for many years and our children are educated here. We have had the incredible opportunity to live in several far flung countries around the world, but we always return to France, this is where we call home. We have now settled here, in the Charente Maritime, permanently - it is where we love to live as a family. My husband is a keen fisherman and would love to show you around the local fishing areas. We are both passionate about nature and wildlife and keen to help anyone explore the amazing Marais de Brouage which adjoins the village - it is a wonderful habitat for many species of wildlife. We love cooking, growing our own vegetables, our garden, cycling and enjoying the French lifestyle.

Why Susie Ellis chose Saint-Jean-d'Angle
This is the perfect property for us, just 15 minutes from the beach and the coast, just 10 minutes into the thriving beautiful city of Rochefort. We have 1.5 acres of beautiful park like gardens and yet we are in the heart of the village. We are not isolated, we are able to walk to the village school, the bakery, the bar and the post office. There are lovely walks through the village and surrounding countryside finding tiny vineyards and beautiful views. Finally there is the Marais de Brouage, the most incredible habitat for wildlife, it is right on our doorstep and it is hard to beat for walking and cycling. In short the area is perfect!

Susie and Roddy were always available to give advice and tips about what to do in the area. The gite is ideally situated in the Charente Maritime to explore the countryside, beaches and cities and is well equipped and comfortable. The garden is perfect for enjoying the sunshine as there are seats, loungers and parasols. We can recommend the accommodation to anyone wanting a quiet break but within easy reach of so many attractions nearby.
Very welcoming hosts. Spacious and well equipped gite, beautifully decorated. Great location for wetland birdwatching. Highly recommended.
Romantic treasure in Charente-Maritime
A romantic treasure, as I say. Who would realise what is hidden behind the wall and the big green gates? - a beautifully designed, tranquil retreat. Everything has been thought of for your comfort, even a huge tree bearing delicious figs. Near the stunning beaches of the Cote Sauvage and delightful towns and villages. Requires several visits to do all there is to do in the area. An absolute gem.
Wonderful holiday cottage
A beautiful holiday gite with very welcoming hosts and their delightful family. Gorgeous property which is superbly equipped. Garden is delightful with fresh produce available. If you want a truly idyllic base for an interesting holiday then this is for you. Lovely beaches nearby.
Second time stay as faultless as the first, really made to feel welcome like old friends. Roddy, Susie and children are a pleasure to spend time, definitely a 5 Star experience will return again.
A perfect place to relax and enjoy rural France
The Gite was furnished with a mix of traditional and newer furnishings. Well located on the edge of the village within good striking distance to explore the Charente Maritime area.
Everything was provided including a welcome pack of cheese, butter, milk, bread, fruit and wine. Good cooking facilities with bonus of being able to pick salad etc from the garden belonging to Susie and Roddy the owners and neighbours.
Susie , Roddy and family were delightful and made us welcome and struck a good balance of being there if needed or available if required.
The Gite and garden were quiet with the chance to just chill and read etc
The area is lovely but we would expect traffic and parking could be an issue in the Region in high season
Not much in the village and the Boulangerie is no longer open. There is nowhere to eat and the village but plenty of choice nearby and shops so this was not a problem.
