Welcome! Our renovated 180 year-old farmhouse is nestled in a small valley that lies under majestic Mt. Mansfield. Surrounded by farmland and knock-your-socks-off mountain views, our home is a place of peace and serenity that overlooks acres of pastures, streams, and woodlands.
Unlike other old farmhouses that have small rooms and confined spaces, our home has an open floor plan with 8 ft. ceilings, creating an atmosphere that is light and airy. Decorated in warm, earthy colors, each room has its own charm and character.
Three bedrooms have queen-size beds, another bedroom has a double bed, and the fifth bedroom has 2 twin beds. On the second floor the master bedroom has a private (though small!) full bath, and the other 3 bedrooms share a full bathroom (with bathtub and shower). The guest room on the first floor is adjacent with the downstairs bathroom, which has a claw-foot bathtub but no shower. Large floor areas can accommodate air mattresses and sleeping bags (we have 2 futon mattresses). The kitchen is fully equipped and ready for the most accomplished cook to prepare gourmet feasts.
Underhill and the surrounding region have an amazing array of opportunities for everyone’s taste. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast and like your days to be filled with adventure and adrenaline, there’s a whole network of trails right outside our back door for cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing in the winter, and hiking/walking and mountain biking in the spring, summer and fall. There is a lovely, easy-walking river trail close by with waist deep swimming holes stocked with trout every spring. But if you’re the type that just likes to sit quietly and enjoy the peace and quiet, you will be overwhelmed by the tranquil beauty of majestic Mount Mansfield from our deck, or scenic pasture views (often with cows parading past) from our cool and shady covered porch.
At Smuggler’s Notch Ski Resort (only 8 miles away), there are groomed cross-country ski trails and a skating arena as well as excellent downhill skiing and snow-boarding. If you’d like to try other ski areas, Stowe is just 45 minutes away (or you can ski to it from Smuggs) and Jay Peak is the same distance. If you are very adventurous, try ice climbing up in the Notch! A variety of trails lead up to Mount Mansfield's summit, easily accessible in winter or summer from our house. In the summer, Smuggler's Resort boasts a top-rated Frisbee golf course, mountain biking and various other activities. They also partner with Arbor Trek for zip lining through forests along with a challenging obstacle course. If you are a water person, try paddling the Lamoille River. Vermont Canoe and Kayak offers great options for half and full day paddles and tours.
For those looking for more cultural activities, there is no lack of beautiful vistas for the photographer and artist. There are multitudes of antique shops, art galleries, farmer markets, restaurants, theatres, and shops all within a 45 minutes radius that includes the resort town of Stowe and Vermont’s largest city, Burlington.
After your day’s activities, come back home and relax in our home that is warm and cozy in the winter, and cool and spacious in the summer. Wander the perennial and vegetable gardens or take a walk down the road to the local organic produce farm to purchase fresh vegetables for your dinner. Either season, stretch your tired muscles in our yoga studio, a renovated family room that now provides a wonderful space with polished wide pine floors for yoga and meditation practice.
Our home is the perfect place for your Vermont vacation. It is also the perfect setting for celebrations like weddings, reunions and graduations. Invite your family, friends and relatives to stay here with you. There are plenty of businesses in the area that would be happy to help you with catering and other services you might need. Contact us with any questions or concerns you have. We’ll be glad to help!

Lisa Timbers purchased this farmhouse in 1993
This note was left in our kitchen after a party of 11 rented our house for a week in February.
Dear Lisa and Mike,
Thank you so much for letting us use your beautiful home. It is stunningly gorgeous but more importantly it is so warm and welcoming. It is clear that these walls have been full of love and life for many years! We had an amazing time! Be well.
We had a great week-long family reunion at this beautiful farmhouse. My children and grandchildren gathered from all around the country in July to enjoy the beauty and activities that this corner of Vermont has to offer. Lisa and Mike gave us terrific suggestions for hiking, cycling, mountain biking (even lent us their bikes), canoeing and places to get great food. We had a wonderful, full week. It helped that the weather was perfect. We spent the evenings cooking together in the well-stocked kitchen and eating outside on the beautiful porch overlooking Lisa's gorgeous gardens and Mt. Mansfield. The house had plenty of room for the 9 adults and two toddlers that my family is right now. A great week!
We had never skied Smuggler's Notch and wanted a long winter weekend with our two children in College. Two of their friends joined us so we had 6 in the house. We fit with room to spare. Big reason we chose this VRBO spot is that they let us bring our dog. Skiing was good but just not a good winter for anywhere in the Northeast. Mountain was very close and easy to get to. The old farmhouse is loaded with character and the agricultural vistas against MT Mansfield are spectacular. Immediate trail access was perfect for walking the dog. Everything we needed was in the home. We would certainly consider a return trip, both for skiing or for mountain biking. Although we did not meet Lisa and Mike they had a friend check in our first evening and they were readily available via phone if needed. Thanks for sharing your home.
Our family of seven adults rented Lisa and Mike's place for four days in August so we could all be together for a significant family birthday. When we arrived, Lisa and Mike helped us settle in, and we felt immediately at home. The house was perfect for us, with with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms and excellent places to gather for socializing and meals. The kitchen had everything we needed. The house is in Pleasant Valley, one of the most peaceful and beautiful valleys in the state of Vermont, and the deck has an absolutely stunning view of Mt. Mansfield (even more lovely than the photo on the website, as a prior reviewer states). The other plus was being able to engage Lisa to lead us in a combo Yoga/Pilates session one morning - what a treat! Thank you for a lovely stay.
The pictures do not do justice to this lovely home. The rooms are comfy and the kitchen is well stocked. (love that coffee maker). The gardens and grounds are so beautiful and well-maintained. Wish I was back in that porch hammock. Thanks Lisa and Mike.
We spent 3 nights at Mike and Lisa's for part of our spring break ski trip in March. We were 2 families with four young kids and there was more than enough room for everyone. The kids burned off whatever energy was left after skiing by playing in the yoga room while the adults made dinner. The kitchen had everything we needed and the layout of the house gave everyone somewhere to relax for a bit if they wanted. It was an easy 10 minute drive to Smuggler's and everyone agreed it beat staying at the resort. Soaking up a bit of warm afternoon sun outside on the porch after this cold winter was a welcome bonus. We've rented a lot of houses and cottages in the eastern US and Canada over the years and this is one worth coming back to, it was exactly what we were looking for.
We just spent the week with our family of 15 up at Lisa & Mike's and had a great time! The house and location were perfect for our group. We spent most days skiing at Smuggs, along with hiking, sledding and brewery/winery tour. Mike was a great resource for all fun things to do in Vermont! Hope to go back soon and get some mountain biking in.
