Le Logis des Abbesses (fifteenth / sixteenth century) was completely renovated in spring 2015. It is totally independent and has a large paved courtyard, a large garden (400 m2) both fenced. It is classified "furnished accommodation 4 *." The ground floor consists of a large living room in the former parlor of the house and a fully equipped kitchen opening onto the courtyard to the east; a lavatory. On the first floor, a library opening in the West (bed 90 x 190) gives access to the room Abbesses located in the old upper room of the house (double bed 160 x 200), to the chamber of the Loire (2 beds 80 x 200 for a double bed or two twin beds) and a bathroom (shower, toilet and sink). On the second floor, a landing gives access to the Garden bedroom opening to the East (2 beds 80 x 200 double bed or twin beds) and en suite bathroom opening to the Loire (bath, toilet, washbasin ) and a kichnette (fridge) and laundry (washing machine). Access to the garden.
Free parking is available to tenants (2 seats) in the adjoining property to help make the most of the paved courtyard and will take meals (barbecue available).
A delightful house, we really enjoyed staying here. It is atmospheric and full of beautiful things, so very different from many holiday rentals.
The renovation has been sympathetic and is very much as represented on the website.
We found it to be extremely comfortable. No corners have been cut with " cheap and cheerful " furnishings, everything is of very good quality. We particularly
enjoyed the vintage pieces of furniture and, for example, the Picquot ware tea set.
2 gorgeous Le Corbusier tables to use and enjoy will perhaps help you get the idea of the remarkable standards found at " Le Logis ".
Beds and linens were very comfortable with a good supply of top quality towels which are professionally laundered along with sheets and duvet covers.
The kitchen is extremely well equipped with no corners cut but we did miss a mug for my husband's tea as he was not so happy using the lovely tea bowls. We travel with our own coffee machine and espresso size cups so it wasn't a big problem.
The house was prepared to the highest standard and was immaculately clean.
We felt we were " on holiday " from the moment we arrived as the layout is so very different. There are 30 stairs in total to the three floors but we did not find them to be a problem. You soon get used to thinking of this slightly different way of life and leave things on the right floor ! It should be noted that I am not at all nimble and cannot see very well as I am awaiting eye surgery but had no difficulty with the stairs. I found them rather fun & it's really only one extra flight compared to home!
One thing we'd like to see is a better shower on the middle floor. The existing one is adequate but not of the standard of everything else.
It was 38C when we arrived but we found the bedroom on the middle floor to be cool and comfortable.
The house felt welcoming and it seems as if the renovation has been carried out by someone who loves the property and who has a trained eye for getting things right. We were captivated by " Le Logis " and consequently spent more time in than we were anticipating. The top garden with adjacent kitchenette was a lovely spot to sit morning and evenings with coffee or a sundowner and take in the views.
Montsoreau is attractive and permits easy access to many delights. Our particular favourite was "The Priory Abbey of Notre Dame de Cunault" beautifully situated in a riverside village.
In closing I would like to offer my Congratulations to the owner.
We have just come back from a week-long stay at this lovely gite, which suited our family group (ages 17 months to 78 years!) perfectly. The layout is quite quirky - the garden is accessed from the top floor - but the rooms have been tastefully renovated and all the bedrooms (plus the bathrooms!) enjoy great views out over the rooftops of Montsoreau down to the Loire.
Lots of facilities are located within an easy walk of the gite including a boulangerie, small supermarket, several restaurants and bars, wine caves and the famous castle of Montsoreau itself.
It is ideally suited for numerous day trips - we took in Saumur, Villandry, Amboise, Chinon and Château d'Ussé while we were there but there are many other options within an hour's drive. Plus, just 5 mins up the road is Abbeye de Fontevrault, which also has a really good restuarant.
A great spot for taking in the local attractions, cycle routes and wine - we would definitely recommend it!
Interesting property that is part of the history of the area. Good location for investigating the area. Newly refurbished and well equipped. Very friendly and helpful owners. Set over 3 floors with entrances at top and bottom. Some may find the stairs a challenge.
We spent 9 days recently in this beautiful gite, enjoying the location at Montsoreau and proximity to the Loire in a different season. The changing colours and landscape of deep autumn were entrancing; the gite was comfortably warm against the colder temperatures. Furnishings and bed linen of excellent quality, tasteful and very comfortable. In summer, the outdoor garden and courtyard areas would be brilliant; in this season, the walks around Montsoreau without the holiday crowd and in cooler temperatures were a real pleasure. Only 2 minutes walk from the boulangerie, boucherie, epicerie and weekend markets so everything within easy reach. We enjoyed cooking in the full kitchen and Diane of Meridor and the 2 local creperies are great for meals out. The Marine Hotel Spa is amazing for treatments. Last but not least, thank you Luc for the wine and the best plum jam we have ever tasted.
Montsoreau is located on the border of Anjou, Touraine and Poitou. It is labeled "Most beautiful villages in France", "Small City of Character", "Village Fleuri" and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a remarkable step on the path of the "Loire à Vélo".
Many cultural, gastronomic and sporting activities are easily accessible from the home; Loire castles, Cité Internationale du Cheval de Saumur, Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, Chinon Fortress, walled town of Richelieu, etc ...
Montsoreau is in the center of the vineyards of Saumur Champigny, Bourgueil and Chinon.
Montsoreau has all shops (bakery, butchery, delicatessen, supermarket, hairdresser, etc ...) and many bars and restaurants (gourmet restaurant Diana Maridor, creperie The Lacemaker, ....); everything is within walking distance (you can forget your car during your stay).
A regional products market is held every Sunday morning on the Place du Mail (150 m from the house) and a large flea market takes place every 2nd Sunday of the month.
