Overview

About the property

Maenporth Beach, sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms. Great views of Falmouth Bay.

Number 4 The Ridges is perfect for a family holiday as it's close to the beach, the leisure facilities and to the town of Falmouth which is bustling with activity for all ages. It's a super little apartment that's bursting with colour and personality, and is decorated throughout in a theme that reflects the bold colours of the sea and the sand.

Step through the door and you'll find yourself in the spacious, open-plan living, dining and kitchen area - the walls are painted in a sandy fawn colour with bright, turquoise accents. There are two soft sofas with plenty of scatter cushions for reclining comfortably at the end of a busy day, both in front of the French doors, so it's a light and sunny space. The dining table is tucked away to one side, with plenty of space for relaxing over a long, family supper, or even for inviting a friend back for tea. If you're looking for an informal spot to eat, or just a space where the children can help make sandwiches for a pirate's picnic, there's a breakfast bar with two tall stools. In fact, a brand-new kitchen has just been installed, so you'll be working in a space with gleaming ivory-coloured units with chrome accessories. You'll find a new oven, hob and microwave, plus a dishwasher, so all kitchen duties should be easy and fuss-free.

Through to the master bedroom, all styled in a warm sunny yellow and sea-blue. The twin room is cool and contemporary in ecru and a navy blue. Both bedrooms have blinds at the windows as well as curtains, so you can choose to block out the light, or allow the early morning sunshine to filter through as a natural wake-up call. The bathroom has recently been renovated with a modern, white suite. There is a bath and an electric, overhead shower to suit everybody's needs. As an added extra, we now supply each guest with one bath and one hand towel, at no extra cost.

Outside, via the lounge, is the private balcony with chrome table and chairs. The views from here really are stunning - of the beach, but also of Falmouth Bay and beyond. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a late-afternoon Cornish Cream Tea before showering off the day's sand and getting ready for the evening ahead.

You have full use of the leisure facilities, all free of charge and for bookings of one week or more, we'll have a welcome pack of Taylors filter coffee, Smugglers tea, milk, a bottle of wine and a selection of Cornish biscuits ready for your arrival.

Ridges 4 has been awarded a four-star rating from Quality in Tourism. There is a refundable £100 deposit against damages required on this property.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your comments. It is a pity that you didn't contact us during you stay so we could have addressed the problem with the sink & tap. The cooker hood is brand new and has a new filter so again, so we are not too sure how it was smelling of stale food. Again, had we known, we would have contacted the Property Manager to investigate the smell. Regarding the mattress, I am so sorry you found it uncomfortable but it is very difficult for us to cater to everybodies preferences as to the firmness of the mattress. Best wishes Julie

an enjoyable stay at Maenporth once again.

  • 4 of 5

We felt that there were a few things that were wrong this time and we have stayed in Ridges 4 before. The apartment instructions were useless. There was no WiFi until Paul from Holiday Cornwall provided me with a box. There was no indication of which switches to use and one double connection didn't work. Also the washing machine didn't work and there was no information in the apartment to let us know. Again Paul told us a new one would be delivered which it was. This should have been done before our arrival on the 25th. If the cupboard door containing the washing machine was not opened you would not have see the instructions regarding the night storage heating as this was on the inside.

We felt that the bedrooms were very cramped and there was no hanging space in the second bedroom. The main bedroom had a wardrobe in it which is so bulky that the door hit the bed and it was very difficult to use it.

In spite of this we love the site and just felt that the standard was not as good as in the previous years. This could just be Ridges 4. We will definitely visit again but would choose another property.

Location great although beware very very steep hill to climb to get back from the beach.

Apartment looked like it had been left over the winter and not cleaned properly there was damp in both bedrooms and living room the kitchen has tape holding the work surface together and it looks like it hasn't been updated for many years the dishwasher leaked water and was unusable overall nice location great pool and view but poor apartment.

Owner's Response: Hello Mr Butler, We are so sorry you experienced those problems. Had we known about the dishwasher at the time, we would have had it repaired/ replaced. The kitchen is about to receive an overhaul, including new worktops, dishwasher etc, so we appreciate your comments on these. I know our MD, Mr Peter Berry, is currently looking at your complaint and he will be in touch soon, to try and make amends. With warm wishes, Sara

Map

The Maenporth Estate is just two miles from Falmouth and overlooks the beautiful Maenporth Beach. It's a private complex with a coded entrance gate, making it safe and secure for all guests.

Set in 29 acres of natural woodland, with stunning views of the cove, it's a perfect base for family holidays. You'll find two all-weather tennis courts, a children's play area, and, of course, the Leisure Centre where we have our indoor, heated pool, sauna and Jacuzzi. There are pool and table tennis tables - all free of charge.

The famous award-winning Cove Restaurant is on site, or if you'd prefer something simple, try the Life's a Beach Cafe - you guessed it, on Maenporth beach, for fresh crab sandwiches or a Cornish clotted cream ice-cream. Two miles along the coast and you'll come across Helford Passage and the wonderful Ferryboat Inn which specialises in serving local seafood dishes. From here you can catch the foot ferry across to Helford Village, or hire a rowing boat or paddle board for the afternoon.

Maenporth's a sheltered cove with shallow waters, making it perfect for all kinds of family beach activities: the little ones will love paddling, splashing daddy, and clambering through rock pools. There's plenty of sand and piles of pebbles for sandcastle building, and beautiful, clear water for swimming.

Arvor Sea Kayaking offer guided kayaking trips throughout the year, and Cornwall Divers will take you on a scuba diving course from the beach! And, at low tide, you may spot the famous Scottish trawler, Ben Asdale, that was wrecked off the Maenporth coast on 30th December 1978.

The nearest town is Falmouth - the third largest natural harbour in the world - take a boat trip along the Carrick Waters to a smuggler's cottage, or hop on the ferry to St Mawes. Visit the Maritime Museum, great for children with its hands-on approach. Catch some the Grand Medieval Jousting at Pendennis Castle. Or simply sit with a cold glass of white wine and watch the boats glide by.

Whatever you choose to do, you'll be sure to unwind from the stresses of life, and simply relax...
