Perfect retreat with awful road
We cannot do justice to the farmhouse or the gardens or the helpfulness of the owner and caretaker once we arrived. They were excellent!
However, more than one mile of very narrow track with very rough surface made the only approach to the property a severe task - one member of the family had to park in the town and be 'ferried' to the farmhouse! If we had known in advance, we might have catered for that road better - a narrower car, perhaps. The owner not only did not mention the road but insisted on meeting us, on arrival, in the nearby town and guiding us to the farmhouse.
Another point is that Fernando, an excellent gardener and considerate 'host' spent all of every morning (he wanted to stay until 2 or 3pm but we negotiated slightly shorter hours) caring for the garden and the pool area so that we were not alone with our family as we had planned. We hired the property as a holiday home, not as a hotel.
It is a pity that neither the road nor the company every morning was mentioned in advance.
It speaks very well for the property that we still have very good memories of a lovely holiday. It is a beautiful building in a beautiful valley.

Beautiful special hideaway.
Beautiful, immaculate home from home. Everything you could need and more. Perfect. Thank you to Fernando who was very attentive where nothing was too much trouble.
Thank you Esther for your review.
You’ve been perfect guests.
Hope to see you again
been to a lot of villas - and this ranks very high indeed
Our stay at the villa in Madronera was wonderful. We were met in the village by Fernando and Luisa, who led the way down winding lanes to this haven of tranquillity. The house itself was superbly well-equipped, the rooms spacious and comfortable - (and all en-suite), as were the vaulted central room and kitchen. The best, though, was outside, where the garden, the pool (varying in depth from about 1.2m to about 1.75m), the seating areas, the chickens (and their eggs), Brown the dog, the fruit trees, and the meandering paths all made for a week of peace and relaxation. We could not - did not - hear any traffic, or any other sounds beyond those of bird song. Fernando turned up every morning to clean the pool, feed the dog, discuss Spain's consumption of pork products, and check on our well-being, and was full of helpful ideas - explaining local shopping, Trujillo, the markets, and even drawing us detailed maps telling us how to get to some natural pools an hour or so away. It was a fine, fine place, and we were made deeply welcome. A particular and special thank you to Fernando, one of life's true gentlemen.
Thank you very much for your review.
It is a present for us to know that you have enjoyed that much in the property and with the care of Fernando who’s the best. For my sister and I to.
Also we appreciate for you to be the kind of guest we love to be home.
You’ll always be welcome
Fantastic property in a fabulous location.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful property. We were a party of 10 - 4 adults and 6 children. There was plenty of room for everyone.
The huge garden was great for exploring and birdwatching.
The house was spotlessly clean with a well stocked kitchen, with everything you would need for cooking for a large group.
The children loved collecting fresh eggs every day.
Fernando was there every day to clean the pool and help with anything we needed. Nothing was too much for him. He suggested places to visit for day trips.
But the highlight of the holiday for the kids was when Fernando agreed to let Brown the dog come to play with us!
We hope to return to this fantastic property - maybe for longer next time as a week was not enough.
Thank you vert much for your great comment.
You have also been fantastic guests and we’ve been very pleased.
You can count on that you will always be welcome.
Wonderful house in calm mountain area
The house was really beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean (even in closets and cupboards). Plenty of space indoors, rooms and bathrooms for everyone. Huge and very well equipped kitchen for family cooking. Beautiful patio where we ate all of our meals. Great pool, wonderful garden with chicken and ducks (which gave us eggs), a vegetable garden (that gave us lettuce, tomatoes, strawberries etc.). The most helpful caretaker of the house, Fernando, who came every day to clean the pool etc. All in all we had an amazing stay!
Amazing house and pretty garden in a stunning area
This place is truly breathtaking. A huge but very homely house, beautifully restored and cared-for, with lovely traditional features alongside all the modern amenities and appliances you'd want for a very comfortable stay.
The house is set in stunningly pretty, very well tended, gardens with a gorgeous pool (with shaded poolside lounging area) and a veranda (with large table with overhead fan and BBQ) for outside dining, all nestled in a valley in the hills above Madronera.
We were a party of 4 adults and 3 kids and could relax in luxury there (with plenty of rooms to spare) for two weeks in this bit of paradise!
Christina, Luisa and Fernando were so kind, thoughtful and helpful with a very smooth booking to ensuring our stay was safe, extremely relaxing and comfortable. As another reviewer says they are always on hand but only if you need them.
Extremadura is beautiful with a unique landscape and abundant wildlife - nothing like we have seen before. The local people are very kind and gentle; the local food and produce delicious.
We would definitely recommend this house, and this area, to anyone who enjoys relaxing in peaceful luxury and exploring a varied, remote and inspirational landscape.
It certainly made for a very memorable holiday!
