Balorrin is ideal for a relaxing family holiday in the Highlands, set in picturesque surroundings only twenty minutes from Inverness. Built to a Swedish design and completely renovated to a high standard, the cottage offers spacious, modern and comfortable self-catering accommodation for six, with an open plan living and dining area, an enclosed garden and patio, and a ping pong table in the garage.

Situated five minutes by car from Muir of Ord, in the quiet hamlet of Aultgowrie, Balorrin is ideally located for unwinding in tranquil surroundings and touring the Northern Highlands.

The garden is frequented by red squirrels and pine martens, and there are two pairs of golden eagles in the nearby Strathconnon Glen. To the east there are dolphin watching opportunities along the coast.

The cottage is close to the River Orrin and a spectacular waterfall is within walking distance. As well as soaking up the peaceful surroundings, you can enjoy biking, angling, golf and distillery touring.

Other attractions include Loch Ness, Cawdor Castle and Glen Strathfarrar. Ullapool, Gairloch and the spectacular west coast are only an hour’s drive away.

Accommodation & Facilities

Master bedroom: king size bed with en-suite bathroom (shower over bath and WC) and an adjoining conservatory.

Two twin bedrooms: twin beds, black out blinds in all bedrooms. The twin bedrooms share the second bathroom, with bath, WC and separate shower.

Kitchen: well equipped with dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle etc. Adjoining utility room with large sink, washing machine/dryer, iron and board.

Dining/living area: spacious, bright, open-plan area with wood burning stove, Sky TV, DVD, CD player, WiFi (via dongle) plus a selection of books, games, puzzles and tourist brochures. Patio door leading to the back garden.

The double garage has a ping-pong table and two adult mountain bikes. The property has a large, garden and there is private parking for two cars.

All bed linen, towels, electricity, unlimited wood for the stove and parking are included in the price and the holiday home is stocked with a starter supply of kitchen and bathroom supplies as well as a starter pack of wood for the stove. A cot and high chair are available at no extra cost.

No smoking is permitted within the holiday home.

Pets are welcome, but please check in advance if bringing more than one.

Bookings are from Saturday 4pm to Saturday 10am.

Our second stay and again an excellent one

We stayed with 7 people for the first part of the week and there was still plenty of space. We love the layout of the house and it works really well for us, there was a minor problem with the boiler which was sorted out straight away ( great to see that if something needs fixing it is done so fast)

Country escape

The house was beautiful, comfortable, fully equipped and clean. The landlady was friendly, helpful and thoughtful. It was an excellent location for the towns and cities, but more importantly for us wonderfully slapped in the middle of nowhere. We wanted an escape, to walk in the hills. The landscape is stunning, which is clearly seen from the living room. It seemed better than home, we could have lived there.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting

Very spacious cottage with a good layout, and well equipped with everything that we needed. Balorrin has beautiful secluded gardens, and is well situated for exploring the countryside, coast, and nearby villages and towns and the city of Inverness.

A comfortable stay in a quiet Scottish hamlet.

A lovely light open plan living room, comfortable bedrooms and modern bathrooms made this a good venue for us. The kitchen was very well equipped and there was a pleasant garden with outside furniture. Unfortunately this year the midge problem was worse than it had been for some years so our sitting out time was curtailed. We will almost certainly book this property again

Heavenly peaceful

A beautiful holiday home in a truly wonderful location, if you want comfort in peace then this is for you. Located on a quiet road you can see nature (including deer) from the window.

The river Orin is just a 2 minute walk from the door & the falls of Orin approx a 10 mins walk away via the estate road and woods,

Would definitely stay at this property again.

Car: necessary

Follow the A9 north from Inverness, crossing the Kessock Bridge. At the first roundabout take the first left signposted to Muir of Ord. At the Muir of Ord junction go straight across to the traffic lights at the railway bridge. Turn left after the bridge on the A832, signposted to Ullapool. Turn left at the bottom of the hill just before the Glen Ord Distillery and continue along the single track road for about 3 miles. When you reach the Aultgowrie sign Balorrin is the second home on your left.
