A well-equipped, cosy cottage in tranquil surroundings

  • 4 of 5

As a family of 5 we found the house to be the perfect size and pretty well-equipped for a family holiday. The log burner and recliner sofa were bliss in the evenings and the showers are incredible! The enclosed back garden meant we could let our boys (aged 10, 8 & 3) out to burn off some energy without having to be outside ourselves. We all enjoyed the walk up Glen Orrin which starts right next to the house and is about 6km in total. It was also exciting to spot a red kite circling over the trees on that walk! We appreciated the quick visit from the owner, who lives nearby, to check everything was ok. It was good to know she was on hand but wasn't intrusive in any way. There were very few negatives about the house, but we were disappointed to find the wifi needs to be paid for - although the website stated it was via a dongle, so we weren't expecting a hugely strong or fast signal, there was no mention of having to pay extra for it. From previous experience most cottages in this price bracket include free, unlimited wifi and I'd imagine most people expect that nowadays. Some of the furniture and games were a bit old and well used, although that didn't detract from their usefulness. The only other thing is chopping boards! There were only two wooden bread boards; a couple of plastic ones would be a great addition as it felt a bit wrong cutting raw meat on a wooden board. Overall though a lovely place where we enjoyed a really relaxing family break away from it all. We'd definitely recommend it.

tired

  • 4 of 5

Late in the season so maybe a bit tired looking. Oven needs some attention. Looked very clean when first entering the cottage but later find a few problems with cleanliness.

Spacious, well equipped property.

  • 4 of 5

We have stayed in Balorrin before and will do so again. It is a spacious well equipped property and is convenient for my husband who fishes the Conon. We would prefer a Sunday to Sunday let for that reason. Having taken our son and his family with us this time, the wifi arrangements proved very expensive!! We would prefer a fixed system, even if it meant a slightly higher rental charge.

Beautiful Holiday House

  • 5 of 5

The house is spacious, comfortable and well located. There is plenty to see and to do (dolphin watching, mountain biking, walking), the next supermarket is not far away and the garden is great for playing football. The table tennis in the garage was used every day. Whenever coming back to Scotland, this is our first choice.

Cosy Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed a week at Balorrin with our dog, Nico, who loved the local walks on the doorstep (there is an excellent dog walk starting right outside the back door). The cottage is well equipped which meant the usual extras that we bring (such as sharp knives for cooking) were just not needed. It's a great place to relax yet close to local amenities in Muir of Ord (great butcher) and places of interest. I think we will be back.

Our second stay and again an excellent one

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with 7 people for the first part of the week and there was still plenty of space. We love the layout of the house and it works really well for us, there was a minor problem with the boiler which was sorted out straight away ( great to see that if something needs fixing it is done so fast)
