Sparrow's Nest is less than 2 miles from the beaches at Dawlish and Dawlish Warren and the ferry to Exmouth. The views to the Haldon hills over open fields are lovely. The cottage is surrounded by farmland; your only neighbours are us.

Few areas can offer such beautiful and interesting places to visit within such a short distance.

The cottage has one double bedroom (dual aspect) and one twin (each bedroom with especially comfortable mattresses and non-allergenic bedding), a lounge (with TV and DVD player), dining room, kitchen (with cooker, washing machine, fridge with small freezer box, and microwave), bathroom (with a Mira electric over-bath shower), cloakroom and outhouse (for your buckets and spades and fishing nets!) N.B Rather steep stairs.

The pretty gardens at the side and back are enclosed and safe for children or a dog. There's a picnic table and ample off-road parking in front of the cottage.

The cottage is non-smoking and one small well-behaved dog is allowed by arrangement. We have a large field that you may use for dog-walking or just enjoying.

A travel cot can be made available.

Electricity is included.

Bedding, towels and tea-towels are provided.

Wi-fi is available.

We are 2 miles from Dawlish, 1.5 from Dawlish Warren, 1.5 from the Starcross ferry to Exmouth, and 9 miles from Exeter,

There are Railway stations at Dawlish, Dawlish Warren and Starcross and 1 minute away are bus stops for Dawlish or Exeter directions.

Within 0.5 mile there is a Sainsbury's supermarket and petrol station.

Sparrow's Nest is on a Devon County Wildlife Site. Cirl Bunting birds are special here but watch for badgers, foxes and occasional deer and other wildlife.

The south west coast path is close, as is the internationally important Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve and River Exe estuary.

By early summer 2017 the new country park should be open less than 5 minutes ' walk from here. It'll allow a short route to Dawlish Warren

There are boat trips from Dawlish. and Exmouth, a ferry also from Teignmouth to Shaldon for it's quaint streets, small zoo and smugglers' tunnel to a secluded beach...

There are theatres in Dawlish, Teignmouth, Torquay and Exeter.

Come and stay and find your own wonderful places to visit and things to do, or just enjoy relaxing in the garden of Sparrow's Nest!

Another enjoyable Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here in Sept 2016 and enjoyed it so much that we returned in June 2017.

The Cottage was exactly as we remembered it (including sunny weather all week), so not much to add since the last review.

Although it was hot when we stayed it was close enough to the sea, to get a sea breeze in the afternoons. The Wi-fi seemed stronger than before but not sure if that is because we have newer devices or the signal has improved - but we didnt have any issues using it.

The gardens were immaculate and we enjoyed playing cricket in the field behind the house every evening. Again everything was working and it was a pleasant stay. We still have not been to all the attractions in the area. Despite some of the beach at Dalish Warren being redeveloped, the beaches at Dawlish, Teignmouth and Babbacombe / Torquay were all close by. Mr and Mrs Lockton once again provided milk, cream teas, Tea, coffee, sugar and squash on arrival which we all enjoyed. Thanks to Mr Lockton for the flower seeds, our garden will apreciate them! Hope to come again in the future.

Owner's Response: It was lovely having you to stay again and so nice to see you all enjoying the field even though the grass has yet to be cut. You were so lucky with the weather; we've just had 4 very rainy days in Cornwall! Thank you for your lovely review.

Spacious, very clean, thoughtfully equipped house.

  • 4 of 5

The location of the property is good for visiting moors and beaches.

Lovely towns nearby.

Cottage is spacious and clean with lots of handy extra's such as adapters for visitors from the continent, thermosflasks, lots of information about the area.

Very friendly and caring owners.

Good views over the hills from the backgarden.

We had to adapt to the speed of the wifi and the low water pressure. Apart from that a perfect stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your honest review. Yes the low water pressure and small water tank do cause inconvenience and yes the wi-fi signal is poor and slow. It was lovely to meet you all and know that despite the problems you enjoyed your stay.

Lovely cottage with wonderful garden views

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a lovely week at Sparrow's Nest. The cottage is well laid out and very comfortable. The cream tea on arrival was most welcome and, along with the other little extras, made our stay all the more enjoyable. We did struggle with the tv signal initially (on all channels except the BBC), however. we did manage to solve this ourselves. The wifi was touch and go, although, we did find the chair nearest the TV was the best place to pick it up. The only other downside related to the rules regarding dogs as it was quite challenging our Yorkie not being allowed upstairs or on the furniture as he always takes time getting used to a new environment and was constantly seeking reassurance.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your honest review. I'm sorry you had trouble with the TV. I'd not been aware of any problem but glad you managed to solve it. We would have come to help if you'd asked. Yes, the wi-fi signal isn't great unfortunately. We do have strict rules about dogs which are in the booking conditions before booking and although maybe difficult for some owners it's for the comfort of other guests as there's no time between guests to wash furniture covers. With washable floors downstairs and carpets upstairs, requiring dogs to stay downstairs is for the same reason. However, I'm glad you had an enjoyable stay and we'd love to see you back again.

Well equipped house in a peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

A very enjoyable stay here. The house has everything you need and Carol and Barry are excellent hosts who are happy to help if needed. The property has a lovely garden with uninterrupted countryside views. This is a perfect house for exploring Dawlish and the surrounding areas- it's close to Dawlish but also out of town so only pheasants and ducks as neighbours!. Highly recommended.

Comfortable getaway cottage

  • 4 of 5

Friendly, helpful welcome from Barry & Carol. It was so nice to have space to spare, warm rooms and comfortable chairs and bed. Everywhere was clean. The kitchen was well equipped. Having a bath, not just a shower, is a plus, though we hope that the slow water pressure is sorted out before we visit again. Lovely country views, including the pheasants and ducks in the back garden.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I'm glad you found the bed and chairs comfortable. The water pump when turned on in the airing cupbord does increase the water pressure hugely; I'm so sorry if you hadn't realised this. What a shame about the weather whilst you were staying..... Do return one day when it's sunny!
