Great Fishing, Swimming, & Relaxing: Enjoy spectacular sunrises over Big Chetac Lake and then relax with a cold one to enjoy the sunset over a small private lake. The deck has a built in fire pit and gazebo to enjoy outdoor living to the fullest and the view can't be beat! The master bedroom has its own private deck with views of both lakes. The heavily wooded lot is 2.9 acres and there is tons of room to explore in the adjacent county land. Fish Big Chetac or enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the small lake behind the house. Great fishing on Big Chetac over 2000 acres to explore!
Interior Remodel for the Up North Feeling: The home was completely remodeled in 2008 with pine tongue and groove siding in the living room and one of the bedrooms. There is also new carpet and hard wood floors throughout house. The kitchen has been remodeled and has a dishwasher and a extra large farm sink. The bathrooms have also been updated with ceramic tile throughout. The basement was completed in 2012 adding a 3rd bathroom, log futon, gas stove fireplace, and dish network on large tv.
Big Chetec is a great lake for recreation and fishing with over 2,000 acres of 'boatable' water to explore. There are multiple places on the lake to rent fishing boats or pontoons so that you can enjoy the sand bar on the lake as well as a couple of islands to explore and potentially camp on. The property has 700ft of wooded lake shore with a dock for your boat and for swimming. You will need to cross the road to get to the Big Chetec Lake front but it will be worth it!
This is a great place to come any time of year with nearby attractions in Birchwood, Hayward, Spooner, and Rice Lake. The cabin is surrounded by many ATV/Snowmobile trails to enjoy and you will love exploring the wooded lot.
If you prefer to stay at home you can enjoy a ping pong table and air hockey in the basement. You can also choose to snuggle up with a good book on either of the decks of in the cozy living room.

Birkie Weekend Stay
Had a great time at the cabin during Birkie weekend up in Hayward. We did not get to spend too much time at the place with the ski race going on, but the cabin was gorgeous and everything was spacious and comfortable. Only thing that would've been nice to have was Wi-Fi, as our cell coverage was spotty, but it's understandable with limited renters probably during the winter. Hope to be back next year for Birkie 2019!
Thanks for your review. We would love to you have back again. Most likely next year we will have internet year round. We are thinking of adding this along with wifi tv instead of dish tv and just having internet on all year long. FYI AT&T seems to work the best of any provider in that area. T-Mobile appears to be second best followed by spotty reception for Verizon and Sprint.
Ice Fishing trip
Overall the house was very nice. I have no complaints on the house. We came to ice fish Chetac. We were really hoping to drive ATVs out on to the ice from the house. That is not possible as County F and a steep bank separate the house from the lake. The other downfall is the closest boat landing is on the opposite side of the lake, a good 20-25 minute drive (on snowy roads). Also, keep in mind the driveway is very steep with minimal room to turn trucks around hauling ATV trailers. I would like to try to house in the summer, but would not try to haul a boat trailer up and down that driveway.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for coming. In the past we have just parked our snowmobile down in front of the house, but I understand wanting to have it not left in the open. In the winter there is another entry to the lake which is a shorter drive on the south east side of the lake. Also in the summer there is room to park trailers down by the road. I do hope you can come back in the summer.
Great communication, beautiful house
Same as above
Nice big private house, plenty of room. Access to two lakes: the first, Big Lake Chetac, the second, a small private lake. Both require a bit of a walk down a steep hill -- the private lake is down a narrow dirt nature trail and is fairly steep -- but both are absolutely worth it, as they are beautiful. Canoes are available on both lakes, kayaks on Lake Chetac. No problems at all -- owner was very responsive to my emails. We're already looking forward to coming back with our kids and some friends in the future! Recommended!
This cabin is comfortable and spacious enough however, a few things came up that was disappointing.
· Secluded area/quiet. Nice location and a close drive to town. AC works well.
· Nice foosball and ping pong table. Large deck area with fire pit and comfortable chairs outside. Gorgeous back private lake with fishing boat for use. Canoes and Kayaks provided for use. Comfortable beds with extra linens, sheets, etc. Comfortable sofas and futon/sleepers. Open kitchen– kitchen is clean, well-lighted and all amenities worked well. Clean fridge, stove, cabinets, etc. Large kitchen table. Washer and dryer was a plus. Cabin iniside is clean. Maintenance contact is easy to get a hold of and is responsive.
· Two members of our group got bed bug bites/rashes during our stay. They slept in the same bedroom/bed. We notified the owner of this after our visit when our family members went to urgent care to get their rashes looked at. Wish the owner would've offered some reimbursement but did not. Unfortunate.
· There are three sliding doors; none of them locks, so we did not feel completely secure. Two of the sliding doors goes directly outside. The sliding doors are secured at the bottom by propping a wood piece in it so that you cannot slide it.
· Main level and lower level are really two separate living areas. You have to go through lower level and two flights of small stairs to get to the main level. It is difficult especially when you are bringing food and items into the cabin.
· Limited toiletry, hand soap, trash bags, and paper towels are provided – bring your own stuff as well, especially if you have a large group. We had 11 people during our four-night rental.
· The garbage dumpster was full upon arrival –the dumpster gets cleaned out twice a month. If the dumpster is full, you leave trash on the side of the dumpster.
Laundry detergent is not provided. Well water has a strong pungent iron smell – bring water to cook with, if this will bother you.
•Not a lot of outside/space area for kids to play around – apart from deck area.
•Deck area was full of debris upon our arrival – many spider webs everywhere which we cleaned out. Many twigs, leaves and branches, which we cleared out.
•There was a bee’s nest behind the grill, which we were unaware, and one of our family members got stung. Grill outside seems greasy and dirty so we used it once only. The gazebo was not clean, so we did not get to enjoy it and/or use it during our stay. Some areas of the carpet in the lower level of the cabin was drenched with water when we arrived.
Thank you for your detailed response.
Unfortunately a prior guest had left some bed bugs. As soon as I become aware of this, I had our cleaner inspect. Initially she could not find any. After doing more research we were able to figure out how to find them. On her second time searching she was able to find them. At this time everything was taken out of the room and treated with appropriate bed bug killers. We removed the old bed frame and will have a new queen bed frame in this room in the next few weeks. We wanted to wait to put the new furniture in the room until we were sure they were all gone. We have not had any more bedbugs since the multiple treatments.
We replaced the grill in September 2017. There is laundry detergent in the closet next to the washing machine and we replaced the dryer in the fall of 2017.
We take all reviews serious and try to make changes and improvements each year.
Exactly as stated online. The back lake really needs to be seen. The house was beautiful.
The back lake is a hidden jewel. We had a lot of fun catching fish in L Chetac. Yes, we would rent from Jon again. He was very good to work with.
Thank you Jon
Thanks for your stay. We do hope that you will be back again soon. We love the back lake as well.
