About Mary Derrick

My husband is a graduate of The Citadel in Charleston. We are both South Carolinians. Though we live 3 hours north of Charleston, it has always been a place to visit and enjoy throughout our marriage. We purchased the unit after years of being renters in Wild Dunes.

Why Mary Derrick chose Charleston Area

We wanted to be on the beach. We also wanted to be in an area where the density was at a minimum, so finding a beach front condo that isn't in a high rise on beach front was a challenge, and this is the result of our search. We also liked the idea of having Historic Charleston so near by. The shopping and restaurants are wonderful, and it takes 30- 45 minutes to get there, based on the traffic. Our out of state friends could easily fly to the local airport, and be at the condo in approximately 30 minutes from the airport.

What makes this townhome unique

We enjoy the beach, listing to the surf, and just taking it easy. Our daughter loves to play tennis, and our relatives with children love the versatility of the pool and proximity to the ocean. Although we don't golf, many of our relatives and guests do, and have told us that this is one of the most scenic golf courses they have played.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stay in 58 Beach Club Villa in the summer, but this was the first time for a Fall visit, and it was great! We had the beach to ourselves, weather was very plesant, and we enjoyed the location and tranquility. We've always found this unit to be clean, comfortable and owners very accommodating. The owners go the extra mile in equipping the kitchen. It isn't slick and fancy, but very clean, comfortable and feels like home. 5 stars!

Another excellent stay at 58 BCV

  • 4 of 5

I give the place my highest rating. I have been coming to Isle of Palms and Wild Dunes since 1983. We have stayed several places in that time. However, my family (wife, son, daughter in law, granddaughter and I) have stayed in this same property on Wild Dunes every time since we discovered it in 2013, which is more than once per year. We have been here summers and also either spring or fall. I love the homey feeling and location. It is perfect for the pool and beach. Mary is a very good landlord who keeps up the place and makes a few changes every year with updates. We adore the screened porch, especially on rainy days. The pool was reworked this Spring when we were here and we really enjoyed the pool during the week in June we just finished. If you are new to her location, she allows each renter to leave condiments and basic supplies, so you may not have to travel with mustard, ketchup, sugar, spices, etc. and they or similar items are available. She leaves restaurant menus for use. It is a short walk to the tennis complex and kids playground. In colder months, the heated pool at the center is available. If you need tech, the wifi is good and we have had three phones and two iPads going at the same time. I do not give five stars to any place but I like it so much, I am tempted. Jim

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Our experience was great staying in this villa. Access to the pool and beach were great. Views from the screened in porch made for a spectacular start to the day while having coffee. The villa is well equipped for your needs if you chose to cook in or even grill out. Beach and pool supplies stored under the porch provided for a lot of fun for the grandchildren and even the adults. We had plenty of room for the 6 of us, beds were very comfortable and bathrooms while a little dated were fine. This place ended up being everything advertised and more.

Great place for my family

  • 5 of 5

We have 3 small kids and it was the perfect set up for us. Walk to the pool and beach, great space inside the condo, and the shower below was perfect. Mary was amazing and the place is set up to feel like home. I recommend it to anyone.

Great location, very nice owner

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a ladies' weekend and had a lovely time. The condo is very roomy and the bedrooms feel large. It has a very nice screened in porch where you can see the ocean and the pool. It is a very short walk from the porch, through the pool and to the beach. I especially like the idea of the slip covers and the washable white bedding. It made the condo feel very clean. Great property!

Beach Bungalow

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 58 Beach Club Villas. The beach is so close and great for walking or biking. The pool is just steps form the screened in porch. The porch is like another room to just sit and enjoy reading or a relaxing moment. This unit is so close to all that Wild Dunes has to offer including golf, tennis, shopping, restaurants, taverns, biking and beach combing.

Marry was a gracious host. We threw her a curve during our stay and requested another day's stay. She responded quickly and made the appropriate arrangements to make this happen. We are very grateful for her quick response.

I enthusiastically recommend staying here.

Wonderful, relaxing stay with an unbelievable view

  • 5 of 5

We've been renting places for 20 years, and this is one of our best experiences. While I'd originally thought we'd spend a lot of time in downtown Charleston, the beach view, ocean breezes and wave sounds were so appealing that we spent much of the entire week just relaxing. The master bedroom with sliding door was great. I'd leave the door wide open at night (screened), and wake in the morning to the rising sun over the ocean waves. If that doesn't lower your blood pressure for the day, nothing will.

I'm a distance runner, and while the beach isn't my thing, there were plenty of stretches of beach available. I ran sidewalks (mostly paved, not concrete), and easily did a 15 mile run with only 2 turns. For the rest of the family, when we wanted to go explore Charleston, we were 20 minutes from Patriot's Point (Fort Sumter tours, sailboat excursions, Segway tours, and the aircraft carrier Yorktown - CV10). Only 30 minutes, and we were downtown, with horse-drawn carriage rides, ghost walks, and sweetgrass basket shopping. Oh, and don't worry about grocery shopping. The Harris Teeter right on Isle of Palms was very adequate to all our needs. If you haven't already, you should try their unique coconut & pecan cookies.

Mary (owner) was very attentive, communicating frequently before and early in the stay. We had zero problems, and would return without question.
