About Mark Helfers
My family of four boys live in St. Louis, Mo and we have been vacationing in northern Michigan since 1989. After trying several areas we tried Glen Arbor, staying in houses around the area. When we first rented at the Homestead Condominiums in 1998. We zeroed in on this particular condominium because it is everything we wanted. When it went up for sale in 2004 we knew we just had to buy it and actually worked out details when we were there on our August vacation.
Mark Helfers purchased this Condo in 2004
Why Mark Helfers chose Leelanau County
This place is our dream. The views are spectacular, it has plenty of space for our family which has now been expanded by 4 grandchildren. The kids grew up on the absolutely beautiful beach and in the pristine Crystal River. For all the years we have been going up north, every year we find something new. None of the family has ever been bored - it is impossible! There is something for everyone.
What makes this Condo unique
Our condo is in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Seashores Park. Glen Arbor is 1/2 mile south of us. It really is a spectacular place. Some of the sand dunes are the highest in the world and you can climb up and down them if you dare. The views from 15–20 stories high are unbelievable and the colors of the water and surrounding area are just incredible. If your family likes bike riding it is considered the best area in Michigan for bike riding. There is the famous M 22 route but also the Heritage Trail, a 15 mile bike trail that winds through the woods and at times along the seashore north and south of Glen Arbor. It is mostly flat with no steep hills so easy bike riding for a family. There is a wonderful bike shop in town that rents bikes at a very reasonable price. If you like canoeing the idyllic Crystal River winds its way from big Glen Lake to Lake Michigan and passes right behind our condo. The water is crystal clear, only 1 – 4 feet deep and about 20 feet wide. Canoe rentals are right across from the bike shop. Big Glen Lake and Little Glen Lake are connected and have a surface area of over 6000 acres, from 130 feet to 13 feet deep. The watercolor is absolutely gorgeous and considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the Great Lakes Region. Plenty of boating, fishing, water skiing and tubing. In the fall salmon and steelhead trout spawn in the Crystal River. These fish are 12 -30 inches and weigh up to 35 pounds. It really is a wonderful sight to see. Farm houses from 150 years old are preserved in the park so the rolling scenery is just pristine and as it was 150 years ago. The hiking trails are too many to count but you won't find any that are boring.

Lovely condo with spectacular views
Everything about this South Beach condo was wonderful. It is spacious, tastefully decorated and the unobstructed views of Lake Michigan are breathtaking. The owner has provided everything for the guests' comfort: nice linens, beach towels and chairs and a fully equipped kitchen. Nothing is lacking.
We often found it hard to tear ourselves away from the mesmerizing views of the lake and the freighters passing the Manitou Islands. There is, however, so much to do in the area from tennis and the beach to hiking and biking and exploring the rich history and wildlife of the area that the activities usually won out except at sunset time.
This condo was perfect in all respects and we cannot recommend it more highly.
Thank you for your great review. I am very glad you enjoyed our place so much. My family has been going to Glen Arbor for over 25 years and nobody is ever bored- there truly are hundreds of activities, something for everyone. The town residents are always thinking forward. They were instrumental in establishing the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail bike path that winds over 20 miles through the woods and along Lake Michigan and is expanding more every year. Trail hiking is endless also.
Great accommodations, great views and great times
We stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. The condo is spacious, clean, modern and well kept. The views are beautiful. It overlooks Lake Michigan and is a short walk to the nice sandy beach. Over the years we have stayed at various places at the Homestead and around Glen Lake, and this is easily one of the nicest places we've stayed. All four bedrooms were nice and to have 3 full bathrooms was a real bonus. The unit is up a few flights of stairs, but it was not a problem for my young daughter or elderly parents.
View awesome and condo was clean
Great view of Lake Michigan with a clean condo and the amenities that you need to enjoy a week away from home!
We have a family fall color tour weekend every year and this was our destination this year. This was a perfect place for us with our kids and grandkids. The condo had everything we needed and was in a great location with many choices of things to do and see. We have many cherished memories of our trip together. Would highly recommend!! The owner was great to work with.
Great location and accommodations - beautiful beach
We had a great weekend getaway - this condo is very well set up - beach chairs, internet connection, beach towels and games for the kids, etc. Kitchen well set up - everything was just very convenient! Very clean and well maintained, and great views and very close to the beach. We were there in October so it was very quiet and peaceful. The area is just spectacular. Highly recommended!!!
Great location - beautiful beach
Our family of 9 enjoyed a week at this condo - 7 adults and 2 very young children. It was well equipped with everything we needed. Very clean and up to date. We have loved the Glen Arbor area for all of our lives and enjoy coming back every year. Plenty of things to do with Sleeping Bear, Traverse City, Leland all less than 30 minutes away.
