The home is a beautiful mountain (large) cottage with plenty of kitchen, dining, and living space. The bedrooms were large with nice decor. Everything was clean and well maintained. The grounds are spectacular with areas to sit and relax or hike and play in the creek. We were treated with a snowy day to the delight of the grandkids! The town is quaint and welcoming - fun to poke about in the shops and local eateries. A very nice getaway!
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review,
It is a big help.
So happy to hear you had a great time and even had snow.
Beautiful Cabin with perfect creek access
We stayed here with 2 other families and a couple friends over spring break and it was just lovely! The terraced gentle slop down to the creek was the perfect place for our kids (ages 4-7) to play and explore, and being able to watch them from the deck was a wonderful bonus! The only thing is I wish I had paid closer attention to the listing of beds, I was thinking that "sleeps 14" meant that there was bed space for 14 and we invited the 3rd family at the last minute. But there is actually only bed space for 9 in the main house - though there are air mattresses and a crib and the couches are definitely comfy enough for a teenager to sleep on (or a snoring dad in our case!), so we ended up needing to rent the extra cabin as well to make sure we had enough beds for everyone. The listing is specific about the size, number, and location of beds - I just didn't read it closely when I booked, so it still gets 5 stars from me. The kitchen is well appointed and had everything we needed for cooking for a group, and Mary Ann was very helpful when we needed to find a key for the hot tub. Overall it was a wonderfully relaxing week.
Thank you for taking the time to write.
You were such lovely guests and very welcome for a return visit.
Through the years we have rented houses all over from Yosemite, Sequoia, all around Mexico, Costa Rica...and never had a bad luck. This one was a first! On the good side: 1) the location is ideal 2) the little creek in the back is nice 3) it is very quiet. On the bad side: the house is horrendous. The pictures are 100% better than the reality. This house is in need of a mega face lift and make over. It is completely run down, dusty and depressing. It smells like death. There are fake flowers faded and sad all over the place. The rugs and furniture are stained. The kitchen is a disaster. I actually had to clean and reorganize the cupboards. There are so many broken things form the oven handle, the toilet paper roll holders, etc... After having signed our life away on all "the rules" (tons of paperwork, signature and initials), we could not even get the garage door open to access the ping pong table. There are a bunch of rules for the Jacuzzi too...we never got to use it because it is away from the house and difficult to access. The house doesn't have central heat. If you go in the winter be prepared to burn a lot of wood and have to plug a bunch of smelly space heaters all over the place. Also, I suggest you bring your own bedding and pillows. This was our once a year "woodsy" vacation and this house ruined our trip. We will not be returning. Sorry!
Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us a review. I must say I am surprised and saddened to hear about your experience and very critical assessment of our lovely mountain home. As small business owners we work very hard to maintain the property. We just had the entire house painted inside a this fall 2017. In addition, we installed a brand new heating system this winter. The Jacuzzi, which overlooks the stream, did not come with the house when we purchased the property. It was installed as an amenity for our guests and we installed a second stair case as well as an overhead shelter to ensure our guests could use it easily in all types of weather. I am sorry to hear you chose not to enjoy it. We understand that not everyone appreciates the aesthetics of silk flowers. It is a decorating choice we made as live plants did not survive when there were vacancies. We really did try to make live plants work. We leave space heaters all of which are recently purchased available as another amenity to our guests as not everyone likes the rooms at the same temperature. If there was an odor that was untenable or even just unpleasant when you entered the property, we would have appreciated immediate notification so that we could investigate the issue immediately and rectify the situation. In addition, not being able to turn on the heater nor access the garage door would have also been things that should have been brought to our attention immediately. It is confusing that we were not notified of an issue of smell or no heat in the middle of winter until after your stay. We have staff who live in Idyllwild who would have been available to address these types of issues had we been given a chance in the moment rather than after you had checked out of the property. In addition, we have staff that professionally cleans the house every time our guests check out and prepares the property for new guests who will be staying with us. Their services include laundering the linens and making up the beds, which includes putting sheets on the bed as well as pillows on the pillow cases to ensure our guests can relax when they arrive. We will discuss your concerns about the kitchen, any unaddressed stains or broken items with the house keeping staff. We appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention as we are always looking for ways to improve. Thank you again for your feedback. Sincerely, Elite Mountain Homes.
Had a wonderful weekend in this lovely cabin. Had 11 people, and all fit easily. We cooked and cooked and cooked - plenty of space in the kitchen (although the oven is narrow and doesn't fit most cookie or baking sheets). Sound of wind in the trees and babble in the brook. We'd be happy to return.
Thank you so much for your kind comments.
