This home was built circa. 1808 and has some of the finest examples of architecture and details fashionable in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. You will be staying one short block from the French Quarter and one block from Bourbon Street. Our cottage is luxuriously furnished and elegantly decorated, having antiques from the mid to late 1800’s.
THE HISTORY OF THIS AMAZING HOME
This elegantly decorated Creole Cottage built, “of columbage and bricked between post” circa. 1808, is one of the rarest examples of early Creole cottage architecture remaining to date. This home is in the first subdivision of New Orleans named Faubourg Marigny. The plantation was subdivided in March 16 1806. This home retains almost all of its original architectural features including; its rare Ram’s horn hinges and original latches on the French glass doors.
More history of property.: There are also very outstanding long latches which were used to open and close the doors. The ceilings are original and are “dressed and beaded” which are rare to find intact to day. The mantels are the most distinguishing interior elements in Creole domestic architecture. Two of the mantels are box mantels in the style dating from the late 1700’s to 1810 with columns supporting a frieze having strong horizontal moldings. The floors are beautiful large plank and the original moldings are intact. This property was sold to one of the first women of color to purchase property in the United States. Madame Magdalene Baure’ purchased three lots which now form the sites of 1426 and 1434 Burgundy and of 928, 930 and 934 Kerlerec. This property now has 4 other cottages, two of which were believed to be very early barge board cottages from the early 1800’s most likely moved here at a later date.

Why Trinna Thompson, Manager or Scott Thompson, Owner chose Faubourg Marigny
Living in Nashville TN we decided we Loved New Orleans so much that we could not stay away. Renting Hotels or an Apartment once a Month was not working. So we bought our first Guest House in year 2000 in the 2300 block of Royal Street. We then decided that we very much enjoyed the experience of owning a guest house. So when the opportunity to Purchase The Kerlerec House in early 2004 arose we did so, and never looked back. Not to say that Katrina did not give us a major tail spin. But we persevered and looked ahead. There are regular guests that have been staying at The Kerlerec Guest House since 1998 and come every year for Jazz Fest as well as for other events. These people are the reason that we love the ownership of our Guest House.

Disappointed with the condition of the property
We knew that this was an old house but it is not being maintained at an acceptable level. We had several issues, for example (1) the toilet seat in the bathroom upstairs in the Main House was totally disconnected on one side and it took two days to have it replaced. (2) The sharp end of a nail was sticking out of the front door about inch, three feet off the ground. We had four children staying in the house for whom it could have been a significant issue and we had to deal with it ourselves by covering it with gauze and tape. (3) There was no functioning smoke alarm in the kitchen; we could see the open guts of the alarm in the ceiling. (4) There were exposed uninsulated electrical wires in at least two of the buildings - Jazz Club and the French Quarter Suite. There were other issues of a similar nature. We contacted the owner about some of the issues and the only one that was resolved was the toilet seat. It was a job that took about 5 minutes to fix, once the new toilet seat was purchased. It should not have taken two days.
We would not recommend this place to anyone.
Best Bachelor Party Ever
The property is amazing!! Classic french maison style. Hosted a bachelor party for 20 and everyone was able to sleep very comfortable. Fantastic outside commons areas. Plenty of AC units for warm days. Best part: only one block from Bourbon St. Having so many great places within walking distances was ideal for such a large group, saving us hundreds in Uber costs :) I spoke with Scott on the phone as we arrived. Very nice and hospitable! Would recommend the property to anyone!
Large group visit - Feb 2018
Most of our group was from CA and had never visited NOLA. We were all pleasantly surprised by the mini-village atmosphere that the Kerlerec House provided us along with the charm of the place. Close proximity to Frenchmen, Bourbon and even the waterfront and downtown area if you’re not scared of a little exercise. We’ll definitely be back one day soon.
Disaster and disappointed
This house was not like the pictures. We went for my bachelorette and we were very disappointed. We arrived to a very unprofessional maintenance man. They said the maid cleaned, but that was not the case. When we toured the house there were dirty pillows, dirty pillow cases, broken doors, broken hot tub, leaking ceilings-two, Door didn’t lock, not as many showers and bathrooms were usable as said, owner was hard to get a hold of when these problems were happening. We still haven’t got our deposit back and it’s been over a week. We would like a refund.
Historic Home in a Great Location
I rented this home for 3 nights to host 17 guests of my destination wedding and a little welcome party for people flying in from different states. There was plenty of space, tables and chairs for guests and a grill in the back. The hosts had party supplies like cups, plates and forks already stocked for us and cooking utensils as well. The home is over 200 years old and shows it's age, but there is so much character that it's easy to appreciate all of the old architecture and furniture. I picked the home mainly for the location as it's within walking distance of Frenchman St and the Ruby Slipper Cafe. I would stay again as I can never get enough of Frenchman St.
Great historic house in a quiet neighborhood
Kerlerec Guest house consists of a main house with three detached cottages. The house was built in 1808 so it has definite old house charm and quirks. This was a great setup for our large group, we had 16 people but would have been comfortable with several more. It is a short walk into the heart of the French Quarter, which gives you all the charm without all the noise and drunks. There were several restaurants within 2 or 3 blocks of the house, we especially liked Horns for interesting cocktails and all day brunch with the standards but also a pulled pork cornbread waffle and great vegetarian options. If you want a standard grocery store I would head to Whole Foods, the markets very close by are small and have a limited selection of food but a vast array of adult beverage choices. The owner is very knowledgeable about the house. We had 16 adults in our party and one very small baby so the cottage set-up was great for privacy with enough room in the kitchen and dining room to all sit together for meals. We also enjoyed the courtyards and the hot tub, we spent a pleasant evening outside waiting for the hurricane that never came!
Sleeps 1 to 32, Bachelor & Bachelorette Parties, Family Reunions, Etc. The Kerlerec House is conveniently located one short block from the French Quarter and only one block from world famous Bourbon Street. It is located at the center of all New Orleans has to offer, the local scene on Frenchman Street, as well as all the amazing tourist attractions. You will be staying just a short walk to some of the most famous restaurants in the world. Experience New Orleans day or night as a local would in one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. Enjoy three wonderfully lush courtyards and other sitting areas or relax in our Jacuzzi hot tub. Other Activities: Audobon; Aquarium, Isectarium, Zoo & Park.
