Located 600 feet above the majestic Pacific Ocean, this island hideaway on the north shore of Oahu is private, cool and quiet. Placed at the end of a small road, the lush tropical setting is one acre of mature banana, avocado, and fruit trees set among gorgeous flowers and a beautiful yard. The rock wall pool and hot tub have a soothing waterfall built in and a view of the ocean. Enjoy a glass of wine at day's end while soaking away. Completely different than the concrete towers of Waikiki, yet close enough to be accessible, the north shore of Oahu is the perfect place to enjoy Hawaii.
I live on the property and will try to greet you when you arrive. Please plan to arrive and check in no later than 10pm. If you happen to arrive in Honolulu on a flight at or after 8pm, then I would recommend staying in town your first night.
Located in the country, on residential/agricultural land, the property is very quiet, especially at night. It is therefore imperative that all guests honor the need for quiet between 10pm and 7am. If star gazing is on your list of things to do, on a clear night they are highly visible in the neighborhood that is void of street lights. If however, you prefer the night time party scene, then this is not the place for you!
Garage parking is an added bonus, included in your stay. Even on a rainy day or night you can stay dry as you go on and off the property. Just be certain you are not driving an oversized vehicle, or you will not have a place to park!
The unit is equipped for up to 6 guests. In an effort to encourage smaller parties and make it economical for 1-2 guests, I charge a flat rate for up to 2 guests and $25/person/night additional for more than 2. The high cost of utilities in Hawaii drives the need for the fees for the additional guests. Just part of the price we pay to live in paradise!
My partner and I traveled to Oahu to celebrate our 20 year anniversary. When we arrived to the property we were amazed by the natural beauty we were surrounded with. From the agriculture to the wild life to the view of the ocean from the lanai as well as the lovely additions to include a pool and jacuzzi you simply cannot go wrong with this rental. You can tell that a lot of time, effort and loving care was put into this property. The interior consists of a 2 bedroom, 1 bath with a living/dining area and small kitchen. It was perfect for the two of us but can imagine it would be perfect for a small family as well. I highly recommend this quiet tropical retreat and would definitely return.
Accomodation on Oahu seems to be more expensive with less selection than on the other islands, so we were very lucky to find a place like Carolyn's, a large, beautifully landscaped and very private property on the north shore, at such a reasonable rate.
There is ample space in the ground level apartment (though the kitchen is a bit tight), but you'll be spending almost all of your time outside on the lanai or in the pool and hot tub, which, by the way, were wonderful. It was so nice to come back from a long day of sightseeing and be able to jump right in to the water and relax with a gin and tonic. My next favorite feature was the outdoor shower which had both hot and cold water and a lovely view of the yard. There is even a half bath hiding next to the washer and dryer, which came in very handy while my mom was visiting from Maui. Beds were very comfortable and fans were sufficient, as nights are comfortably cool.
Carolyn, your host, lives right above if you need anything, but leaves you to enjoy the property without intrusion.
It is about a mile down the hill to the best surfing beaches on the island and a large supermarket. Next to the supermarket is a corral of about 10 high quality food trucks, each with it's own outdoor seating. We tried Thai, BBQ, Peruvian and Hawaiian and all were amazing. Did I mention they are BYO?
This place is a tremendous value and I recommend it wholeheartedly.
A great place , Peaceful and beautiful. Great garden pool and hot tub. Away from the traffic yet only five minutes from all the North Shore beaches. I highly recommend this rental. The owners were great and we were left alone to enjoy the space 5 stars
We had a great time staying on the North Shore. House and property were great. Loved the pool and hot tub. My kids didn't want to leave. Can't wait to stay again.
We had a short and enjoyable stay at this beautiful property. We were immediately greeted by the owner with smiles and suggestions on what to see and do on the north shore. First off the house is kept spotless and is very comfortable. The backyard of the property is an oasis in itself. I stayed here with my girlfriend and we enjoyed soaking up the sun and relaxing in the hot tub. There is a beach close by and many others are just a short drive away. We recommend going to watch the sunset at the beach it's stunning. Great private property you will not regret staying here. We look forward to our next stay in the north shore and booking this property again.
Our circumstances were not routine. We visited several properties in May 2014 looking for a winter rental. I was retiring, and Gale wanted to promptly start doing different things before we fell into a retirement rut doing more of the same thing. We lived here for about 6 weeks. We would’ve rented for the whole three months, but even in May others had already booked. Quiet, secure, very clean, and even private garage parking. Large, covered patio, big family room. Patio has a great view of the night sky - use night sky websites to spot planets and other formations. Because we were in practical terms living here vice vacationing, Gale prepared nearly all evening meals, and it was a treat to walk out on the lawn and pick a fresh tangerine for a snack. Wifi and Direct TV, etc., all worked, and we had no problem plugging in our Apple TV gadget. Pool and hot tub were clean and well maintained The outside shower with hot water and half bath was great for rinsing off sand. The local Foodland is well stocked, especially when you don’t need Costco sized stuff. We went to Mass at the mission church overlooking Wiamea Bay, good music and plenty of fellow visitors. We enjoyed our stay, and Carolyn is a delight to work with.
Just a five minute drive down the hill is a complete supermarket and a Coffee, Bean & Tea Leaf. Waimea Bay and Sunset beach are minutes away, home to some of the worlds best surf in the winter, and beautiful white sand beaches year around. Shark's cove and the surrounding area offers some of the best snorkeling in the islands and is a protected marine sanctuary. Summer time is perfect for scuba diving and kayaking. Watching the turtles, looking for shells and enjoying the sunsets are year round activities to be enjoyed. Many restaurants offering a variety of cuisines along with a variety of shops and art galleries are just a 15 minute drive away in historic Haleiwa town. Golf and tennis are also a 15 minute drive away at Turtle Bay.
Other Activities: shopping, kayaking, basketball, wildlife viewing, surfing, sailing, flying, golfing, hiking, mountain climbing, bicycle riding, motocross, kite surfing, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving
