Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, 3 Bath, Sleeps up to 6 Adults and 4 Children

This stunning semi-secluded villa in quiet Tankah Beach near Soliman Bay. It has a dramatic and unique open air floor plan, with a center palapa roof, and a stunning rock wall in the living area that drops right into the stunning outdoor pool! There are three adjoining private lockable air conditioned bedroom suites, all similar. The 3 suites are spacious and simple, yet offer ocean/beach views, seating areas, a/c, ceiling fans, en suite bathrooms and closets, and, a safe.

The value rate: This house is in need of some surface maintenance, so is certainly not for everyone - there is peeling paint, chipped tiles, rusty metal, weathered palapas, stained concrete, and missing pool tiles etc. If you are open to turn a blind eye, you will find you can rent this private beach villa with a pool and staff, for the price of a condo! It is an incredible value for those who are not particular. This villa is all about location, location, location..... The photos are all recent, taken in 2017.

The open Caribbean facing, fully equipped kitchen has a microwave and all the other appliances a guest will need. The architecture and views from this home are awe inspiring. This villa comes with 2 kayaks.

Casa De Ensueno Tankah Beach: Casa de Ensueno guests can feel connected to the world outside while enjoying the creature comforts of a resort like vacation rental beach villa. This is classic Riviera Maya! A coral sand beach, cool ocean breezes, and the turquoise ocean against a blue sky as far as you can see. Coral rubble on the edges of the beach keep the traffic low in front of the house. The bay in front of the house is coral filled and fabulous for snorkeling.

The main level of Casa Ensueno includes the open air circular living area with large built in sofa and raised kitchen and dining areas, and the pool starts in the living room! The cushions are vinyl since it is an open air setting. Each of Casa Ensuenos’ spacious air conditioned bedrooms are enclosed areas, constructed of conventional block and concrete, and have their own bathrooms and terrace. The bedroom suites are designed for privacy and security. Think of this house as an open air lobby with 3 private hotel room suites attached. Families with small children need to know the pool is open, and the bedrooms are not attached to each other, but ironically, most of our guests are families with small children.

Living and Bedrooms: Also on the main level, with access from the central living area is a large master suite. This main level bedroom suite is large and equipped with everything you might need including a open tiled bath, walk in closet and private patio area facing the pool. There are two single futon chairs which can easily be moved to other rooms as well, or are great for kids to sleep on.

On the second level are two identical large bedroom suites. All bedrooms are air conditioned and have private bath. Each of the three bedrooms have been designed to create privacy from the open air living spaces. The bedrooms are simply furnished with king beds, one single futon and have beautiful views of the Caribbean and Tankah Bay.

Tankah Bay has a security gate, and the staff live on site here, so they are there for the guest's needs. They can be hired to cook a meal - always a client favorite experience. There are a couple restaurants on Tankah Bay, a small market for sundries, and a cenote a few lots away.

About Lisa, Toni, Sibley, Michelle & Lenora

The owner's family built this house out of their family's passion to Mexico.

Lisa, Toni, Sibley, Michelle & Lenora purchased this villa in 1989

Why Lisa, Toni, Sibley, Michelle & Lenora chose Mexico

As one of the first owners to choose a lot on this bay, they have one of the best locations for the beach, bay, airflow and views! Due to the needed maintenance, if you can overlook it, you will get the best value on any villa in the area.

What makes this villa unique

The open air concept of the living area is dramatic, especially with the 2 story palapa roof - all designed by a local architect. There is nothing like it!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you all so much for assisting my party of 6 with one of the most wonderful vacations we have taken in a long time. The house was beautiful and it was everything we imagined it would be. The caretakers were very helpful and considerate of our privacy, we appreciated their daily assistance very much. Tankah bay provided excellent beach combing, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking - and some very beautiful sunrises. We were never bored:-)

We will definitely be returning for another wonderful stay at Casa de Ensueno.

We had a great time!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I rented the property for a week. It's located on a roped off road that is monitored by a guard which was nice. It is within walking distance from Blue Sky restaurant which has good guacamole and mango margaritas. They also have wood fired pizza but we forgot to try it! You can also walk to Casa Cenote however we heard there was an alligator the day we were going to try snorkeling so we passed. It's fun just to stand there and watch people come in and out. There is a little grocery store across from the cenote that had homemade tortillas, chips, sunscreen, hats, and ice and was very reasonable. The house itself definitely needs work however that is all noted in the description. It's just a rustic beach house! We still had fun in the pool even though it was missing numerous tiles. It was still clean and cool and refreshing during the day. We even left a couple of pool floaties for future guests. I recommend having Armando and his wife cook the pollo in the pit for you. It was the best chicken I have ever had! They also made some creamed vegetables that were amazing! The wi-fi worked great! It only went out a little on the day we were departing. It's cool to walk through the front door and see the ocean and the pool and have the daily breeze. If you are afraid of critters, I don't know if I would recommend this place. We were visited by a bat, scorpion, a stray dog, lizards and some roaches. Didn't seem to bother us much. We still had a fantastic time!! Plus you pretty much have your own beach with kayaks (bring some water shoes). The beach is pretty protected from the reef so the water was generally always very calm. So much to do in this area!

Amazing Experience in Ultimate Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

This was my second time staying here, and I was thrilled that this time they had perfectly working wi-fi. The main thing about the house is that if you just hang out in the open air living room under the palapa you cannot resist become as relaxed as you have ever been in your life. If you want to go out and do stuff, there's a cenote 2 minutes walk away, and a 5 minute drive will take you to Tulum and or Tulum beach, which is great for playing the surf. This house looks out on the turquoise waters of Tankah bay, you really could not ask for a better view. The bay is very shallow and so it is good for swimming for exercise, but if you want to snorkel you have to walk around to the edge of the bay were you get to the reefs. The reefs protect the bay from strong surf, which is why the water in front of the house is almost always tranquil. Although there are homes nearby, you have what is almost a private beach, which is awesome. At night, under a full moon, to have your own private beach to lie out on and gaze at the starts is incredible. The kitchen is well equipped and you can cook for yourself, or Mariel will cook something for you if you want. There's a nice restaurant, Blue Sky, that's 2 min walk away, as another alternative. One main piece of advice is to get water shoes early on, you can find them in town or at the Chedraui, the local equivalent of a Walmart. Since my size was hard to get, I just used a really old pair of low-cut hiking shoes, they were perfect. That's because the first 10 or 15 feet into the water there can be a fair amount of stones and pebbles, so if you want to walk straight into the ocean its better to have something on your feet. Even Crocs would probably work. Or you could go to Blue Sky and walk out on their pier, and go snorkeling from there. One of my favorite things here is that a short squall will appear out of nowhere and rain for 20 minutes and then half an hour later the sky will be blue again. The sound of the palms whooshing in the wind with the tropical downpour is so beautiful you don't want it to stop. I had one little downpour at dawn one day, just enough to raise a rainbow. The only hard part about this place is leaving it and going home, I could always stay longer. A magical spot. There are some little details with the house, but from experience I know that beach houses are always in a state of perpetual rebuilding, the salt corrosion is always wearing away at things, but it's still in great condition.

Wonderful beachfront vacation

  • 5 of 5

We spent 10 days at Casa de Ensueno on a family vacation (3 adults and 3 young teenagers) and it was wonderful. I agree with the other reviews that state that the house is a bit “rustic” and is in need of some cosmetic improvement, but it was fantastic nonetheless (and the caretaker was busy working on it every day)

Some specifics:

The beachfront location was spectacular. I enjoyed my coffee every morning in a lounge chair on the beach watching the sunrise over the Gulf of Mexico. Doesn’t get much better than that.

The house was private without being totally secluded. A beach bar (great margaritas and chips with salsa and guacamole), a great restaurant (Blue Sky) and a cenote were all within a 5 minute walk, and I felt safe walking/ jogging by myself in the area.

The location was convenient - Tulum was 20 minutes south and Akumal 20 minutes north.

The caretakers were wonderful. They were attentive without being intrusive, and we had them cook dinner for us one night - it was delicious.

The open air living room and kitchen is amazing and unique, but unfortunately it does come with the big negative of being outdoors in the evening - the bugs. Thankfully the bedrooms were spacious and provided plenty of room for hanging out when we needed to be “inside”. We also came prepared with plenty of bug spray, so this was never really a problem for us.

Overall, it was a great vacation.

Great holiday!!!

  • 5 of 5

We have been 15 days in the Casa de Ensueno with the whole family, and it has been a truly wonderful time.

After having visited other areas, I think this was the best, for privacy, tranquility and security.

The maintenance was perfectly attended to by Armando and Mariela, both with the daily cleaning and helping to find solutions to improve our stay; there was a toddler with us and so Armando made a gate to protect the stairs. This was perfect.

The wifi worked properly, except for one day, but the manager of the house resolved it the same day. We also had a problem with one suitcase which was also resolved.

Best of all was having a pool and the sea just in front of the house, which meant we could enjoy them at any time of day.

We had rented cars so we were able to make many trips. The location was perfect, close to everywhere and yet not crowded. In my opinion, it was the best location we could find.

It has been a really fantastic holiday.

Best experience, best price, best location!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from casa de Ensueno after spending a perfect week there. Never having been on a trip like this, we had specific requirements. We didn't want to be in a condo or resort, no neighbors right on top of us, away from the "touristy" scene (yet close enough to attractions and activities), and wanted to cook our own meals. Taxi service is readily available at all times but we rented a car. We chose mid-June to travel and we had the best weather. Where do I start...the privacy, the location (central to so many necessities and activities), the hospitality shown by Armando and Mariela, who take great care and pride in their work on the house and property, and the absolutely breathtaking view that is seen first thing in the morning and the private beach that is right outside your living room!!! This was our family's first trip to Mexico, we were excited and nervous. Our expectations were absolutely exceeded and we WILL be back again! Any place where I can take a break during breakfast prep for my family, take a dip in the pool to cool off, with the beautiful turquoise ocean as the backdrop, is truly a dream to me! With all of that being said, I must add that the cosmetic stuff is all honestly disclosed by the owners and managers, and the description fair. And none of it changed how wonderful it was. Honestly, the feel ended up being slightly rustic. But even that is pushing it, as all the amenities you would need are available, if maybe a little weathered. However, the pics on the site are out of date and this matters nothing to me, but may be a point of contention for other guests. Along with outdated pics, some info about amenities are in need of updating, as well. Just to make things easier for anyone who might not be sure of what isn't updated on the site, I will list them:

Master suite tub is out of commission

No TV's

Only one kitchenette available in upstairs rooms (the site lists both available)

Very fickle wifi

And I will say again, NONE of this had an impact on the enjoyment we experienced, because this place is amazing. Just think it should be available info to others.

Caribbean Fantasy, the company handling the property booking, is excellent and extremely informative. Loved every interaction with all the people I spoke with. This was truly a dream vacation for our family and we are coming back next year, without a doubt!

Owner's Response: What a fabulous review - thank you! We agree, this villa is all about location, location, location! We try hard to make sure the guests can turn a blind eye to the secondary things with upkeep needed (peeping paint, missing or chipped tiles, old palapas, no frills like TV etc). Almost 100% of our guests love their stay and plan on returning! And, the new manager is making great headway on taking care of things which need it! We always get wonderful comments on Armando and Mariela - so thank you too for those. They make the house a home. We'll take a look at the photos on the site and the amenities - It has probably been years since we've reviewed them. We'll also look into the 2nd kitchenette - was not aware it was not operable - most people never use them, so that is likely why. Hurry back - if you book your return trip before July 1, you will save on the new tax which will we will have to start charging then.... We can't thank you enough for the helpful review! Lisa and staff at Caribbean Fantasy, Inc.

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

All the positive reviews you read about Casa de Ensueno are true! I honestly have to say I had a bit of trepidation renting a house in Mexico sight unseen, especially having never been there before. However, it ended up being a tremendous vacation. The location, the pool, the service, it was all top notch. As people have said, don't expect the spit-shine finish of a resort, but after driving around Cancun for a couple hours we realized that was definitely not what we wanted. The caretakers took care of every need, cleaning every day and obviously taking pride in their work. They cooked an amazing home cooked meal for us as well, which I highly recommend as others have.

The location of the house couldn't have been better. A 2 minute walk to the cenote and two restaurants, 10 minutes from the Tulum ruins, 20 minutes from Akumal (don't miss the turtles), and a couple hours from Chichen Itza. The road to the house was gated (roped off) 24-7 to prevent any issues.

The bay was amazing to hang out in as well. Definitely head up along the shore toward the break and go snorkeling and you'll see amazing corals and fish - the kids loved it. The bay is very protected and great to kayak in as well (kayak provided).

All in all Casa de Ensueno delivered more than as promised and resulted in a fabulous vacation for us, our two kids and the grandparents. We'll be back!
