As my Grandma (Annie) used to say “stranger things happen at sea”!

A visit to the Loire Valley in 2006 didn't see me return. Today I'm Mme Beaumont, wife to Gérald, a bilingual French wine professional, and Mum to our two gorgeous children, Augustin (9yrs) and Constance (7yrs), who is a wonderful little teacher if you wish to brush up on your French. Making our family '5' is our friendly rescue cat, Biscotte who you'll find sleeping amongst the flower beds.

We warmly welcome you to our family home where we hope you will enjoy the peace of our village setting, the regions rich history and attractions, local cuisine and diverse range of wines.

Sarah-Jane Beaumont purchased this barn in 2007

Delightful gite in Pouancay

  • 5 of 5

'Henri' (as he is known) is a clean, comfortable and well-equipped gite in the grounds of the owners' beautiful home in Pouencay. Owners Sarah-Jane and Gerald are outstandingly welcoming and helpful, and many of their guests have returned several times: we have stayed there twice, because we felt it is a special place and wanted to return for another visit. The historic town of Montreuil-Bellay is close by, with all necessary amenities and a very nice little restaurant. Saumur with its fine chateau is within easy reach, as are a number of other Loire chateaux and the historic cities of Angers and Tours. Unhesitatingly recommended.

Perfection personified

  • 5 of 5

This property is comfortable, immaculate and very well appointed. It lived up to all descriptions and photos. Sarah and Gerald provide excellent customer service and they are very knowledgable about the area. We would definitely recommend this property to others. There are lovely old towns to explore, chateaux to visit ,we especially enjoyed the Abbey at Fontevrau which is only a few miles from Pouancay .

A place to relax, unwind and to explore !!

  • 5 of 5

This is our third visit to La Grange. Sarah-Jane, Gerald and the children are as welcoming as ever, sharing their love of the area, its wines and food. (Constance aged 7 often helped with my French vocabulary!!)

The gite is well equipped and we really appreciated the new furniture in the living area. We love the situation with views over the countryside, the opportunities to relax on the patio as well as exploring the many local attractions. It is now firmly secured as part of our annual summer visit to France.

Lovely again!

  • 5 of 5

Our second visit to the Gite and it was as lovely as we remembered it last year and lovely to see that Sarah-Jane continues to add extra touches and keep things lovely. She really does take constructive comments on board and strives to continuously improve the property which is difficult as it's already excellent. Location is idyllic in a lovely quiet village but with easy access to nearby towns, villages and facilities. Property is spotlessly clean and the towels and linen good quality if you opt to take the linen pack. Sarah-Jane, Gerald, the children and Biscotte the cat make you feel very welcome and we will certainly return. Some super days out - kayaking, Angers, tank museum Saumur and numerous trips to villages and chateaux. We were also lucky to see he Tour de France on the 4th leg from Saumur to Limoges which was a thrilling experience and one to repeat in the future. Great area for cycling too - surrounded by numerous quiet roads. If you are interested in wine make sure you speak to Gerald and get some excellent recommendations. A visit to Les Tontons the family's bistro in Saumur is a must do. A bientot.

Just keeps on getting better!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 3rd stay at La Grange d'Henri and we loved it just as much as our previous visits. The welcome from Sarah-jane and the Beaumont family is second to none. The gite is spotlessly clean, very well maintained and well equipped with quality furnishings. There had been a couple of improvements since last year - new sofa and armchair in the lounge area and lovely quality bed linen and towels. Outside the patio is furnished with teak steamer chairs and there is a great little barbecue in each gite. Guests are given the option of taking their own linen this year, but we chose to hire it and it was worth the money.

The location of this site is excellent - in a quiet hamlet but within easy reach of Montreuil-Bellay, Saumur and Chinon all of which have lovely chateaux and plenty of shops and restaurants.

This area is unspoilt and offers peace and tranquility for doing as much or as little as you want. A new Centre Parcs has opened nearby but there isn't any noticeable increase in traffic as a result. We take our bikes and explore the local countryside on 2 wheels - each time we go there is something new to discover as well as old favourites to revisit.

I can't recommend La Bellevue highly enough - nor can I wait for our next visit!!

Superb

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Henri (the gite) could not have been bettered except for the weather which is no ones fault.

We were warmly welcomed by Sarah-Jane and her children, Augustin and Constance and even Biscotte the cat .

The directions to the property were spot on and our introduction to Henri and his equipment was probably better than any other we have experienced.

We have been renting gites in France for the last 15 years and this one is certainly ranked in the top three for us (maybe even number one), simply because a great deal of care and attention has been put into the decoration, equipment and cleanliness.

Never once during our stay did we feel the family which are close by in their own home intrusive, in fact quite the opposite they were on hand if needed and helpful such as booking a table for us in their bistrot Les Trontons in Saumur.

On our finally evening we and another couple staying in Annie's House (another gite) were invited to a wine tasting by Gerald (Sarah-Janes husband) in their underground tufa caves, which was a lovely evening for all of us who took part.

Sadly our week came to an end, however we will be back next year and are already looking forward to it.

THE AREA :

POUANCAY : Within our pretty village, and a convenient moments walk from La Bellevue, is the reputed seafood restaurant, the Trésor Belge. Serving lunch and dinner, also popular is their 'happy hour' where Belguim beers (en pression) can be enjoyed sat in their pretty garden. The restaurant is closed Monday & Tuesday.

ST LEGER DE MONTBRILLAIS (2kms) : a country lane takes you past troglodyte caves, vineyards, sunflower fields before arriving to St Leger de Montbrillais. The village has a post office, baker (closed Wednesday and ask for the baguette named 'la tradition'). A highly reputed butcher much favoured by ourselves (try the rillettes d’oie and be prepared to queue on a Sunday morning!), alongside a little tabac (bar).

MONTREUIL-BELLAY (8kms) : the pretty medieval town of Montreuil-Bellay boasts a magnificent fairy tale Château whose impressive wall encloses the town centre today. An abundance of flower blooms throughout spring to the early months of winter, Montreuil-Bellay is a pretty town to discover. Host to a weekly market and a monthly Brocante (flea-market) there are a number of interesting restaurants to discover, the Château to visit and a lovely picnic area, shaded by trees, set along the edge of the river Thouet which flows through the town… while eating your baguettes the ducks will pay you a visit hoping for some crumbs!

SAUMUR (25kms) : twined with Warwick, England and Verden, Germany. The historical town of Saumur is set along the banks of the Loire river. Host to a fabulous Saturday market Saumur is also home to the famous Cadre Noir, the National Equestrian School of the elite French Cavalry, whose remarkable horsemanship can been seen at shows between April & October. Activities, exhibitions and wine festivals are scheduled throughout the year in Saumur and in July 2016, the 4th day of the Tour de France will be departing from Saumur! Saumur’s a worthy visit, if not only to see the Cadre Noir and the impressive Château, which has been lovingly restored, but to also enjoy the beauty of this stunning river side town in the heart of the Loire Valley, France.

--------------------

PLACES TO VISIT locally and around : discover local fresh food markets. Weekend brocantes (flea-markets), and the stunning villages and towns set along the edge of the Loire river. Explore too, an exceptional Bioparc in Doué la Fontaine. Hire a kayak/canoe or take a river boat ride along the Loire river from Chinon and Saumur. Visit spectacular rose gardens en route to Cholet or potter around the historical Châteaux dominated towns of Amboise, Angers, Azay le Rideau, Brézé, Brissac-Quincé, Candes St. Martin, Chenonceau, Chinon, Fontevraud l'Abbaye, Langeais, Loches, Montsoreau, Montreuil-Bellay, Saumur, Richelieu, Tours, Ussé, Villandry - all of which make a fabulous day out !
