About Sarah-Jane Beaumont
Gérald & Sarah-Jane - we warmly welcome you to our family home to share, enjoy and experience with us all that we cherish about this beautiful and historic region of France. A visit in 2006 didn't see me return. Now, Mme Beaumont, wife to Gérald, a bilingual French wine professional and Mum to our two gorgeous children, Augustin (11yrs) and Constance (9yrs). Making our family '7' is Biscotte, our dear little rescue cat and our friendly girls, 'the French hens'. In July 2011, we opened our bar à vin/bistrot, Bistrot Les Tontons, in the heart of Saumur. Five wonderful years past before pastures new beckoned. Today Gérald is Directeur d’Exploitations for two Loire Valley Châteaux; Château de Beauregard, Le Puy Notre-Dame (AOC Saumur) and Château des Noyers, Martigné-Briand (AOC Anjou).
Sarah-Jane Beaumont purchased this Barn in 2007

Return to our favourite give in the Loire Valley
This is our fifth visit to Pouancay. La famille Beaumont are as ever most welcoming to their spotless and comfortable gite. After so many visits they feel part of our extended family. During our stay we were visited by the whole family, including Biscotte the cat who loves the shade on Henri's decking and the hens! Henri provides the opportunity look over the fields and relax and read. It is also a wonderful base to explore the region and despite having many previous visits, we continue to find new interesting places to visit. Fontevraud, Saumur and Chinon chateaux and old town are a must, and the riverside villages always have a good patisserie!
We would recommend Henri or Annie's House (we have stayed in both) to any couple!
Lovely spot and charming hosts
We loved the place and its location. And our hosts could not have been more helpful, so thank you Sarah-Jane. Extremely handy spot to visit Saumur (including Cadre noir) and Chinon but at the same time off the beaten track and restful. Excellent.
Our love affair with Le Grange d’Henri continues.
Our love affair with Le Grange d’Henri continues. This great little Gite is in a very quiet location, which is a perfect retreat for us as a couple to forget daily life, to relax and to recharge our batteries. Nonetheless if you feel the urge a short drive will take you to many of the best attractions the Loire has to offer. If this is what you like then it’ll be perfect for you too.
A wonderful very well equipped gite in the Loire
A delightful gite in an excellent location. Perfect for exploring and relaxing. The property was in superb condition with everything one needed. The hosts were wonderful and enhanced our enjoyment of our stay.
We would certainly recommend this property
We have firmly established a holiday at La Bellevue in our annual calendar, and every year it seems to get better. Both gites are immaculately presented, spotlessly clean and very well equipped, with as much privacy as you want. The location is perfect - quiet and peaceful with stunning views yet close enough to everything that the Loire Valley has to offer.
What really sets this holiday apart from any other is the welcome from Sarah-Jane, Gerald and their whole family. They give 100% of themselves to ensure that their guests make the most of their stay. Their love of the region is unquestionable, and their passion can't fail to rub off on anyone who visits. The fact that they have so many repeat visitors is testament to the effort that they put in.
Highly recommended during any stay is the wine tasting tutorial with Gerald. He is passionate and incredibly knowledgeable and loves to share that with the guests in the troglodyte caves at La Bellevue. The sessions are hugely informative and enjoyable without the pressure to buy that you find in commercial degustations.
We would recommend a stay at La Bellevue without hesitation, and every year it is with a heavy heart that we drive away (our car laden with a few cases of wine recommended by Gerald!), but with a wealth of happy memories and the knowledge that we'll be back again next year.
We had a wonderful week at La Grange d'Henri in fact it was our second stay there.
The gite was just as well equipped (toilet paper, washing up liquid, DVD', etc) as we remembered and spotlessly clean.
Sarah-Jane and Gerald were as welcoming and friendly as you could hope for and more than helpful when we had car trouble even going with my husband to the garage to help with the language barrier.
Do we have any complaints- no.
Would we stay again - yes.
If you want a clean well equipped gite with helpful friendly and bilingual owners south of the Loire then look no further than La Grange d'Henri.
They also have a second gite called Annie's House so also you might want to consider that one also.
THE AREA :
POUANCAY : Within our pretty village, and a convenient moments walk from La Bellevue, is the reputed seafood restaurant, the Trésor Belge. Serving lunch and dinner, also popular is their 'happy hour' where Belguim beers (en pression) can be enjoyed sat in their pretty garden. The restaurant is closed Monday & Tuesday.
ST LEGER DE MONTBRILLAIS (2kms) : a country lane takes you past troglodyte caves, vineyards, sunflower fields before arriving to St Leger de Montbrillais. The village has a post office, baker (closed Wednesday and ask for the baguette named 'la tradition'). A highly reputed butcher much favoured by ourselves (try the rillettes d’oie and be prepared to queue on a Sunday morning!), alongside a little tabac (bar).
MONTREUIL-BELLAY (8kms) : the pretty medieval town of Montreuil-Bellay boasts a magnificent fairy tale Château whose impressive wall encloses the town centre today. An abundance of flower blooms throughout spring to the early months of winter, Montreuil-Bellay is a pretty town to discover. Host to a weekly market and a monthly Brocante (flea-market) there are a number of interesting restaurants to discover, the Château to visit and a lovely picnic area, shaded by trees, set along the edge of the river Thouet which flows through the town… while eating your baguettes the ducks will pay you a visit hoping for some crumbs!
SAUMUR (25kms) : twined with Warwick, England and Verden, Germany. The historical town of Saumur is set along the banks of the Loire river. Host to a fabulous Saturday market Saumur is also home to the famous Cadre Noir, the National Equestrian School of the elite French Cavalry, whose remarkable horsemanship can been seen at shows between April & October. Activities, exhibitions and wine festivals are scheduled throughout the year in Saumur and in July 2016, the 4th day of the Tour de France will be departing from Saumur! Saumur’s a worthy visit, if not only to see the Cadre Noir and the impressive Château, which has been lovingly restored, but to also enjoy the beauty of this stunning river side town in the heart of the Loire Valley, France.
PLACES TO VISIT locally and around : discover local fresh food markets. Weekend brocantes (flea-markets), and the stunning villages and towns set along the edge of the Loire river. Explore too, an exceptional Bioparc in Doué la Fontaine. Hire a kayak/canoe or take a river boat ride along the Loire river from Chinon and Saumur. Visit spectacular rose gardens en route to Cholet or potter around the historical Châteaux dominated towns of Amboise, Angers, Azay le Rideau, Brézé, Brissac-Quincé, Candes St. Martin, Chenonceau, Chinon, Fontevraud l'Abbaye, Langeais, Loches, Montsoreau, Montreuil-Bellay, Saumur, Richelieu, Tours, Ussé, Villandry - all of which make a fabulous day out !
