This majestic, stone, colonial mountain home was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's concept of 'Organic Architecture' featuring PURE-ORGANIC building materials from the earth: STONE and WOOD...the essence of Stonewood Lodge! Hand built from 250 tons of split and shaped natural, native stone. Finished in a 'Craftsman Style' with gorgeous, indigenous PENNSYLVANIA HARDWOODS HARVESTED FROM THE PROPERTY ITSELF...the metaphor of permanence resonates in an authentic 'Built by Owner' style reminiscent of an era gone by.
The home's interior living space was designed to bring elements of Nature indoors. Wild Black Cherry, White Sugar Maple and Red Oak were used throughout the Lodge to create custom cabinetry, unique furniture and finish every ceiling and wall...including bathrooms, mudrooms, every closet and even the garage! Not one drop of stain was used to alter the 'real' color and grain of the wood in order to reveal its beautifully deep and rich natural patina! The total effect enhances visual pleasure and aesthetics...AS IF VIEWING A WORK OF ART BY MOTHER NATURE!
This impressive resort home is truly without equal...a unique blend of opulent refinement and rustic charm designed to delight and transport you beyond the ordinary, mundane stresses of modern life. The Lodge offers top of the line KITCHEN AID appliances, CUSTOM CABINETRY and GRANITE counter tops in both kitchens and all six bathrooms! TWO 50 inch SAMSUNG PLASMA TV's! SUNDANCE OPTIMA HotTub w/stereo, waterfall & lights! BRUNSWICK Pool Table w/All BRUNSWICK Accessories! TWO BOSE Stereo Systems! S/S JENN-AIRE gas grill! Stonewood Lodge...Simply Stunning!!!
Wonderful, Wonderful weekend in a FABULOUS home! Thank you for sharing your home with us. We have made many new memories here and hope to return very soon in the future.
Jim and Sue are great hosts. Stonewood lodge is even better than the pictures show. The attention to detail is evident everywhere. The lodge is impeccably clean and beautifully decorated. Everything you will need other than food is supplied. We are whitewater kayakers and the lodge is about 45 minutes from Ohiopyle State park where you can start your trip down the lower Youghiogheny river. There is plenty to do and we only began to explore this area. Another nice thing was that there were hardly any mosquito's and we were there during a very wet summer. There was seven in our group and everyone was very happy with our vacation. I would recommend this property to anyone. It will be hare to beat this vacation. Thanks Jim and Sue
We had very high expectations based on the VRBO advertisement, but they were EXCEEDED by the accommodations, amenities, readily-available local activities, and the extra effort the owners put into assuring our vacation was excellent. Hiking, biking, canoeing, going to the lake beach, playing pool, using the hot tub, and making s'mores at the firepit were daily events. Every need was anticipated - to include even having an electric air pump for the bicycle tires. We represented 3 generations, and all of us had a great time. The recreational area on the first floor had a big-screen TV with video games and DVDs which enabled us to have two or more age-based activities going on simultaneously in the evenings after dinner, and the bedrooms were located far enough away from the later-night activities so that our three young grandsons didn't wake up. We had a wide variety of nutritional preferences, so it really helped to have two full-sized refrigerators. Even though we maxed out the allowable guest capacity, we never felt cramped. I mean it when I say that staying at the Stonewood Lodge was what made this family reunion so memorable!
Stonewood Lodge was even more beautiful in person than the pictures. JIm and Suzanne provided everything we could possibly need for a wonderful time. We enjoyed the bikes, the canoes, the hot tub, and watching the wildlife.
Our second year at Stonewood, we love this lodge! Everything is A+, from the very clean, beautiful inside accommodations, to the tranquil, calming outside ambiance. The owners take excellent care of their property and guests, the very best we've experienced. Thank you for providing such a wonderful opportunity for relaxation, fun and happy memories.
The property was very nice. We are 3 families with little children and was able to use their 6 bed rooms. There are 3 bed rooms at the center location around the kitchen/great room, and 3 more a bit further away across the study/sitting area. This is quite good that we can send the children in bed early. The grown-ups can keep talking and playing cards in the great room, without worrying about our noises waking up the children.
It's great to use the outdoor Jacuzzi in winter, which is set constantly at 103F. It's fun to sit in hot water and watch snow flakes dropping by. They have a very nice outside BBQ grill, besides the very nice kitchen filled with top quality appliances.
Remember to ask Jim the landlord to silence the chime clock. It's a very fancy standing clock that chimes every hour in the basement. I was woken up by it pretty much every hour the first night. Jim was quick to silence it the next day.
I wish we would had a chance to use the ATV or BMW motor bike, or the fire pit. Maybe next time.
Over all: very nice property, excellent upkeep, friendly landlord. A bit pricey especially in the area but well worth it.
We had 3 families in our party and everyone had a great time. The house is beautiful with all the amenities of home. Jim was very helpful and right there is there was a problem. There was a lot to do in the area even in March when we went but I think in the summer it would be wonderful. I would definitely recommend this house to all my friends.
