The Golden Slipper, Boston’s B&B “Afloat” is a traditional Catalina Chris Craft. The 40’ Yacht is located at Lewis Wharf, in the heart of historical Boston. “Absolutely incredible experience staying on the Slipper! We reserved the boat for the last weekend in August for our annual girls weekend (4 ladies), and it was perfection! Very clean, plenty of room, awesome deck to enjoy apps and wine under the sun and the moonlight, and incredible location! In the HEART of the north end on the waterfront. You cannot buy this location. We walked all over Boston (north end, Newburyport St, the Boston Common, Faneuil Hall, and walked to dinner on Hanover St). Susan (the boat manager), was so welcoming and accommodating and showed us a local market to grab anything we needed (food, wine, etc), and also picked up breakfast for us to have on the boat. Amazing overall experience, would (and will) reserve it again in a heartbeat. Boat living is THE way to live in the north end. Can't wipe the smiles off our faces from our time on this boat, and couldn't stop talking about how we would be cooped up in a hotel room otherwise....and instead here we were, on the water, on a beautiful boat, under the sun and stars. Perfect. And thank you!”
Had a nice one night stay on the Golden Slipper. Gretchen is friendly, had good communication with us and was super flexible about our uncertain arrival time. The location was super, so near to the north end with all those tasty restaurants. It was even handy to Logan, we called the Water Taxi and they picked us up from the dock (but allow 20-30 min. of 'slush time' since you have to take the free shuttle bus to actually get to the terminals.).
Staying on the boat was comfy, beds good and nice little deck on the aft for an evening cocktail and breakfast. The fridge even had a few breakfast goodies. There's a Starbucks and well stocked (but expensive) grocer within a 5 min. walk. Would definitely consider staying there again.
After six days in Salem and Nantucket for a mini, 50-year reunion with two of my wife's college friends and spouses, we and one of the college friends decided to spend a few days in Boston, as we'd never visited there before. Requiring two rooms, we found conveniently located hotels too pricey, but a neighbor of ours mentioned they stayed on a Boat & Breakfast in Boston several years ago and thought it was great. Despite being in our early 70s, we're still adventuresome and decided let's see what's available on VRBO and give it a try.
"The Golden Slipper" suited our needs perfectly with its very convenient location at Lewis Wharf, easy walking distance to the Aquarium, restaurants and to walking the Freedom Trail with it's many interesting attractions. Accommodations aboard were excellent with two staterooms -- a very comfortable king bed for my wife and I, and a queen bed stateroom for our friend. Both had their own baths -- ours was even fitted with a small bathtub/shower. The galley and lounge area were comfortable and had ample seating for six on this 40-foot vintage Chris Craft.
Gretchen, the boat owner was very helpful and accommodating in our initial and subsequent emails and had her manager Susan meet us at the wharf lobby. She helped us with our luggage and explained the workings of the galley, baths and other necessary information and requirements for our three-night stay. The refrigerator had juices, milk, breakfast bars, fruit and cream cheese for the two varieties of bagels provided. Plenty of coffee and tea were also available. We bought cereal and enjoyed breakfasts outside aft on deck chairs and a settee -- and again for cocktails in the evening. We walked to restaurants for our dinners -- all within 10-minutes or less. Great location for the North End's many Italian restaurants! We also enjoyed the Chart House and Legal Seafood.
At our ages, hauling two pieces of luggage each (enough for 9 days away) was not the easiest in getting from the wharf lobby, down to the boat and particularly into the boat, but we made the most of it and had fun doing it. All in all we enjoyed our stay aboard and recommend it. Boston is a wonderful city and "The Golden Slipper" is a great place to stay!
My husband and I happened to book this boat because all the hotels in Boston were over-priced due to the graduation season. But it ended up making our vacation very special. Regardless of our early morning arrival due to our red-eye flight, the owners, Jack and Gretchen, tried their best to welcome us as early as possible. The boat was located at a gated dock, it was very safe and was close to the Little Italy (the famous Italian neighborhood), Haymarket, and T-stations. The interior space of the boat was very cozy and adventurous as if we were kids again. We brought back great Italian food and wine to enjoy our romantic dinner at the rear deck sitting area. Due to our booking schedule, we had to stay at a Back Bay hotel on the last night in Boston. On a big couch in the hotel room, my husband sighed, "Ah, I wish we were sitting at the boat deck now." We both know that we would book the boat every time we visit Boston from now on.
