We stayed in this beautiful home the last week in Oct. and it was more than we expected. The pictures are great, but really don't do it justice. It snowed the 2nd morning we were there. Didn't eat in Marshall, but heard the Bistro was very good. The drive to Ashville is about 25 minutes. We took the train trip out of Bryson, but if I had it to do again, I probably wouldn't as the views from the deck at the house are prettier than any we saw on that trip. Joan has put much thought in the comfort of her guest.

The online pictures, while stunning, do this property no justice. It’s SO spacious. We had plenty of room for all 16 of us. All the beds slept great. The view is phenomenal. The trek up to the home was a little nerve wracking as it’s one lane (and most of the drops off either side do not look fun) and a we had oncoming vehicles a couple of times. But it all worked out and we truly enjoyed our stay at Riversky. Joan was responsive to all messages and gave us great tips. It was about 40 minutes to Biltmore.
MLK Weekend Family Vacation
Fantastic mountain home! Beautiful views for the French Broad River, and the surrounding mountains. The home was very large and spacious, yet felt very cozy at the same time. This house has all the amenities one could ask for.
Joan is a great host to her beautiful home in Marshall, NC! Her home was more than we asked for and the snowfall made the trip that much better! We had about a foot of snow leaving the gorgeous land just covered in an Xmas kind of feeling. Would absolutely recommend to friends and look forward to my next stay at Riversky!
Massive luxury cabin for extended families
Joan’s place was a breath of fresh air—literally! Perched on a high hilltop overlooking the French Broad River and surrounded by forested mountains, this deceptively large log cabin and its surrounding acreage are more likely to offer views of grazing cows or wild turkeys than humans or cars. RiverSky is at the end of a bumpy gravel road that winds and rises above the horizon, passing only a dozen or so small homes before dead-ending at a circular driveway. If necessary, I imagine you could fit 10 cars in this driveway without trouble. Accordingly, the cabin could easily house 16 people before even the moodiest teenagers would long for privacy. This place advertises five bedrooms, but that excludes the office with the pull-out coach and the sunporch with the massive lounge chair and fireplace—not to mention the sprawling den downstairs, several couches, and a few air mattresses. If your goal is to gather an extended family for a murder-free vacation, look no further.
In the spirit of objectivity, here are goals that might be better served elsewhere:
1. Quick, convenient access to town (that gravel road I mentioned has a speed limit of 15 mph max, and it’s quite long)
2. Miles of easy hiking directly from the property (much of RiverSky’s 22 acres is heavily foliage’s and not easily trekable, plus a tad steep at spots)
3. A rustic mountaintop excursion (from towel warmers to jacuzzi tubs, RiverSky doesn’t lack much in luxury)
One other note: This house is on well water, so sometimes the water has a bit of a sulphuric odor when it’s running. When it’s not running, you can’t smell it. However, if a member of your party is pregnant, autistic, or otherwise very sensitive to smells, this might bother them.
Weekend girls trip.
The house is beautiful and very comfortable. The view is even better!!
Our home is 10 minutes from downtown Marshall and 25 from Hot Springs. Madison County. Breathtaking views of the French Broad River, Mt. Piscah and Mt Mitchell are yours off our deck. You can sign up for a white water rafting trip down the French Broad at Hot Springs. If you'd rather visit all that Asheville has to offer, you can be downtown in 45 minutes.
