Log house built with large Sitka Spruce logs in 1988. Hostess is widow of recently deceased builder and resides in a small house a few feet from Sprucecot and is readily available to tenants to help with any needs that may come up. Large garden with vegetables and flowers and berries available in season. Plenty of paved parking space and circular drive. Tenants with special needs or requests can often be accommodated by hostess.
Hostess Judy requests arrival and departure times or flights so that preparations at the house are done in a timely way.

I am a long-retired nurse who came to Sitka to work with the tuberculosis epidemic.
I like to cook and do a lot of it, mostly volunteer. I like to garden but am getting too old so have young, strong, smart helpers. This year we converted the garden almost entirely to produce.
I am devoted to our fine Episcopal parish and do a good amount of volunteer work.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 1988
My husband built Sprucecot with spruce he logged nearby. He was in his eighties then but couldn't give up building so built another smaller log house in the Sprucecot compound. When we moved into the new house, we realized we had an extra house! What to do? Give Sprucecot to the Episcopal Church is what he did, giving me a life estate. Managing a vacation rental gives me something to do and keeps me out of mischief.
I would not consider living anywhere but Sitka. It is a truly special town and I love it.
Sprucecot is especially comfortable and welcoming for multi-generation families.
It works well for large dinner parties or other group functions.
It is almost Universal Design, almost barrier free. Sitka is in many ways hassle-free for wheelchairs.
My helpers and I are very picky about how our guests are treated. We will go the extra mile to make someones stay comfortable. I am reluctant to brag but I admit that no one has ever rented Sprucecot without leaving me a hostess gift.
I just cannot not say enough about our stay here at Sprucecot. I fell so in love with this rustic log home. We had 6 people in our party. As soon as I opened the door I felt like is was in my own home. Perfect everything....bedrooms, bathrooms, sleeping areas, washer, dryer etc....all the amenities you could ask for. The location was perfect. If I return to Sitka again, I will surely try to reserve this home. Our only disappointment was that we did not get to meet the owner Judy, maybe next time. Thank you so much for allowing us into your home. Us older kids 50+ loved the swing!
My 3 friends and I stayed at Judy's Sprucecot at the end of May. It was PERFECT. Beautiful giant logs gave the house a rustic charm, but with all the necessary modern amenities we could need. And our hostess Judy was a wealth of information about the town and its history.
The house is in a residential neighborhood, but only about 2 blocks from the heart of town. We were able to walk to town easily to enjoy the sights.
Thanks for a great time, Judy! We hope to be back soon!
My family and I stayed at this location for a week. We were visiting my kids and for daughters graduation. There was 6 of us and we had a grad dinner for approx 13 people. The stay was great, comfortable and close to everything! I would deffinately recommend this property. The owner Judy was a doll!! We will be back! Thanks for the great stay
