Come experience an amazing, beautifully appointed vacation home on St. John! Here you will be surrounded by truly green living with combo solar and electric power for air conditioning combining the best of both. Live well while remaining in balance with the world around you. My property overlooks Hurricane Hole and East End which is part of the National Park here on St. John. Breathtaking beauty in every direction: the Caribbean in it's full expression.
The Villa features an expansive veranda with 180-degree white water views of the ocean, a garden, and a pool. It also has air conditioning in the bedroom, a full kitchen, a gas grill, and a small library of books, board games, and a BOSE music system. In the bedroom, you'll find a beautiful queen-sized pillow-top sleigh bed, where you can fall asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach.

Catherine Perry, owner and innkeeper of A House of Open Arms. I helped to build this house from the ground up. I began in 2004 and completed the building process in 2006. I am a full time artist as well as the Innkeeper on this property and I welcome my guests at the ferry dock in Cruz Bay and offer a first evening welcome dinner. I also provide some lovely additions for your first few days: milk, homemade granola, coffee, sugar and tea. my desire is to give my guests a wonderful Island experience form snorkeling tips, to helpful places to hike or excursions to book. I want to be available to you yet not intrusive in anyway.. I have had small weddings here and special dinners for special occasions. my previous guests have loved it all!! If you have other needs please feel free to inquire and I will be happy to see if i can help you with them.To learn more: visit my website at www.houseofopenarms.com
Catherine Perry purchased this villa in 2006
I purchased this land in 2003 to begin a dream of being a working artist and Innkeeper on St. John. I loved the Easterly breezes and the commanding 180 degree view. Waking up to the sunrise and seeing the afterglow of the daily sunsets fills my heart with daily joy. I am a local potter on Island and I create unique lighting for many private homes on St. John. I also offer for sale lovely gifts for my guests to take home My guests are welcome to visit my art website of www.artofopenarms.com or visit my studio during their stay here!
A House of Open Arms is on the electric grid to provide A/C but is also solar-powered and purified rainwater-fed. It sits amid lush tropical gardens, a 180 degree view of the sea. Cooling easterly breezes come up the hill making the need for a/c very optional. Hawks, kestrels, bananaquits, Lesser Antilles bull finches, Puerto Rican bull finches, and magnificent frigates float above with the crashing sea below. This is truly a nature lover's paradise. It is made all the sweeter by the knowledge much of the electricity and all of the water used on the property are collected from the sun and sky, with minimal impact on the surrounding environment.
Very nice accommodations. Great view. Gorgeous sunrises over the east end of St John. The road to the villa is steep and rugged. Definitely requires 4WD vehicle. Very friendly and knowledgeable owner on site to help with any issues that might arise. This is a great spot if you are looking to stay on the quieter side of St John near the shops and restaurants in Coral Bay. Highly recommend staying at House of Open Arms.
Open Arms Villa is one of the places that gives a vibe to the "East End". The small pool is perfect for an afternoon refresh. Very few bugs high up on the mountain side. Been to 3 other villas on the east end and would go back to Open Arm.
Well, where do start. You can believe all the reviews you read. There is simply no way you could not love this place. The house is very homey and comfortable, and the views are so spectacular you will find yourself not wanting to leave. Don't worry about the property owner being there, you will never see her if you don't want to. But in our opinion if you don't get to know her you are missing out on a wonderful experience. Catherine is an absolute delight and a very caring and compassionate person. We had several wonderful visits with her. You will not be disappointed in this property,it's everything you see in the photos. Read through reviews going back years and you will not find a bad one.
Catherine’s beautiful villa surpassed our hopes and expectations; the calm, the washing of the waves on the shore below, the pool, relaxing on the terrace with its fabulous view over Coral Bay and Hurricane Hole, and all so well appointed and comfortable. She herself is extremely helpful, a very talented artist, and a darn good cook! This was our sixth visit to St John, but our first time at A House of Open Arms, and we are very happy we made the switch.
Car rental from Courtesy was just as it says on the tin; we have used them often in the past. No question you will need a 4x4, even low ratio, and Courtesy gave us a low mileage Wrangler to play with.
Other things that made our stay unforgettable; our snorkelling trip with Roberta, which Catherine had set up for us; and ginger cake from Pickles!
Our stay with Catherine at Open Arms is our absolute favorite vacation ever. From the time Catherine greeted us at the ferry to the sad departure and final feeding of the banana quits, our stay was wonderful and amazing. Catherine was the perfect host. She always had a recommendation for the best place to snorkel, a great restaurant to eat at or some other interesting tidbit about island life. She gives you all the privacy you want, but she is always ready and willing to answer any questions you may have. The welcome meal she prepared was exquisite! She is an amazing cook as well as a fantastic artist and amazingly brave and tenacious person. The views were spectacular! Watching the full moon rise over the mountain of East End was breathtaking. Two weeks of being unplugged was very refreshing and invigorating! The snorkeling was beyond description, and the water was crystal clear. The trails around the island were nicely groomed and well marked. One of the coolest thing was all the wildlife. No matter where you would run into deer, wild donkeys, free ranging goats or chickens, pigs, cows, doves, and lots of crabs. After many trips to different islands, St. John and Open Arms is our favorite spot. I can't wait to go back and visit the little piece of heaven Catherine has created and feed her bird friends again.
We love the House of Open Arms so much. We first came on our honeymoon on recommendation from a few friends who also spent their honeymoons and vacations at the House of Open Arms. To say Catherine's home is a little slice of heaven is an understatement. Three years later we have been back three times and it is the best week of our year and we spend the whole year looking forward to it. Catherine is the sweetest and kindest person. She is always able to recommend a spot to snorkel or a restaurant. She also offers as much privacy as we need to experience the seclusion that the island has to offer. Catherine's welcome dinner is possibly the best meal you will have on the island and such a delight after a long day of travel. Anyone that is looking for the most relaxing week of their life in the sun and sand should look no further. We've stayed in both the villa and cottage. Both are incredibly peaceful spaces with such thoughtful touches. We can't wait to get back!
Coral Bay is the quieter side of the Island with low key eateries and shopping and people. We are located in the perfect spot to get anywhere: East End, Southside, and Northshore beaches as well as Cruz Bay..
Fortsberg is home to the great fort of 1725 and the cannons.
There is a great book and game collection in both the villa and cottage. Visit my art studio upstairs to see work in progress or finished work for sale.
