About Bob Howard

Hello,

We are the Howards, welcome to our cabin Wa-Ta-Vu. We purchased it in July 2007. We have remodeled every room and have decorated it with pictures from local Gatlinburg artists. There are many old pictures of Gatlinburg taken in the 50's. We are constantly working on more changes to the cabin. We are do-it-yourself types and enjoy working on it. Thanks for visiting!! Bob & Carol, pictured with their daughter Sarah, son-in-law Joe, granddaughter Caroline, and their dogs, Zoe and Eleanor.

Bob Howard purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Bob Howard chose Tennessee

We hope to retire in a couple of years and will be spending much more time at the cabin.

What makes this cabin unique

The main things we enjoy at the cabin is the peace and solitude. The view is spectacular of Mount Leconte. In the winter with binoculars you can see the lodge on Mount Leconte. We also enjoy sitting in the hottub and just looking at the mountains.

wonderful time and place

  • 5 of 5

we rode our motorcycles up and had a wonderful time and the cabin was an excellent place to come back to after beautiful rides through the national forest and around the area. Very nicely outfitted and has a gorgeous view from the hot tub and deck. And yes we got to see Mr. Bear at the end of the road.

Perfect Thanksgiving

  • 5 of 5

We ventured to Gatlinburg to get a break from Washington, DC for the holiday and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. The cabin had an absolutely beautiful view, was very clean and organized (Bob has directions/explanations laid out for everything you might have questions about), and although it was located in a quiet wooded sub-division was just a short drive into downtown and the grocery store. The hot-tub was great and had a spectacular view of the National Forest. The view was something that we quickly realized most cabins don't have despite being located on the side of the mountain. Most of the other cabins were obstructed by trees but ours had a perfect sightline and offered beautiful views of the fall foliage and sunrise/sunset. We were the last guests to stay in the cabin before the big fire that ravaged the area and were beyond thrilled to hear that the cabin survived. We will surely be back again and will gladly recommend it to everyone we know.

This Place is Easy to Love!

  • 5 of 5

This is a simple yet more than adequate cabin. It is well maintained and has everything you need for an awesome stay in the Smokies. The owners are awesome folks to deal with and treat their guests as friends. There is no better value in a getaway spot that I have found anywhere in the area. Thank you for sharing your mountain home with us!

LOVE IT!!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was my first time staying at the cabin and I have to say it was a wonderful experience. The view was beautiful! Especially in the mornings and sunset. The hot tub was a wonderful thing after a day of riding motorcycles in the parkway. It is close to all the stores and grocery store. I will definitely stay here again and tell all my friends. Edwina and Randy were the best!!!!

Bob you have great workers and a beautiful home. Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us!!!!

Love ya'll. Till we meet again!!!!

A Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was our second vacation at the cabin. Like the first trip it was a getaway from the daily roar of daily living. The cabin is beautiful and very well equipped for all our needs. The view is terrific while you barbque, use the hot tub, or just sit outside. The living room has a tremendous view of the smoky mountains through its ample windows. One can relax in the whirlpool inside also. Ok, it wasn't a complete getaway and we weren't completely off the grid due to the fast wifi available. We saw one of the local bears on this trip at a distance in the woods. The cabin is very close to downtown, next to the Great Smoky Mountains Park, an hour an 10 minutes from Cherookee, and about an hour and a half from Asheville. There is plenty to see and do! Would I recommend it? Well let me say that we have reserved it for a third year for the fall leave color changing time .

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying with us again. We love repeat guest and after renting the cabin for seven years our repeat guest list is getting very large. We have had reports of lots of wildlife lately at Wa-Ta-Vu. We have had several bears and baby cub bears along with a grey fox and a large pileated woodpecker. Thanks again and glad too have you guys back next fall.

Very nice stay

  • 5 of 5

I really love Bob's cabin, and it's a big bonus to our Smoky Mountain trip. The cabin is very clean, and almost has everything we need. Most importantly, it makes us feel at home. I usually don't sleep well in the first night in a new place, but I had a very nice sleep from the first night in the cabin. Kids also love the cabin, and didn't want to leave. My older kid (10yr old) also left a thank-you note on the guest book, since he enjoyed the place so much! We will definitely recommend this cabin to my friends!
