All 3 cozy bedrooms are on the 2nd floor as is the full bath. There is a sleep sofa and a futon on the 1st floor for additional sleeping needs. A 1/2 bath with washer/dryer is on the first floor off of the open kitchen. The large 16X22 deck and private backyard are perfect for after beach barbeque's. That is, after you've rinsed off the sand in the spacious enclosed outdoor shower. Downtown Gloucester, Rt 128 and Rockports Bearskin neck are minutes away.
The location and amenities make this a perfect home away from home for families with children of all ages.
We visited this vacation home in mid April, 2008. All of us were very comfortable from the time we first opened the door. It was clean and cozy. Having a family room and a livingroom was great because those who didn't want to watch TV, could sit by the fireplace.
The layout was perfect for 4 single women. I would recommend it for families as well. The sheets and blankets were provided, along with more than enough towels for everyone. This saved a lot of space in the vehicle, so we were able to shop till we dropped.
The backyard deck provided lots of space to sit in the sun. The property was large and well maintained, so children would have a place to run around.
We originally intended to stay in Cape Cod, but it was too expensive. So we chose this location. There was a lovely beach, just a few blocks away, which was great for walks along the coast.
(By the way, we drove to Cape Cod and found it was not all it was cracked up to be.)
We were within a 30 minute drive to New Hampshire and a further 18 miles from Maine, so there was a lot to do. The location could not have been better.
Believe it or not, there was even a train close by to travel into Boston without using the car.
If you eat at the Causeway Restaurant, order one meal for two people and take it home. It's far too much for one person. The Chicken Parmesan was delicious.
As for the owners, they were very friendly and helpful. A light was left on for us, because we arrived late. A note was waiting on the counter to provide any help we might need.
We would stay in this area again, it was very peaceful and relaxing.
We couldn't have asked for a better place to spend the week. The pics do not do this place justice! The house is nicely set back from the road nestled by a wall of trees that give you a feeling of privacy and solitude. While there are houses on the other side of the trees, you don't see much of them, particularly at this time of year. The deck out back is a very pleasant place to sit and enjoy a cocktail or meal. We also had the company of the several wild turkeys that show up at dusk and then roost in the trees at night. There are also the two bunnies who don't seem to mind the turkeys or humans.
While we found the location a bit far for us to walk to the beach, particularly since the walk back is pretty much uphill, we saw several people who walked from the area to the beach. The location is very convenient to shopping areas and to get to other areas of Gloucester.
Inside the house on the main floor is very open and roomy, with a well supplied kitchen, laundry, half-bath, dining room, den, living room, and plenty of comfy places to sit. The Internet/wifi worked really well. The bedrooms, on the second floor, are roomy and pleasant with window a/c if needed. We used the master bedroom which also has a nice ceiling fan. There is plenty of dresser and shelf space to store your belongings, too. We felt very much at home! The owner couldn't have been nicer and provided all the info we needed. We would definitely look to rent this place again!
This was a great house for our weeklong stay in Gloucester! Our three year old had a blast in the large yard and it was away enough from the street that I didn't have to worry about cars. He had rocks to climb on, bunnies to chase and the 17 wild turkeys that paraded through the yard every evening at dinner time gave us tons of laughs! The house is very close to the beach but not really within walking distance for a toddler as the hill is very steep and there is lots to bring to the beach for the day. The kitchen was a good size and the grill and the patio made for great evening meals! The AC worked great so the bedrooms stayed nice and cool. The house was stocked with toys and games for all ages. Overall, a great rental!!
This beautiful home is located within a 5 minute walk of Good Harbor Beach. Several of my friends and my 3-year-old son spent a long weekend here and we could not have asked for a better place to stay. It has a sprawling back yard with large deck, complete with an outdoor shower and clothesline. The kitchen was very spacious and we were able to use the grill almost every night. The living room had a fireplace, which was perfect to use on the cool nights. The owner was very accessible and quick to answer all of our questions. I would definitely stay here again!
We rented this house for my mother's 65th birthday on Columbus Day weekend. It looks better in person than on the website and has a spacious, private yard. It is well equipped, nicely laid out and very homey. The living room and the family room are perfectly spaced for two separate activities for those who don't want to watch TV. The owners are very easy to work with. We made it work with 6 adults and 3 pre-teens, but that probably would have felt tight for more than a few days. It is an easy walk to the beach and we had several great bike rides around the area. The outdoor shower is heavenly! I would definitely recommended this place and it is a very fair deal compared to some other pricey rentals in the area.
