My husband is a 'native' Nantucketer and I am a 'washashore'. We love living on the west end of the Island.
My husband inherited this charming house from his Aunt Helen. Helen Chapel lived in the home for 40 years until her passing in the late 1980's. At the time of her passing the television show 'Wings' was being developed. The writers of the show borrowed names from the local Nantucket obituaries for the characters on the TV show. Everyone remembers pretty Helen Chapel who ran the snack counter at the airport on the sitcom Wings!
We love to walk out the back door and be at Madaket Beach in less than one minute. We hear the surf and also enjoy amazing sunsets. The bike path and shuttle bus into Town are right outside the front door.
Loved staying at Abigale. The house is very charming and such easy access to Madaket Beach, shuttle bus, market and Millies. Looking forward to returning next summer.
There aren't enough amazing things to say about Abi-Gale! Comfortable, adorable, clean and cozy! It was paradise on the beach. Also, what made it so special were the owners, they were just the nicest couple and so gracious. If you are looking to rent on Nantucket, you really don't need to look any further! The location is second to none and the sunsets are glorious. The proximity to "Millie's Restaurant" is perfect for a happy hour cocktail or a great meal. You really can't beat Abi-Gale. My husband and I will be headed back next summer!
Wow!! Having spent a number of summers on Nantucket, but never before at the beach in Madaket, I can now say I know exactly what all of the insiders have long known; Madaket IS Nantucket summertime perfection! It is exactly why people flock to the island. And "Abigale' is the most perfect location to be. Stunning sunsets, steps to the beach, and sleeping to the cool sea breezes. A traditional beach cottage, with the amenities but without the pretense, it is cheerfully decorated, comfortable, and has really comfortable beds!
We spent the days kayaking, clamming out at Esther's Point, swimming in the ocean and the harbor, taking long walks, and just relaxing on the front yard Adirondacks, watching the beachgoers walk by, and BBQ-ing the day's fresh catch. It is such an incredible atmosphere; laid back and with a pace that begs for relaxation.
And if you happen to not feel like beating down the summer traffic in town, you can either procure the evening's meal next door at the mini-Millie's Market, or just pop in to Millie's for some excellent fresh fish tacos and 'Madaket Mysteries'. Also convenient is the island bus and bike path, right out front. You needn't even bring your car.
The owners are wonderful people, and right in the neighborhood, should you need anything. They know everything there is to know about the island....a great source of local info for the tourists. (Neal even took us out fishing for a day)!!
All in all, it was probably the best week we've ever spent on Nantucket.....and that's going back quite a long time! We give this beach cottage a perfect '10' and highly recommend it to anyone looking for that authentic Nantucket beach experience!
Our first time renting a home on Nantucket and we will keep the tradition going at the Abigale! What a place! Great views! Steps to the beach! Great running paths! We will do this every summer! Sara & Justin
