EN LA MARRE is an early 19thC farmhouse on the wine estate of Baron de Charette's Chateau de Dracy - les-Couches in a peaceful rural location surrounded by forests and meadows. The property has been converted into six beautiful apartments with POOL for couples of all interests and lifestyles, unsuitable for children of any age. Pets accepted on request. CHARDONNAY is on the ground floor of the original farmhouse. All the apartments are spacious, comfortable and well-equipped, each with private patio with garden furniture and gas BBQ's. There are guests' laundry facilities, free of charge; ample free car parking, free WIFI available; plenty of sun-loungers around the pool, and a lovely herb garden in the flower-bedecked courtyard which guests are encouraged to make use of for their culinary creations. The resident owners, CHRIS and JUDITH MOSEDALE, are on hand to ensure their guests enjoy a relaxed, peaceful stay away from the pressures of everyday life.

Notes:
On arrival at En La Marre all guests are invited to a welcome drink or two at 6pm to meet the other guests and to be updated on local events, markets, general information etc. We hold a communal BBQ on Thursday evenings for those interested each couple contributes a food dish and some wine. Including your dear hosts -- anyone with a talent such as singing, playing an instrument, story or poetry telling etc is given an ideal opportunity on this occasion to entertain us all. Restaurant and wine-buying advice given, reservations gladly made.

Wonderfully quiet place

We had a great time in this old farmhouse. Chardonnay is a spacious, fully equipped apartment for two, the pool and the surroundings were really quiet and relaxing. Nice atmosphere, nice contacts with fellow residents every now and then. Judith and Chris are excellent hosts.

Owner's Response: This Dutch couple were delightful guests, interacting well with the other guests of different nationalities and backgrounds. They respected the property, leaving it in a clean, tidy state. They would be welcome back at any time.

CHARDONNAY at EN LA MARRE is 3 kms from its village of DRACY-LES-COUCHES with a friendly boulangerie, 4 kms from the small country town of COUCHES (wine appellation COUCHOIS) with all basic amenities; 30 minutes away is CHALON-SUR-SAONE with all major shopping facilities; the charming town of BEAUNE, the wine capital of Burgundy, is 40 minutes away. Between Beaune and Dijon are all the famous wine villages of MEURSAULT, POMMARD, NUITS.ST GEORGES etc. to wander through, winetasting as you go. DIJON (1.5 hours from us) is worth a day visit for its Palais des Ducs, excellent Musee des Beaux-Arts and Les Halles, a large indoor/outdoor market surrounded by cafes and restaurants, particularly colourful on market days. 20 minutes west is historic AUTUN, the former capital of France with its roman architecture and ruins and the gateway to the lakes and forests of the MORVAN NATIONAL PARK. South is CLUNY with its important ruined roman abbey and just beyond are the BEAUJOLAIS wine villages of FLEURIE, JULIENAS, POUILLY-FUISSE etc.

There is information in the apartments of other cycling and walking routes among the vineyards and hills. WATERSPORTS (sailing school , pedalo, boat, windsurf boards) are available on the lake at AUTUN by the golf range; TORCY (Le Creusot) has windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking and rowing, and the LAC DES SETTONS (Morvan Nat. Park) has all watersports, also swimming with beach facilities. FISHING is very popular and available in the many lakes, rivers and canals. Permits are required and weekly/daily ones can be bought in the 'tabacs'.
