Norma purchased this apartment in 2000
We had a great time here at your beautiful apartment. We hope to stay again at some point in the future.
Location was great - easy to get to everywhere. The apartment was perfect for my wife, my 10 year old, and me - there was plenty of space (hard to find in NYC). Rental was just as Norma described - accurate listing. Norma was very easy to deal with - excellent customer service. The fly problem previously reported was resolved and not an issue during our stay.
The only suggestion I'd make is better AC. There are two AC units which do cool the rental, but they are not powerful or robust and possibly outdated. I'd prefer if the unit could have been cooled slightly better. However, I do run a little hot. My wife and son run slightly cold naturally and weren't really bothered by this. There were fans that augmented the AC and were very useful.
Overall, I'd highly recommend this rental to anyone - location is great, owner is easy to deal with, clean and well appointed, priced well and overall a great value. I'd stay again in a heartbeat.
We have stayed in NYC many times but this was by far the best place we have ever stayed in. The apartment was absolutely beautiful, well-equipped, comfortable and a great location. We had easy access to everything in NYC but were also very happy to be in the apartment as well. Everything we needed to know was in the APP and also noted in the apartment. Norma was great and easy to communicate with. We would definitely stay here again and look forward to doing that. Thanks Norma!

My 20-year old daughter, 13 year-old son and I stayed at Norma's place for six days in July. Although we were a little disappointed that the unit was below, instead of above, ground, we had no regrets. The unit is immaculate and everything that you need seems to magically appear (laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, etc). The beds, even the roll-out, are comfortable and there's plenty of room to relax after a long, hot NYC day. We were cool and comfortable. The only downside was the patio-not really usable in July as there are many flies- but it was really too hot, anyway. You can't beat the location, either as there's a Trader Joes and Whole Foods within a few minutes' walk, along with a subway stop that leaves you near the door. The neighborhood is friendly and we felt safe.
This property is great, definitely recommended for a small family traveling to NY. Norma the host is very responsive to reservation requests etc. Would stay again without hesitation.
Only reason for minus one star is that a few touches could be improved to make it a perfect experience: the linens, towels especially, are overworn and need to be refreshed. In addition, for some reason a large group of big flies has taken up residence just outside the front door. Fly killing spray was provided, but it was not adequate to the task- the hosts should investigate a more permanent solution to this problem because it definitely detracts from what is otherwise a great little apartment in a superb location.
Just returned home reluctantly after a wonderful 10 day stay in Chelsea. Norma's lovely garden apartment was definitely one of the best things about our New York experience. The location is superb: such easy access to subway, walking distance to major attractions, theater, High Line, etc. It far exceeded our high expectations--it is much larger than it appears in photos, very updated, beautifully appointed with everything you could possibly need. The kitchen is fully equipped, you could cook in and entertain guests easily if you didn't want to take advantage of the many fun restaurants just around the corner. The bedroom is well off the living room and very quiet at night--not easy to find in NY! The bathroom had plenty of fluffy towels, great water pressure in the shower, hairdryer, was spotlessly clean as was the entire apartment. And best of all... a FULL SIZED BRAND NEW WASHER and DRYER in the unit!!! Norma was so helpful and responsive, but non-intrusive: she told me that she wanted everything to be perfect for her guests and my husband and I think that she succeeded brilliantly. Our two sons joined us for a few days, there is a pull out sofa, which was fairly typical comfort-wise as those things go, but a blow-up double mattress was available for an extra charge, and my son who slept on that said it was extremely comfortable, so that may be worth looking into. There is no doubt that any future stay in New York for us will be planned around Chelsea Charmer's availability.
We stayed in Chelsea at Norma's garden apartment four years ago and then we vowed to return. It was a welcome home that we received walking back into this charming home that is centrally located. We love staying in Chelsea and with Norma, it really is a home away from home. The apartment is spacious and well appointed, having stayed in a variety of properties around the world, I can safely say this is the best you will find. Looking forward to our next return to the "Chelsea Charm".
The location is superb with all the amenities of a neighborhood - fine restaurants, convenient shopping, dry cleaning and several pharmacies. We are less than three blocks to the heart of NY's gallery scene, a five minute walk to the newly discovered Meat Market boutique shopping district or the heart of Greenwich Village, a ten to fifteen minute walk to Times Square, the theater district, Madison Square Garden or the Empire State Building.
