IThe Baths of Agrippa (Thermae Agrippae) were in structure of ancient Rome, built by Marcus Agrippa Vipsanius, the first of the great thermae constructed in the city. In Their First form, constructed at the same time as the Pantheon and on axis with it, as a balaneion (βαλανεῖον), they were apparently a hot-air bath with a cold plunge, not unlike a sauna. With the completion of the Aqua Virgo, the aqueduct completed by Agrippa in 19 BC, the baths were supplied with water and Became regular thermae, with a large ornamental pool (Stagnum Agrippae) attached. Agrippa furnished His baths with decorations That may sono stati executed in glazed tiles and with works of art: the Apoxyomenos of Lysippus stood outside. He left the baths to the citizens of Rome at his death, 12 BC.

The Baths of Agrippa were damaged by fire in AD 80 (Cassius Dio, lxvi. 24), but were restored and enlarged; they were thronged in the times of Martial, and enlarged under Hadrian and later emperors. Sidonius Apollonaris mentions That the Baths of Agrippa were still being used in the fifth century.

In the seventh century the structure (no longer in use after the Ostrogoths cut off the Roman aqueducts in the 530s) was being mined for its building materials, but much of the Baths were still standing in the sixteenth century, When the ruins were drawn by Baldassare Peruzzi and Andrea Palladio, among others.

Love this place!

  • 5 of 5

What a great find! We saved Rome for last, and splurged on this flat based on the convenience of the location.

Lorenzo met us at the flat. Not only did he walk us through the place, but he gave us a map showing where we were, and pointers on places to visit. He was always available for any of our questions or requests- he never made us feel like a bother!

The flat is perfectly located... right down the street from the Pantheon and all sorts of delicious restaurants and gelatterias! A lot of the major sites were just a short walk away from here, saving us money (and nerves!) on taxis and buses. Random sites of ruins were just around the corner!

The flat is spacious and comfortable. The big windows allowed for good air flow. And the air conditioning unit helped a lot!

We just loved the history of the building, and the bits of ruins remaining on the outside.

We would come back just to stay here!!

Thank you, Lorenzo!

A great find in the center of Rome!

  • 5 of 5

Very centrally located, we walked to Pantheone, and Trevi fountain. Taxi stand was close by, also a mini food mart right outside entrance. Lorenzo was a most accommodating host and very friendly. The apartment was just as in the photographs and suited us perfectly!

Part of the City

  • 5 of 5

This location puts you into the heart of Rome. We could walk to the Colosseum, Forum, Palatine, the Vatican, the Pantheon and all of the museums. Tucked into a quaint street just below the Pantheon you will feel like you are part of the neighborhood, in fact, you wouldn't have to leave the block to have a great vacation.

This was our first visit to Rome. We couldn't have had a better experience, thanks to Lorenzo, who is an accommodating and gracious host, with a wealth of information about Rome.

The apartment has high ceilings and large casement windows allowing air circulation throughout it is well appointed with a pull out couch for additional guests. We were able to prepare an evening meal in the kitchen taking advantage of the local products from the many shops that were available. We even made our own fresh pasta and sauce. What a bonus after a long day of seeing everything..

If you want to be away from the tourist shuffle and in the middle of it all, this is the place for you.

Rome adventure

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is spacious and well equipped. The location is excellent and close to transportation although you are able to walk to many sites. We did experience that Saturday night was very noisy as restaurants/bar nearby. Lorenzo was extremely helpful and the food items he left at the apartment added a special touch to this booking.
