Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Chris:

Thank you so much for the rental of your house, it is beautiful, we just loved it. There was lots of snow, Lisbon even lost power for a day due to a storm, so the skiing was great. So nice to have such a cozy place to come back to. Beautiful property also. The girls loved just sledding in the yard.

All the best, Patricia

Great Gatherings!

  • 4 of 5

This historic house can accommodate large families. It’s perfect for gathering with friends and family to share time together in the spacious living areas. There are lots of interesting nooks and places to explore in the house...making it fun to think about how the house was lived in years ago. The yard is expansive and beautiful. We stayed in June and it was plush and green with a play set for kids to enjoy. It was a perfect distance from our daughter’s wedding venue at Bishop Farm. The setting was beautiful..tucked away in the woods and we can imagine it would be even more beautiful in the snowy winter!

It's an impressive older home, with loads of charm, plenty of privacy, & older home quirks!

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed staying on the property. Each suite offers plenty of privacy and the main floor has loads of charm and space for our family of 8 to enjoy. There are quirks you'd expect in older homes, but overall most things work fine. When we had a problem with the heat, the owner responded immediately, as did the oil company. That's good old NH!

I did not find VRBO as responsive as I'd expect when I had concerns prior to our arrival.

Perfect country home for a large extended family getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Hampshire House is a perfect country home for a family getaway. Our extended family of 9 had more than enough room for everyone to be doing what they loved inside and in the area. The home is comfortable, well equipped and well maintained. Our trip was in mid-November and everyone had a great time from playing pool, gathering around the huge table for great meals, putting a puzzle together, and sitting by the fires and watching football. There were lots of walks around the property and connected country roads as well as hikes to Lonesome Lake and Bridal Vale Falls. Shopping in Littleton and Lincoln were just a short distance away. We will be back without any hesitation!

Just Perfect and Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a wonderful time at this beautiful and elegant Estate in the middle of the Great North Woods! The property is well maintained as are the grounds. I had read other reviews that are very accurate "no need to even leave the house." We had family come and go as we spend 11 days here. Plenty of space and things to do. Chris was very responsive to everything and anything we needed to make our vacation exceptional. We highly recommend this property if you love the mountains (close to everything) and an elegant, spacious estate to just relax!

Run-down and Disappointing

  • 2 of 5

This house should have been lovely but it wasn't well-maintained. The only bathtub gushed water into the library, the bathrooms were small and musty and had drywall missing where someone had been looking at the pipes. The balcony was off limits because the railing and columns were rotted away. The appliances sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. The wifi was out all week, but the owner didn't return my call because he "mistook it for an 800 number". The real kicker was when the tire swing broke and the chain snapped across my daughter's face.

Eventually I spoke with the owner who was very apologetic and offered to reimburse me for a few days, but that was almost a month ago and he never answered or sent a check. We rent a different VRBO in the same area every year, and we've never had a problem before this. There are so many other beautiful homes in the area, you'd do well to keep looking.

Owner's Response: I feel this review is very misleading. I communicated with these renters on several occasions to try and work through the issues they mentioned. The Balcony on the 3rd floor was suppose to be fixed prior to their arrival. The contractor was delayed- so their comment about the balcony is correct. The balcony has since been completely re-built and looks beautiful. The bathroom leak was unexpected and was fixed right away. I did mistake their phone number for a marketing call - that is absolutely true - , but I fixed the problem as soon as I knew something was wrong. My correspondence with these renters was pleasant and productive, and they made positive comments about the house. Hence my disappointment with the review.

Annual Family Snowmobile Trip

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for allowing us to use your house we all had a fantastic time. Lovely old home, spacious, clean, well stocked and the beds were all very comfortable. The estate had a huge yard for the kids to play, snowmobile and go sledding. We enjoyed being able to access the trails from the house. Quiet secluded area yet not far from the town of Littleton. Perfect for a large family gatherings. Looking forward to returning next year.
