Overview

Sonoma County House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Experience a bit of Sonoma Wine Country history. Rose Cottage is a jewel of a house and is listed by the Sonoma County Historical Society. Rose Cottage was built in the 1920s during the California Craftsman period but it is heavily influenced by the earlier Victorian era. It was among the earliest houses built in Agua Caliente Park, a resort area where San Francisco residents could escape from the summer fog.

The original charm was left intact, but it has been modernized for comfort and convenience with central heat and A/C. For the convenience of guests needing to 'keep in touch' there is high-speed internet, with wifi. The gourmet kitchen is fully equipped with granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and a wine refrigerator. The master bath has an extra-large walk in shower, while the guest bathroom has a genuine claw-foot tub. There is a romantic fireplace in the master bedroom and french doors that lead to the private patio. We have had the pleasure of hosting over two dozen honeymooners! Period details include high ceilings, beautiful crown mouldings, board and batten walls and some of the original fir wood floors. There is flat panel TV in each bedroom; the flat panel in the main living area is connected to a Blu-ray/DVD player which is internet connected. We supply plenty of DVDs and a delightful selection of CDs, to suit every taste. If you have a NetFlix or Cinemax account you can login to watch movies just like at home.

The main living room, kitchen and dining area is open, providing an extra large space for entertaining and relaxing with family and friends. A great space for celebrating holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, or just long weekends!

Rose Cottage is just minutes from the Sonoma Plaza (3.0 miles) for shopping and dining experiences, and within walking distance of the world famous Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa. Heading North on highway 12, you will visit dozens of the best wineries California has to offer.

Should you prefer to simply relax on the secluded, peaceful rear patio, it is fully equipped with gas BBQ, dining table, chairs and loungers. There is a charming front porch to watch the sun come up while having your morning coffee. From the porch, look out over the Heritage Rose garden, with its beautiful landscaping and majestic palm trees. When you close the elegant wrought iron fence behind you, you can leave the everyday behind and suspend time for just a little while.

About Robert

My husband and I live near San Francisco and sometimes we just want to get away to some place that is quieter and slower. One of our favorite places is Sonoma. It is in the middle of wine country and moves at a much slower pace. The countryside is beautiful and the people are actually friendlier. We love older houses and when we first saw Rose Cottage we fell instantly in love with it. It has charm, character and a great setting only 3 miles from the Sonoma plaza. It is a great escape location and we love going there if only for a few days at a time.

Robert purchased this house in 2007

Why Robert chose Sonoma County

Rose Cottage is just on the edge of winery row at the South end and you can be touring great wineries in a matter of minutes. It is not right in downtown so it is quieter and more relaxing. It is only a half mile from the Sonoma Mission Inn and SPA where we like to go for a glass of wine now and then.

Great Property & Location

  • 5 of 5

We just returned home to New Jersey after spending a week at Rose Cottage in Sonoma. The property was in a great location to Sonoma Plaza and many local wineries. The house was very clean and the perfect size for 2 couples to spread out and relax. The front porch was a wonderful location to have tea in the mornings while everyone got ready to head out for whatever adventure was on the menu for that day. Relaxing on the back deck was perfect for evenings, enjoying dinner and sampling our wine purchases from our winery visits. The kitchen was well stocked, we did prepare breakfast and dinner on 2 of our days. We enjoyed many awesome meals @ the restaurants right in the Sonoma Plaza which was only about a 10 minute drive from our rental. Some of our favorites were, The girl & the fig, Harvest Moon Cafe, Cafe LaHaye and Della Santina's (we actually ate here twice). Our favorite wineries on this trip were Gundlach Bundschu, Buena Vista Winery and our all time favorite each time we visit Sonoma, St Francis (be sure to ask for Rony), he's the best there. We traveled 1 day into San Francisco, which was only about a 45 minute ride from the rental, however traffic coming back @ the end of our day was heavy and took almost double the time. We also visited Armstrong Redwoods and drove back to Sonoma along the Pacific Coast stopping at Goat Beach (beautiful views). On our last day we had a late flight so we spent a good part of it enjoying Muir Woods and a drive through Sausalito on the way to the airport. The property owner Robert was very accommodating and we would love to return!

Beautiful property. Perfect for our stay.

  • 5 of 5

Home was beautiful. Laid out very well. Lots of room for a small home. This was the perfect rental for two couples. Two bedroom, two bathroom. All of the necessities in abundance. Lots of staples and basics in the kitchen. Back deck and landscaping are very inviting and we spent lots of time there in the evenings. Same with the front porch where we spent time in the mornings. The location was perfect for our trip. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful place to stay in Sonoma

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the "Rose Cottage" in Sonoma. It was a little further from town than we anticipated, however, it worked out great for us. The Cottage itself was clean and well equipped with all the necessities for a lovely stay. The owners were very easy to work with, and very accommodating. We were able to visit both Sonoma and Napa Valleys and other surrounding towns and villages. There were many delicious restaurants nearby....and many wineries that one could have tastings and a tour..... We had a delightful long weekend with our daughter from San Francisco and were most grateful that we could include our dog in our visit. Also, the yard was fenced, which made it perfect for a dog.

Fabulous Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

My daughter lives in Sonoma and her house is too small for all the extended family. My mother, sister, fiance and I spent a week in this beautiful house. From the moment we pulled into the driveway, I knew this place was special. The roses were blooming out front and the grass was relatively green, under the circumstances. When we walked in, the welcoming entrance hall was wide and beautifully decorated. We oohed and aahed our way from one room to the next, and giggled like little kids at our incredible find. It probably took us 3 days to see everything that made the home so special. The kitchen was perfect. It had everything you would need to cook for your family. My mother's birthday took place while we there. My 3 adult children and my daughter's family decorated, cooked on the grill, baked and had a pinata. There was so much love and laughter that night, I would guess we made the neighbors envious! Every inch of the home was enjoyed, especially the back patio. Many meals were eaten out there, but the dining room table was plenty big for all of us. I did a few loads of laundry, and it was wonderful having it right there at the house. The only issue for some might be the steps to get in and out. My mom is 87, and she did fine. It's just something to consider if walking and stair climbing is problematic. I lived in Sonoma County for 15 years so I'm familiar with the area. This location is wonderful for going in any direction, many wineries are minutes away. I took my family to some of the ones that don't sell in stores, just so they could see the beautiful grounds. This trip, we went to Viansa, Imagery, Chateau St Jean, and Ledson. I always like to recommend Cline, BR Cohn, and Kunde. You really can't go wrong no matter where you go. I would really stress that you will never get to do everything you want to do, so go with as much of a plan as you can. You will whittle it down more than you would like, but the thoughts of coming back to this beautiful house in this beautiful place will have you planning your next trip on you way home. Robert was wonderful to work with, and we highly recommend Rose Cottage.

Clean and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This house was the perfect location to visit Sonoma and Napa. The kitchen is well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed sitting in the patio in the evenings playing cards. I'm not sure exactly what the reviewer Phyllis was referring to as this house was extremely clean and everything worked just fine. Robert, the owner, is very easy to work with and very nice. This house is perfect for a family or two couples.
