About Karen Priest Ritter

While vacationing in Blowing Rock, my parents fell in love with the area and decided to begin looking for a home there! They found this home, but it needed a good bit of work. The mountain view was so wonderful though, that they decided to purchase the home and begin renovations. They added an extra bedroom and full bath, put on the deck, bought a hot tub and added gas logs. They started on their landscaping projects soon thereafter and have continually added things to make the home more comfortable, while maintain its home-like feel. It was a second home for them and they decided to share it with guests who also enjoy a clean, comfortable home where they can relax and feel at home themselves! Many families come each year, making memories and spending time with their own families as they continue the tradition.

Since that time, my father has passed away and my mother is in her 80s and living in a senior community. My brother and I take care of their home and enjoy working with the families who have come for many years, as well as meeting the new guests who are visiting for the first time.

A magical time! The views from this house are amazing.

  • 5 of 5

We really loved this house. The views were spectacular. We did get a lot of snow (we were hoping for that!) and found the road down the mountain a bit heart-stopping (we don't get too much snow in Miami)! Definitely would suggest a four-wheel drive vehicle in the winter. We loved that the Appalachian Ski Resort was so close. It was perfect for beginners and intermediate skiers. Nice little skating rink and everything was very moderately priced. My family had an amazing time! Everyone there was extremely pleasant and helpful. As for the house it has very comfortable sleeping arrangements with plenty of room. The living room was perfect for watching football! Between the super comfy couch and big screen TV my husband had a hard time getting up to go anywhere!! The location of the house is great, with plenty of stores close by and not difficult to get to. Didn't get a chance to use the jacuzzi (too cold!) but happy to know it was there, the fire pit was great and we did get to use that to make smores! All in all, it was truly a perfect vacation home. My only comment to Karen is to probably include a few more towels in each bathroom. Other than that minor detail this is a five star review!!! We definitely will return. Happy New Year and may 2018 bring peace and love to all!

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your visit and you were able to see the snow!!!! Thank you for your suggestion about the placing more towels in the bathrooms--we will certainly do that right away. We will look forward to having you visit our home again in the future. Great experience

  • 4 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our Christmas stay in Blowing Rock. Karen was a gracious host--answering many questions before our arrival. ( she even sent a list of area churches that had Christmas eve services.) We had 9 people (including 3 children) --this house suited our needs. I would have given 5 stars except the master room was much colder then the rest of the house(4.5). The location wonderful--skiing, tweetsie railroad and Blue ridge Parkway. A great mountain home/retreat!

Owner's Response: We're glad you enjoyed your Christmas visit to our home and were able to visit some of our local attractions! We're sorry you were not warm enough in one of the bedrooms--we do have central heat, gas logs, and electric blankets for each bed, but it can get very cold visiting in the mountains at times. We hope you will visit with us again if you return to our area. Karen Priest Ritter

Relaxing weekend get away

  • 4 of 5

My family had a relaxing weekend together. The house was just the right size for the 8 of us. The negative wind chill all weekend gave us the perfect excuse to chill out inside. We will definitely return.

fun place

  • 5 of 5

The house was spacious and clean for 2 small families. It's located just above Appalachian Ski Mountain. Hot tub is great! House is very peaceful and the view is gorgeous. Be aware there are down pillows if anyone has allergies!

Owner's Response: We're glad that you have a good visit to our home! The hot tub is very nice while sitting outside, looking at the moon and the stars in the evening, and especially nice if it happens to be snowing! We hope you will return if you are back in our area again.

Beautiful home

  • 4 of 5

Loved our stay, only thing negative is, we weren't aware there were only one roll of used bathroom tissue and we had to go out and buy some and trash bags for our weekend stay.

Owner's Response: We are pleased that you enjoyed your visit and hope you will return if you are in our area again! When the housekeepers prepare the house for each guest they check to be sure there is toilet tissue in each of the three bathrooms, small bars of soap and liquid soap in all bathrooms, paper towels for the kitchen, and trash bags for each trash can throughout the house. Often this is an adequate supply for a weekend's visit, but not always. While we do have a starting supply of these items in place, we do not have refills available. We appreciate your feedback and will begin leaving additional supplies in place as well as updating our website to remind future guests to bring additional supplies of these items in the event they are needed.
