About Karen Priest Ritter

While vacationing in Blowing Rock, my parents fell in love with the area and decided to begin looking for a home there! They found this home, but it needed a good bit of work. The mountain view was so wonderful though, that they decided to purchase the home and begin renovations. They added an extra bedroom and full bath, put on the deck, bought a hot tub and added gas logs. They started on their landscaping projects soon thereafter and have continually added things to make the home more comfortable, while maintain its home-like feel. It was a second home for them and they decided to share it with guests who also enjoy a clean, comfortable home where they can relax and feel at home themselves! Many families come each year, making memories and spending time with their own families as they continue the tradition.

Since that time, my father has passed away and my mother is in her 80s and living in a senior community. My brother and I take care of their home and enjoy working with the families who have come for many years, as well as meeting the new guests who are visiting for the first time.

The Perfect Mountain Getaway Home!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing weekend staying at this adorable home! The floorplan was perfect for what we needed and the views were amazing. We could see the snow blowing on the ski slopes! The house was beautifully decorated and super cozy, and the floor plan was perfect for what we needed. The home has a great feel and you can tell it has been well-cared for. The deck outside is HUGE and although we didn't get in the hot tub, it's a nice feature to have! The location was perfect because we were right in the middle of Boone and Blowing Rock. The neighborhood is quaint and very safe-feeling. We will definitely be coming back! Thanks for a great weekend!

Nice place

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at your place, however were disappointed that the gas fireplace wasn't working and it was very cold the weekend we were there. In addition, we had to call to have water and chemicals added to the hot tub before we could use it. I specifically asked prior to renting if the hot tub was working, and was told yes. Otherwise, a good place to stay. Thank you

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and feedback. The hot tub was operational upon arrival, but did indeed need additional water and chemicals. Our handyman had planned to attend to this, but an emergency prevented him from doing so. I appreciate being notified about this immediately, so that we could get someone else to come within a few hours and the hot tub could be used the same evening of our guests' arrival. It is very helpful to communicate when anything is not as it should be so that we can get the situation remedied. When we were alerted about the difficulty with the gas logs, it was Saturday night (the 2nd evening of the visit) and a repairman could not arrive until Sunday morning. We did offer to have him come then, but this offer was declined. The guests who had visited the previous weekend had used them without any difficulty. The gas logs were checked afterwards though and no problem was found. The guests who visited the next weekend also used them without any difficulty. One note...the house does have central heat and electric blankets are available for all of the beds. We want our guests to be comfortable--both winter and summer! Thanks again for your feedback and letting us know about your concerns.

Just what we needed!

  • 5 of 5

The property was clean and in a great location to enjoy sitting on the deck to watch the sun rise. The playground was a great attraction for our grandchild and the ability to build a small camp fire was perfect for introducing him to roasted marshmallows, which turned out to be his favorite part of the weekend. The house is close enough to Boone for shopping, yet nestled among the trees. Thanks for providing a good place for a family get-together. We'll be back.

Weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

The location was perfect for visits to Blowing Rock and Boone. My elderly parents enjoyed the main living area on one level and the dog loved the back yard! We look forward to another visit!!

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your first trip visiting in our home! It is nice to have a master bedroom on the first floor for those with limited mobility or difficulty managing the stairs. Glad the dog enjoyed the large back yard, too! Vacations are so much more enjoyable when you can bring your pet along. Thank you for your nice review. We hope you will be able to return soon. Karen Priest Ritter

Beautiful views at a very nice price

  • 4 of 5

If you are looking for a prime location with gorgeous views of the mountains without breaking the bank then this is the house for you. It's fully equipped with everything you need in the kitchen for cooking and entertainment for everyone with wifi, flat screen televisions, and cable. The deck is large and has seating for at least 10 people. We utilized the propane grill for a cookout and although the tank ran out partway through cooking there was a full spare tank ready to swap so we were back up and running in 2 minutes. The hot tub looked inviting but we didn't get around to trying it. Be forewarned that the house is a bit outdated and could use some updates if you care about that sort of thing (but I'm sure the price would also increase if renovations happened). The living furniture is new and comfortable however. The electronic door locks were very handy for large party of 10 since we didn't need to worry about passing keys back and forth all the time if we weren't going to be together. Overall we were very satisfied with the experience and the owner Karen was courteous and prompt with all communication.

Owner's Response: We are pleased that you enjoyed your visit to our home! We love the location and the quiet, while still being close to Boone and Blowing Rock. We like being able to share our home with families who have children, or want to bring their pets, so it really is a very comfortable, lived-in kind of home. You are correct....we do try to keep the costs as low as possible for our guests, but some changes and updates are good too! We appreciate hearing from our guests and like their recommendations for things they would like to see added to the house to make it more comfortable for their next visits. If you have ideas on things that we might want to consider, just let me know. Thank you for your nice review! We look forward to having you visit again, and hopefully you will have time to enjoy the hot tub next time. Karen Priest Ritter
