About Karen Priest Ritter

While vacationing in Blowing Rock, my parents fell in love with the area and decided to begin looking for a home there! They found this home, but it needed a good bit of work. The mountain view was so wonderful though, that they decided to purchase the home and begin renovations. They added an extra bedroom and full bath, put on the deck, bought a hot tub and added gas logs. They started on their landscaping projects soon thereafter and have continually added things to make the home more comfortable, while maintain its home-like feel. It was a second home for them and they decided to share it with guests who also enjoy a clean, comfortable home where they can relax and feel at home themselves! Many families come each year, making memories and spending time with their own families as they continue the tradition.

Since that time, my father has passed away and my mother is in her 80s and living in a senior community. My brother and I take care of their home and enjoy working with the families who have come for many years, as well as meeting the new guests who are visiting for the first time.

Amazing Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 9 - 7 adults and 2 children. We were in town for a family mountain vacation to Tweetsie, Grandfather Mountain, and Linville Caverns. The house was perfect for all of us. The rooms were spacious and offered a great amount of privacy. We loved that there was a washer and dryer available for us to use, as well. After visiting Tweetsie, the two young boys had a "shoot out" on the back porch while listening to the sound of the Tweetise train. The adults enjoyed grilling, the mountain view, and just spending time relaxing on the back porch. Some of us were also able to take a quick walk around the neighborhood! We contemplated spending our vacation in a motel room but we all agreed this was a much better choice! We were able to spend time together as a family, the children were able to play together, and we all enjoyed making great memories! Loved this place!

Perfect location for visiting Tweetsie

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 10 -- 2 grandparents, 3 parents and 5 grandchildren, ages 4, 5, 7, 7, and 9. We were in town for a 2-day visit to Tweetsie. The house layout was perfect for us as we had three family units. Our older son, wife & 3 kiddos took upstairs, our younger daughter-in-law and her two the master bedroom, and the old folks got the king bedroom downstairs. Each bedroom is spacious and the three bathrooms allowed additional privacy. There are also two rollaway beds. The two-bed room upstairs has enough space between the beds than the four boys could play with their Legos in there and on the landing. The common area is a bit cozy for having children's toys underfoot. The kids loved the playground and playing on the rocks in the backyard. The adults appreciated the deck and the gorgeous views. We didn't try the hot tub. We were close enough to hear the train whistle from Tweetsie although the drive down the mountain took about 10 minutes/4 miles. We brought our own food and prepared all our meals. The kitchen provided much more than we needed in the way of equipment and had many thoughtful items included. We used the DVD but not the TV. The WiFi signal was steady. It was a great opportunity for memory making.

Fun house !

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our week at this home. It is very convenient to both Blowig Rock and Boone. The flat yard and hot tub were a big hit with our daughter. The owner was very attentive and helpful. We would definitely rent this house again.

Perfect family getaway house

  • 5 of 5

We brought the kids to snowboard for the first time and wanted a comfortable home close to the slopes, and that had a hot tub for apre`s ski recovery! This home was perfect. The kids loved having their own 'floor', taking over the upstairs bedrooms, and we enjoyed our spacious bedroom downstairs with a door straight out to said hot tub (spacious enough to fit our family of 5!). The views were spectacular; we watched the sunrise each morning and the night skiiers after the sun went down. The house is 5 minutes from the Appalachian Ski Mtn slopes, but doesn't get any of the blown snow or much light pollution from night activities there. The yard is quite large, and the deck wonderful for entertaining (in any season but winter!). With so many things to do year-round in this area, and with the house being such a great fit, and in such an ideal location, we will certainly return!

Great relaxing home !!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a place to stay in the Boone area for my daughter to graduate from ASU. We did several searches of the area and every time we kept coming back to this property. We hated to take the chance on renting a place site unseen but we took our chances. You are about 20 minutes from the campus of ASU in Boone. My family and I could not tell you how much we were IMPRESSED with the house and the owners. We have nothing bad to say about the house or the weather. It was 65+ degrees in the middle of Dec. which is very unusual. We can't say how the roads would be to get to the house because we had NO snow. The house is right next to the Appalachian Ski Resort. It was a very quiet neighborhood. We had plenty of parking. We could have gotten 5 cars in the driveway. Good size deck, plenty of room in the house. There was also a lot of kitchen dishes, utensils, and supplies to cook with. We brought things not sure what was there and we didn't need to. You can literally bring only your clothes and food and would have enough dishes to cook with. BEAUTIFUL view of the mountains. Outside fire pit, you need to bring your own wood. Play area for little children, back yard for a good game of Frisbee, or snowball fights. Jacuzzi was always ready and warm for anyone to get into it. We would recommend this house to anyone, in fact we have. Everything was really clean. If you had someone who could not get up a set of stairs, there is plenty of room for them on the main level. We would just like to thank Karen Priest Ritter and her family for sharing this beautiful home with us.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad your special graduation weekend went well! We enjoy sharing our home with other families. I'm glad to know that you found everything you needed in the kitchen. (Thanks for letting me know about the firewood....we had a small stack, but looks like it needs to be replenished.) We hope you will come back and visit us again. Karen Priest Ritter

What a Wonderful Property and Great Owners!

  • 5 of 5

We had a quick family get away with Children, Grandchildren and our Standard Triton. We wanted simple, spacious and close to Appalachian so the little ones could learn to Ice skate. What a great decision! The home was ready for us, right down to the play pen and stuffed Christmas Bear! The view was beautiful and very close to Appalachian. So after skating for four hours it was just a couple minute drive up the hill :) We will definitely return and recommend this property highly! Also, the Owner was very nice and accommodating.
