About The Owner

Wayne designed the house for his parents. It has been updated in the last 3 years. We live in Northern California but love our stay when we come to NC.

The Owner purchased this house in 1980

Why The Owner chose Newland

This home is a place to come an just say, ' Aah, this is a wonderful Shangri-La! Surrounded by trees and the clear blue sky by day and the clear sky with millions of stars at night. The lake and golf course are just minutes away and is centrally located to many areas to explore. Just to name a few is the Blue Ridge Parkway which is just 10 minutes away. Ashville, with the Biltmore House, is just over an hour away. Many waterfalls are in the vicinity and 1 hour and 30 minutes Southeast is Highlands which is a must. You can explore all the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and just north of us is the Great Smoky Mountains. We have been there in all seasons and have enjoyed the spectacular beauty of each season.

What makes this house unique

Since this is a resort community you have an Olympic size pool, several tennis courts, an 18 hole golf course that's lots of fun and trout fishing in the stream and the beautiful lake shown in the pictures. There are walking paths that are a great way to start your day and winds throughout the property. Just spend time and you will want to come back, as we do, time and again.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have stayed in your home 3 months each Summer in 2008 and 2009. We have enjoyed our stay and how nice your house has been. The golf and tennis have been delightful and the people great. It was so easy to get around to different sights. We wish we could come back this year but due to Harold's physical problems will not be able to make it. We hope your next guests will enjoy it as much as we did. Thanks again. Maybe 2011!!

Came To Our Rescue

  • 5 of 5

Our home in LLH burned and we were desperate for rental home. We read the review about Carol and Wayne's rental home. We rode by the home and were immediately impressed. We discussed our situation with the owners and they graciously rented us their home. We were extremely pleased with everything inside and outside the house. A fully equipped kitchen, plenty of linens, a washer/dryer and deck furniture. The wood burning fire place was an added bonus. Extremely quiet location, close to all activities. During our 5 months stay, our son and 2 grandchildren visited us. The love seat sofa/single beds were great for additional family members. Renting this home is definitely a must, everything about it exceeded our expectations. The owners are just such nice landlords.....

Charming vacation home with everything you need.

  • 5 of 5

My family and I planned a Christmas get together and ski vacation for the holidays. We split the group and stayed with four of us here and 8 staying near Grandfather mountain. this house was only 10 min away from the Grandfarther mountain house and Sugar Mt. was only another 10-15 min away. We went skiing on 2 separate days and snow tubing the third day. All easy access and close to the house.

On one of the rainy days days, we went to Linville Caverns and really enjoyed the tour! Very cool caves that the younger kids loved and tour docents kept us informed about their formation and history during the civil war.

We stayed for a week and made our meals often in the fully stocked kitchen. Loved that it had everything we needed. We had plenty of room on the floor in front of the TV to watch Christmas movies with the wood stove to give us that cozy feeling. We didn't need it for heat since the whole house and both bathrooms had heaters that were more than adequate.

Bedrooms and closet space was big enough to hold all our luggage and winter gear. Master bedroom had a nice dual zone electric blanket to use at night. Plenty of towels & space in the bathrooms and being able to have a nice washer and dryer for laundry just simply completed our needs. Everything was there and ready for us.

Our Hosts, were gracious and easy to talk with to coordinate our trip. They arranged contact with the keeper of the house to give us the keys and show us where everything is in the home. They filled us in on where to get groceries and find local restaurants. The Italian Restaurant (that's it's name) was just 2 min away and had great Pizza!

So, if you're looking for a vacation home that has it all and close to local attractions, I'd definitely recommend the stay here. Enjoy!
