About Isabel and Derek Harwood
We first visited Châtel with our young family in 1988 and were so impressed with the family-friendly atmosphere of the village that we bought a chalet the following year. We initially came during the ski season but soon discovered that Châtel is an ideal location for summer holidays.

Why Isabel and Derek Harwood chose Châtel
We had a chalet in another location in Châtel but the access was tricky in winter time and the parking very restrictive. We took the opportunity to have a chalet built to our own specification in a location which has very easy access, being just by the main road with the local free bus service just 2 minutes from our door.
What makes this Chalet unique
The chalet is south facing, so has great light as well as excellent views - sunrise over Linga in the morning and sunset over Les Cornettes de Bises in the evening. Châtel has just installed two new access chairs at the La de Vonnes and our bus route takes us straight there without needing to change buses in the town centre.

Very comfortable chalet and convenient location
The house is very comfortable. Particularly appreciated the games and books as well equipped kitchen. Direct access to slopes via public transport was great - bus stop just by chalet.
Beautiful house but not treated well by the owners
On arrival at the property we were extremely impressed. It is on a noisy main road which we weren't aware off, but it didn't ruin our stay. Inside the property is very spacious and homely and suited our needs. However, some of the property was not particularly clean and we had to make up all beds and much of the bedding was not in great condition and the beds weren't very comfortable.
As it is someone's home we were very mindful about taking care of it, and cleaned it throughout before leaving. On arriving home, the owners have refused to refund our sizeable deposit stating we didn't strip the beds or empty the bins! We did not know stripping beds (nor making them) was required, and had to leave at 4am with 4 children. It is very sad to be treated like this and would say that anyone wishing to stay there should do so as it is a great location but be prepared to battle over getting your deposit refunded.
This is the first time in 25 years of renting that I have not refunded a deposit in full. It is made clear to guests that the house must be left clean and beds stripped. These guests did no cleaning, left bins full, toilets not flushed and food waste all around the house. I withheld only what it cost to have the house cleaned for the next guests.

Châtel is in the extensive Portes du Soleil ski area with 650km of pisted runs. It links easily to the Avoriaz/Morzine ski area as well as the Swiss resorts of Torgon and Morgins. A new link has just been opened with chairs up to Super-Châtel and Linga. For non-skiers the town has a new indoor pool and spa. In summer the main activities are hill-walking and mountain biking, but the town is also well-served with tennis courts, indoor bowling and there are many tourist sites such as castles, abbey, gorge, all within easy driving distance.
Additional information about rental rates
Holidaymakers are expected to leave the chalet clean. We only rent per week - Saturday to Saturday.
