Our home is a totally restored 2 story house located in the quaint little town of Rapid City. We are just two miles south of beautiful Torch Lake (recognized as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world) and just 2 miles away from the Torch River Marine where you can access Torch Lake, Lake Skegemog, Elk Lake, and Clam Lake. Not only can you put your boat in at Torch River Marine, you can also arrange for them to store it for you during your visit. They also rent boats and canoes.
Our Township has 7 public access sites near the "sand bar" of Torch Lake for swimming. The nearby town of Alden (3 miles away) also has a boat ramp and swimming area as well as several unique shops and dining establishments. We are also just minutes away from world class golf courses, vineyards, snow skiing at Shanty Creek or Boyne, snowmobile trail heads (you can snowmobile from our front door), gaming (both live and the table kind), and a host of other activities.
We are only 20 minutes from Traverse City, home of the National Cherry Festival. Travel just a lttle farther to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore which was voted by GMA as the 'Most Beautiful Place in America'. Join us for Habor Days in nearby Elk Rapids, the National Morel Mushroom Festival in nearby Boyne City, or the National Trout Festival in Kalkaska. Don't forget about the Fall colors in late September and early October or deer season in November.
The master bedroom has a king size bed and flat panel TV. The large master bath is wheelchair accessible with a roll-in shower. The second bedroom has both a queen and full size bed. The large upstairs bedroom is perfect for kids with 2 full size beds, a futon, and TV. The kitchen and dining room has everything you need for enjoying a meal after a full day of activities. We also have a newly added spacious family room. Our large deck with gas grill is perfect if you don't want to mess up the kitchen; or, you can always walk down to the end of the street to the local ice cream & sandwich grill. Don't forget about our extra large fire pit if you want to roast marshmallows. The house is perfect for people who want to be near everything.

Really nice comfortable house
My daughter and my sister and I rented this house to be close to my brother who was having a reunion at his house so we actually spent very little time in the house. But we would have liked to. It was very clean. Very comfortable. Open space for family time and a nice yard for kids. The beds were comfortable and the AC worked great which was nice since we were there during a heat wave. Torch Lake and the surrounding towns are really special, very different from what we have in MD. I would highly recommend this house and the area for a vacation.
Cozy, Quiet & Close to EVERYTHING!!!
We loved our stay! This house is perfect for families who like to venture out into gorgeous small towns filled with cute shops and eateries during the day, but have privacy and peace around the campfire at night! The neighbor across the street is great at recommending places to eat! The ice cream shop on the corner has delicious pizza and snacks! It is a short drive to Alden and Bellaire. Alden has a free boat launch and parking for Torch Lake, two restaurants, and a park for the kiddos to play at while the moms shop! Highly recommend the Alden Bar and Grill, you can go in straight off the boat in a cover up! Wahooooo! Mrs. Pete's in Bellaire serves the best breakfast we've ever eaten and has great little shops, as well as Shorts Brewery! Warning Shorts only serves beer, no girly drinks!
If you want to venture a bit further, head to Beautiful Charlevoix! About a 45 minute drive along Torch Lake to a gorgeous marina, shops, eateries, and draw bridge into Lake Michigan which the kids watched forever. Nice walk along the channel out to Lake Michigan where you can sink your toes into the sand and water.
Only 25 minutes to Traverse City! You must, must, must spend a day at Clinch Park Beach! Rent kayaks and paddle through the downtown area....just amazing! Kayak rental is very reasonable and for those of you with little ones, it's almost impossible to tip one...very safe...but you have to do all the paddling..lol! The bike trail is fun, but a little tricky as you go through town because you HAVE to ride on the road in designated bike areas. There is a path between downtown Traverse City and Clinch Beach on Cass Street to walk or bike from one place to the other.
Mr. C's has fabulous food and nightly entertainment from local singers. Definitely share a meal....way to much food!
We have been to beaches in Lake Erie, Florida and North Carolina, and will never go back after being at West Traverse Bay and Torch Lake! The water is as clear as glass and there are no plants, mud or creatures in the swimming area! Life does not get any better than throwing anchor in 2 1/2 feet of water, and hoping out and floating while the kids swim off to deeper water or play catch. They threw a rock and raced to find it for and hour...A Rock....because it was the only thing we found on the bottom in a 100-150 foot radio us around our boat!
Thank you so much for the best trip we have ever taken,
Marc, Lisa, Jarid & Callie plus Marisa
Fantastic Vacation Rental!
What a beautiful cottage near Torch Lake! The cottage has everything you could ever need and is in immaculate condition. It's spacious, has comfortable beds, has a fantastic kitchen and outdoor grill. We loved having fires in fire pit every evening. The cottage has all the supplies you could ever need and is so comfortable. I would highly recommend this property and hope to stay there again when we return in 2 years! Thanks so much for all the great pre-trip information that you sent us to help us plan our visit!
Clean, Comfy and Convenient
This house is an excellent place to stay if you are visiting Torch Lake. It is in Rapid City which is a very small town but it is close to number of towns with more to offer including Alden, Bellaire, Elk Rapids and even Traverse City. There are public docks for boating within a few minutes. There is sufficient area around the house to store the boat at night. The house has plenty of room and modern amenities. Nice TVs with full cable (even HD reception in the living foom). A fire pit for evening fires. A roomy kitchen although the counter space is quite limited. All in all a great place to stay. If you like beer I recommend a trip up to Short's Brewing up in Bellaire, excellent beers and pretty good food too. If you like cajun food go to Pearls in Elk Rapids.
Great times for the whole family!
The house is updated, clean, roomy, and has all the necessities and more. It was convenient to several boat ramps and has parking space out front for the boat. We used the fire pit nightly for smores and dogs! The large yard was great for frisbee and horseshoes. It was great to have the convenience store and ice cream shop at the end of the street, and Freedom park 2 blocks away for fishing in the creek or playing at the playground, and the full size grocery just 5 minutes away. It was an easy drive to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, and several lakes, but best of all just minutes from Torch Lake. Brought and used our bikes a ton, will rent kayaks next time...and there will be a next time!
Great property, close to Torch Lake, big value
This renovated home was very cozy, a value in price, had everything qe needed (even bottled water!) and they rented to us by the day. That was big! Nothing to do/see in Rapid City (it's a one stoplight town at best) but Torch Lake and Alden were 5-8 min away. Save big - stay comfy - and enjoy the lake from this rental!
