About Sally

We are avid travelers yet one of our favorite places to be is at our Bend vacation home. There is so much to do in Bend, especially if you enjoy outdoor recreation. We cross country ski (our knees don't allow downhill), fish, hike, bike and play tennis (walking distance to community college courts). As music lovers we enjoy the free outdoor summer concerts and the special concerts and events too. There is always something happening in Bend - Balloons Over Bend in June, nearby rodeos and quilt show, a wonderful community 4th of July, arts festivals... you name it. To top it off the weather is normally sunny!! Though we don't golf, there are some of the best courses in the nation right in the area.

Sally purchased this house in 2002

Why Sally chose Bend

We knew we wanted to be in sunny central Oregon, but started our search in some of the resorts and the small town of Sisters. But the center of activities and the great variety of restaurants drew us to Bend proper and then to the popular west side. We were lucky to find property with views of mountains in 2 directions and backing to wild and natural scrub, which is owned by the Central Oregon Community College - but will likely never be developed (straight from the college president).

What makes this house unique

Besides everything noted above the summer also is a great time to visit the water slide and play area at the city owned Juniper Swim and Recreation Center. There is a year round outdoor 50 m pool (covered in the winter) and a 25 m indoor and also a indoor swing and children's pool for year-round use. Rock climbing at nearby Smith Rocks State Park is very popular as is boating at some of the many lakes in the area. The biking magazines name Bend as one of the top US locations, both for street and especially an extensive mountain bike network. Don't forget kayaking or floating the Deschutes.

Guestbook comments from the owner

As written in guest book: "Thanks for sharing your home with us, though there is so much to do here we hardly spent any time at the house. What struck us the most about the house is how quiet it is - absolutely peaceful. For extremely busy people, this was the most excellent part of our adventure!

Quiet, Clean & Peaceful - JUST like home!!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely a quiet, clean and peaceful home! The neighborhood is near the college but it's very safe and quiet. We were in town for our son's 'destination' wedding and Juniper Jewel was only 4 minutes from Aspen Hall! Just as quiet at night as our rural home is!

Since we were hosting the rehearsal dinner and we weren't catering it in to the hall, I needed the kitchen for prep work. This home is by far the best 'well equipped kitchen' we've ever stayed in. Sally even has funnels to fill iced tea jugs! AMAZING and very much appreciated. The furniture is clean and very comfortable. We watched the opening of the Olympics and the following days' events on their large flat screen TV.

Sally also had everything one would need in the bathrooms; much more offered here than any other home we've stayed in. In fact, it's so well stocked, we thought that Sally and Jim were going to come stay just after we left! Yes! It's THAT well stocked with essentials!

We highly recommend this home to anyone wanting a quiet, rest-filled get away. FYI: It is not ADA accessible. Stairs lead to the entrances from the garage and to the front door, which wasn't a problem for us. The garage will accommodate 2, small cars or one mid sized pick up/suv. Worked well for our needs!

Thank you, Jim and Sally, for being such gracious 'hosts' for our son's 'wedding weekend'!

Felt like home, but better!

  • 5 of 5

The home owners thought of everything! Usually when staying in a rental there are always important things lacking, which means a quick stop at the store to purchase those things you have a million of at home and can't live without. This trip was the exception, this home had every single thing we needed and things we didn't even realize we would need! They even included photos in their description of what they keep in the cupboards, how thoughtful!

The home was comfortable, cozy and clean. The location was perfect for us as we were there to tour COCC. The home is on a hillside and has beautiful views from the front porch and living room windows. There were 4 of us and there was plenty of room. Definitely found a favorite and will be back!

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

House was wonderful, perfect for two couples. Loved having the open area behind the house. Sitting outside on the deck was such a treat.

The only negative were the mattresses; I think they may need to be replaced soon. Other than that, it was great.

Owner's Response: Thanks for letting us know about the mattresses. I waited to reply to get opinions from the last 4 renters plus try them out ourselves. They are pillow-top and it may be some people just like firmer. If we get any other similar feedback they will be changed.
