About the property

New to the holiday rental market

Petit Coin is a charming one bedroom cottage situated in the small hamlet of L'Ecurie on the edge of the pretty village of Bonnes which is on the River Dronne and the Charente/Dordogne border. Within walking distance, Bonnes has amenities including a restaurant and a boulangerie. More extensive facilities can be found in nearby Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France) including a range of shops, restaurants, Sunday market and river beach.

Petit Coin has been completely renovated in recent years but retains all the charm of a French stone cottage. To the first floor is a spacious bedroom with exposed roof timbers, and a shower room; on the ground floor a sitting room and newly fitted, well equipped kitchen including fridge, cooker, dishwasher and washing machine. The cottage sits overlooking the garden and there is a covered sitting area providing shade and the perfect place to enjoy al fresco dining in peaceful surroundings.

This peaceful retreat offers the opportunity for walking, cycling and canoeing in the immediate locality and the region is well known for its markets, restaurants, food and wine. Further afield the cities and towns of Bordeaux, Bergerac, Saint Emillion, Brantome and Cognac are all approximately an hour's drive away. In addition the beautiful coastal towns of La Rochelle and Royan are wonderful places to visit for the day.

Petit Coin is perfect for couples hoping to enjoy the peace and tranquility of this lovely part of France and all the delights it has to offer.

A heavenly stay in a cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We particularly enjoyed the garden and the view while we had meals outside, in the shade. But also the sitting-room and its comfortable sofa. One can bring their own DVDs, for the choice there is rather for blockbuster-war-film-lovers. But I enjoyed finding a few books in English on the shelf. The house is very clean, spacious, comfortable (we slept very well), functional (the only thing we missed was a toaster, but the oven's grill made the deal) and decorated with delicate taste. The area and the garden were a pleasure to look at. Aubeterre, the nearest village is beautiful, with a stunning troglodyte church. The three restaurants on the main square serve good quality food and are not too expensive. Moreover the atmosphere there is very pleasant all day round. Dordogne's landscapes are more enjoyable than Charente's to my mind. I did not try the beaches along the Dronne, but saw beautiful fireworks (in Bonnes), and found many places worth sketching. As a French tourist I loved this English atmosphere under a French climate. Contrary to what was announced, there was no name written on the mail box, but we managed to find the house, and we enjoyed being welcomed with a bottle of wine, butter, bread and milk in the fridge!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your kind words. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay. I will invest in a toaster and make sure the name cannot be removed from the mailbox. I look forward to you staying again if you return to Charente Best wishes Linda

Charming place to unwind and relax

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely little place - well-equipped, tastefully furnished, clean and charming. Outside there's a fantastic space which is quiet and secluded and a lovely spot to enjoy both days and evenings. Aubeterre-sur-Dronne is within 5 min drive and the main attraction of a stay in this area. There are 4 lovely walks of up to 8km within easy reach - you can walk to Aubeterre as well!

A stay here is really all about peace and quiet in a lovely part of France.

Nice house in good location

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely big house for 2 people. The rooms are all well appointed and the outside area for eating is very handy. The bedroom is unusual, with a shoulder height beam running across its width, but the room is large so this didn't really matter. The bed was a weak feature - not a very comfortable mattress (4 inch deep foam), which probably only matters if you've already got aches and pains! It wasn't sunny during our stay, so I don't know whether the bedroom, which is in the roof space, would get very hot. I think blinds for the Velux windows would be a bonus. The house is really well placed - it's in lovely countryside but with very easy access to small shops and places of interest. Unfortunately there's still only intermittent wifi and poor phone signal - so it was hard to find out local information, etc.

Owner's Response: Dear Mary Thank you very much for your review- sorry the bed was a disappointment but haven't had problems so far. The phone signal is weak because of the location - hope it didn't spoil your stay too much. Best wishes Linda

Fantastic property in a beautiful part of France

  • 5 of 5

The property was exactly as described and set in a beautiful little hamlet. The river was close-by and we were able to walk to Bonne village or to Aubeterre. It was restful and peaceful. Bonne has a new bar/restaurant and we could enjoy a 3 course meal in the evening for approx 15 euro per head. The interior of the property was very well presented with a large (cool) lounge and a large attic bedroom. There are many lovely little villages and towns within a short drive of the accomodation and none of it seems too "touristy". We were so relaxed we even joined the library in Riberac and borrowed some English books. We would certainly return for another holiday.

Charming Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Lovely cottage, very peaceful and excellent location for walking along the river into Bonnes. Only downside was we had no internet for our three day stay. The property was lovely and clean and the bread, wine etc. in the fridge was most welcome.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely comments, I am glad you enjoyed your stay. There is now a dongle at the cottage which provides some internet access but reception is not wonderful.

Petit Coin- a gorgeous high quality cottage in a beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

What a super cottage this is. An elegant really comfortable lounge tastefully furnished. The kitchen has everything one needs for preparing meals in - which we did for four nights and as the weather was so good we were able to eat outside under the open ( covered) area with nice seats.

The bathroom is spacious and perfectly clean. The bedroom is huge with ample room for suitcases etc. We slept soundly in the well ventilated room.

It's so nice to be in such a peacefully quiet area - not overlooked by anyone and real privacy - sitting in the deck chairs in the sun until late (the cottage is a real sun trap) after driving around the area was so relaxing.

We have had a fabulous time here. If you want to get away from it all yet be within striking distance of many interesting places ( there is lots of useful information in the cottage this is the place to be. We highly recommend it!
