Property type cabin

Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, sleeps 4-5

Located in the heart of the Green Mountains on ten acres. Mountain views and remote feel, but only 20 minutes from Warren/Waitsfield area or 10 minutes to Rochester. Ski or snowshoe out the back door or cozy up and watch movies on home theater with over 200 movies. New, with all the modern amenities, but done in classic cabin style. Enjoy walking/sledding on site or hiking the nearby Long Trail, then a relaxing hot tub under the stars. 15 mins to Middlebury Snow Bowl, 25 mins to Sugarbush and Mad River Glen or 45 to Killington. Great swimming, kayaking, etc. Perfect any season!

Size limitations: The cabin is 850 sq ft. so not designed for large groups. It is one large space downstairs and two separate bedrooms above. It has a much larger feel than it's size indicates however, due to a two story loft above. There is also a generously sized mud room/entry with a heated floor to dry out ski boots and stow gear. It is therefore best suited for couples or small families who are looking for a well designed and appointed quality cabin. Anyone looking for a traditional Vermont experience will certainly enjoy the areas offerings and the warmth and intimacy provided in the cabin.

4wd Car recommendation: It is recommended that you have a 4wd car or truck in the winter.

About Jeff

Jeff is a Boston architect/contractor and resident of Concord for 20 years. He designed and restored the cabin on his own, working weekends over the course of three years. Initially, his wife was very reluctant, but once done, she is now the cabin's biggest fan. As it was designed and built for his family, Jeff has left no detail undone.

Jeff purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Jeff chose Central Vermont / Sugarbush / Mad River Valley

This area of Vermont is close enough to Boston (less than 3 hours), yet far enough to be in the heart of pristine Vermont. Jeff has been coming to this area since the mid 1970's and dreamed of having a retreat here for 35 years. Skiing is only 15-30 minutes away, and several romantic villages are nearby, giving endless options to explore and enjoy. Being on 10 acres and in Granville, it is also very private and peaceful. Often we just spend the weekend there, relaxing and basking in the cabin's great light and warmth.

What makes this cabin unique

Although the existing cabin was in sad repair, Jeff saw the potential, the views, and had the vision, tools and skills to make it happen. It is now our favorite place to be and we have established many great relationships there. It is a very active and engaging community, which we love being a part of and welcome others to share in, too!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Jeff.

We can't thank you enough for providing us with lodging that is so comfortable and with such nice amenities. After playing tourist during our stay last summer, we stuck a bit closer to home this time. Highlights were finding the swimming holes at Warren Falls and across from Newtons, Sunset Hike and local farmer's markets. Everything we ventured out to do was great fun! Also, it was wonderful to have our dog, Ginger along. Thinking we are hearty Southerners, who have endured a terrifically hot summer thus far, we did not believe we would need the A/C in Vermont, but I must confess that we broke down and used it one evening. We were so thankful for it!

We really appreciate everything!

Notes:
92'' front screen projection TV that turns the living room into a home movie theater. Over 200 DVD's as well as Direct TV carrying the major networks, sports channels, etc. Recommend four wheel drive (or AWD) vehicle in winter for local roads and driveway. We now have wireless broadband internet service at the cabin, but you'll need your own computer. There is currently AT&T cell phone service in Granville, but Verizon can be gotten 10 minutes away. Living room has a gas stove which resembles a wood stove, but is much safer and cleaner to operate.

Cozy, casual farmhouse style

  • 5 of 5

We were there 2 nights,

My reluctant 14 year old complained as we drove north to Vermont.

Today, upon leaving, she said she wanted to stay longer!

The house and big screen movies were so much fun, the hammock chair, the great restaurants nearby, THE WARREN gorge was numero uno for her- spectacular for me to photograph, and we all love the pristine, back in ye olden times inner tubing...a dinosaur could have walked by- not a trace of mankind on the river.

We had a ball...

It's not glam-living but the house is well appointed and fun for a long weekend:) area is a 10!

Lovely, relaxing place for family of four!

  • 5 of 5

We could not have asked for a better house! All the details were well attended to. The beautiful architecture made me as happy hanging out at the house as doing outdoors stuff. The home theatre, little sleeping loft and hot tub made for good family time. Our kids, 3 and 6 years old, loved swimming at Blueberry lake, picking berries and, given we had life jackets, wading around Warren swimhole while Dad and Mom took turns jumping. It's an unbelievably beautiful area. Jeff, the owner, was also a great person to work with.

A Great Escape!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just recently spent 5 days at the cabin and loved every minute! it was just such a beautiful location. The cabin had a lot of fun things that everyone in the house loved! My son loved the 'movie theater'. My daughter loved the nook sleeping area and escaping the rest of the crew. We all loved the hot tub! My favorite was sitting on the porch in the morning and enjoying the smells and quiet and my coffee! Really can't say enough wonderful things. We were planning our return as we drove home!

Dream vacation made reality

  • 5 of 5

Staying at this cabin was our dream vacation turned to reality. It was everything we hoped it would be: secluded and cozy, with an amazing hot tub and a fabulous projector for watching movies at night. The owner also keeps it stocked with some games, bug spray, popcorn, toiletry items, and all the other random essentials one might need (but forget to bring) for a weekend away. The window seat is especially nice to lounge on and read books, or just to watch the trees sway in the wind.

The whole area is beautiful, as well. It was fun to take the short walking trail on the property, and we greatly enjoyed hiking at the nearby Texas Falls, and driving to and from local restaurants through the green woods and fields. Every night we enjoyed mountain sunsets through the tree line.

There’s no central AC, and it was very warm one of the nights we were there, but the fan in the living room was generally adequate for keeping us cool. The master bedroom does have an AC unit in the window, which was helpful that night. Restaurants in the area seemed a bit expensive to us, and next time we would purchase more of our own food and eat more meals at the cabin. The kitchen is well-stocked and easy to work in.

Lord willing, we will definitely return again! A huge thank you to Jeff and his family for renting this beautiful place to others so we can enjoy it—we had an absolutely wonderful time!

Perfect couples getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a really nice time at this cabin. The at home movie theater and hot tub was just the best. Even though we had rain our entire stay, we really enjoyed this quiet cabin tucked away in the mountains. We would definitely return!
