Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, sleeps 4-5

Located in the heart of the Green Mountains on ten acres. Mountain views and remote feel, but only 20 minutes from Warren/Waitsfield area or 10 minutes to Rochester. Ski or snowshoe out the back door or cozy up and watch movies on home theater with over 200 movies. New, with all the modern amenities, but done in classic cabin style. Enjoy walking/sledding on site or hiking the nearby Long Trail, then a relaxing hot tub under the stars. 15 mins to Middlebury Snow Bowl, 25 mins to Sugarbush and Mad River Glen or 45 to Killington. Great swimming, kayaking, etc. Perfect any season!

Size limitations: The cabin is 850 sq ft. so not designed for large groups. It is one large space downstairs and two separate bedrooms above. It has a much larger feel than it's size indicates however, due to a two story loft above. There is also a generously sized mud room/entry with a heated floor to dry out ski boots and stow gear. It is therefore best suited for couples or small families who are looking for a well designed and appointed quality cabin. Anyone looking for a traditional Vermont experience will certainly enjoy the areas offerings and the warmth and intimacy provided in the cabin.

4wd Car recommendation: It is recommended that you have a 4wd car or truck in the winter.

About Jeff

Jeff is a Boston architect/contractor and resident of Concord for 20 years. He designed and restored the cabin on his own, working weekends over the course of three years. Initially, his wife was very reluctant, but once done, she is now the cabin's biggest fan. As it was designed and built for his family, Jeff has left no detail undone.

Jeff purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Jeff chose Central Vermont / Sugarbush / Mad River Valley

This area of Vermont is close enough to Boston (less than 3 hours), yet far enough to be in the heart of pristine Vermont. Jeff has been coming to this area since the mid 1970's and dreamed of having a retreat here for 35 years. Skiing is only 15-30 minutes away, and several romantic villages are nearby, giving endless options to explore and enjoy. Being on 10 acres and in Granville, it is also very private and peaceful. Often we just spend the weekend there, relaxing and basking in the cabin's great light and warmth.

What makes this cabin unique

Although the existing cabin was in sad repair, Jeff saw the potential, the views, and had the vision, tools and skills to make it happen. It is now our favorite place to be and we have established many great relationships there. It is a very active and engaging community, which we love being a part of and welcome others to share in, too!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Jeff.

We can't thank you enough for providing us with lodging that is so comfortable and with such nice amenities. After playing tourist during our stay last summer, we stuck a bit closer to home this time. Highlights were finding the swimming holes at Warren Falls and across from Newtons, Sunset Hike and local farmer's markets. Everything we ventured out to do was great fun! Also, it was wonderful to have our dog, Ginger along. Thinking we are hearty Southerners, who have endured a terrifically hot summer thus far, we did not believe we would need the A/C in Vermont, but I must confess that we broke down and used it one evening. We were so thankful for it!

We really appreciate everything!

Notes:
92'' front screen projection TV that turns the living room into a home movie theater. Over 200 DVD's as well as Direct TV carrying the major networks, sports channels, etc. Recommend four wheel drive (or AWD) vehicle in winter for local roads and driveway. We now have wireless broadband internet service at the cabin, but you'll need your own computer. There is currently AT&T cell phone service in Granville, but Verizon can be gotten 10 minutes away. Living room has a gas stove which resembles a wood stove, but is much safer and cleaner to operate.

Absolutely beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking to get back to nature, this is the place to do it! This isn't a spot for college kids looking to party. It's peaceful & quiet and the views are breathtaking! We drove from Columbus Ohio to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and got exactly what we were looking for. It was so nice to get away and the hot tub was just a bonus! No traffic, no noise, no smog! Just trees, mountains, animals, streams, lakes & ponds everywhere! And the people are so friendly! Jeff is incredibly kind and I wish they had more properties for rent around the country.

Peaceful perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying over the weekend at the cabin. I loved the privacy of the property yet it felt very safe and comfortable like being at home. The owner Jeff was very responsive with any questions and the cabin was set up perfectly for VT winter with toasty radiant floors and a gas stove! The instructions were right where you needed and everything was marked clearly, making it very easy to follow.

The cabin was clean and welcoming. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. The projection TV would have been wonderful for watching movies and the hot tub was clean and looked inviting with steam rising in the snow (I had to do work unfortunately and didn't get to enjoy those amenities, but fast wifi made working easy, too).

I would definitely rent it again. It's a lovely place.

Great Winter Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Although Vermont was experiencing a January thaw which limited our winter activities, we still had a great stay at the cabin. It was so cozy with the gas stove and the perfect size for two of us. We were able to use the snowshoes provided to explore the woods and trails behind the house, and using the hot tub every night was so relaxing. We had a little bit of snow overnight once and the driveway was plowed out before we even thought about leaving the house. Amazing! We had everything we needed in the kitchen plus more to cook meals when we didn't feel like leaving, and the projection tv was awesome! Because most of the xc ski centers had little snow and the outdoor skating rink was closed, we spent most days driving up to Stowe. The drive was very easy and the location of the cabin is quite accessible to anywhere you need/want to go. The miles/drive times seemed long to this city-dweller but the scenery and lack of traffic more than made up for that. All in all we had a fantastic stay and would definitely return to see what other seasons of the year have to offer!
