Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, sleeps 4-5

Located in the heart of the Green Mountains on ten acres. Mountain views and remote feel, but only 20 minutes from Warren/Waitsfield area or 10 minutes to Rochester. Ski or snowshoe out the back door or cozy up and watch movies on home theater with over 200 movies. New, with all the modern amenities, but done in classic cabin style. Enjoy walking/sledding on site or hiking the nearby Long Trail, then a relaxing hot tub under the stars. 15 mins to Middlebury Snow Bowl, 25 mins to Sugarbush and Mad River Glen or 45 to Killington. Great swimming, kayaking, etc. Perfect any season!

Size limitations: The cabin is 850 sq ft. so not designed for large groups. It is one large space downstairs and two separate bedrooms above. It has a much larger feel than it's size indicates however, due to a two story loft above. There is also a generously sized mud room/entry with a heated floor to dry out ski boots and stow gear. It is therefore best suited for couples or small families who are looking for a well designed and appointed quality cabin. Anyone looking for a traditional Vermont experience will certainly enjoy the areas offerings and the warmth and intimacy provided in the cabin.

4wd Car recommendation: It is recommended that you have a 4wd car or truck in the winter.

About Jeff

Jeff is a Boston architect/contractor and resident of Concord for 20 years. He designed and restored the cabin on his own, working weekends over the course of three years. Initially, his wife was very reluctant, but once done, she is now the cabin's biggest fan. As it was designed and built for his family, Jeff has left no detail undone.

Jeff purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Jeff chose Central Vermont / Sugarbush / Mad River Valley

This area of Vermont is close enough to Boston (less than 3 hours), yet far enough to be in the heart of pristine Vermont. Jeff has been coming to this area since the mid 1970's and dreamed of having a retreat here for 35 years. Skiing is only 15-30 minutes away, and several romantic villages are nearby, giving endless options to explore and enjoy. Being on 10 acres and in Granville, it is also very private and peaceful. Often we just spend the weekend there, relaxing and basking in the cabin's great light and warmth.

What makes this cabin unique

Although the existing cabin was in sad repair, Jeff saw the potential, the views, and had the vision, tools and skills to make it happen. It is now our favorite place to be and we have established many great relationships there. It is a very active and engaging community, which we love being a part of and welcome others to share in, too!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Jeff.

We can't thank you enough for providing us with lodging that is so comfortable and with such nice amenities. After playing tourist during our stay last summer, we stuck a bit closer to home this time. Highlights were finding the swimming holes at Warren Falls and across from Newtons, Sunset Hike and local farmer's markets. Everything we ventured out to do was great fun! Also, it was wonderful to have our dog, Ginger along. Thinking we are hearty Southerners, who have endured a terrifically hot summer thus far, we did not believe we would need the A/C in Vermont, but I must confess that we broke down and used it one evening. We were so thankful for it!

We really appreciate everything!

Notes:
92'' front screen projection TV that turns the living room into a home movie theater. Over 200 DVD's as well as Direct TV carrying the major networks, sports channels, etc. Recommend four wheel drive (or AWD) vehicle in winter for local roads and driveway. We now have wireless broadband internet service at the cabin, but you'll need your own computer. There is currently AT&T cell phone service in Granville, but Verizon can be gotten 10 minutes away. Living room has a gas stove which resembles a wood stove, but is much safer and cleaner to operate.

We couldn't have loved this place more -- it's cozy, comfortable and yet feels like luxury! Jeff & family are so thoughtful as hosts -- they thought of every detail!

Cute Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Warm comfortable home away from home. Well stocked with all your needs. On the outside it appears small, but because of its design and use of available space we were amazed of how much space there really is. The heated tile floors in the mudroom and downstairs bathroom along with the remote stove and the remote operated windows, were added luxuries.

Great weekend

This cabin is perfect in every way. We loved playing with the dog in the upper fields and also really enjoyed using the projector to watch movies. Also, the hot tub was phenomenal during the cool nights!

Perfect setting for Mad River Valley vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely amazing time at Jeff's house. Jeff was wonderful to work with, and extremely understanding for our horribly ridiculous mistake of getting our check-out day wrong!!! The house is so well set up for everything, and we've never seen a vacation house so well-labeled. Our favorite things were the porch swing, hot tub, trails behind the house, it's seclusion, and proximity to so many spectacular hikes and restaurants. We feel so lucky to have spent our time there, thank you, Jeff!!

Lost in the woods - and loving it!

  • 5 of 5

My wife, two boys and I just returned from a week-long vacation here in mid-August. It was fantastic. The cabin was comfortable and inviting - and once we settled in we didn't want to leave. The on-property highlights for us were the hot tub, in-house cinema, hiking trails, reading nook, and cozy gas heater. Off-property we enjoyed hitting all three recommended swimming holes... and ended up going back to Warren falls every day we were there. We also enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at the Rochester Cafe. Jeff's rental guide was an invaluable resource and we kept returning to it for suggestions, tips and directions to local destinations. Our terrier loved the visit and clearly felt right at home. We are all a bit sad to be back at home in the big city (Worcester, MA). Hoping to return again to the Granville retreat next year.
